There was news yesterday on Sky Sports that Frank de Boer’s agent said his client would not leave his post during the season, despite the reported interest from Newcastle United.
Frank de Boer – would be great choice for Newcastle
That doesn’t surprise us too much, because when Tottenham were after him earlier this year he said he wound’t consider any move until after the season ended, and he was committed to concentrating on his job at Ajax until the end of the season.
Newcastle tend to let their best players leave in mid-season, and now we have allowed Alan Pardew to move to Crystal Palace in mid-season, and we may now have trouble in recruiting a good manager to replace him.
We may have been just a little too obliging to Crystal Palace, without thinking enough of our own situation, that we will be short of an experienced manager.
De Boer has quickly become the bookmakers’ favorite to replace Alan Pardew on Tyneside, and Frank would be keen to come to the club, but not until the summer.
This is what Frank’s representative Guido Albers told Sky Sports yesterday:
“Frank will never leave Ajax during this season.” “There has been no contact to myself, or Ajax, from another club for Frank. We have received no approach at this stage.”
At this stage – those last three words are code for we are waiting for an approach from Newcastle.
And this is what Frank said last April about the potential Tottenham job he was linked with:
“Spurs have let Ajax know they will eventually talk to me at the end of the season,” “I’m going to listen and talk. Then I’ll make my feelings known.”
“After the last league game against NEC on May 3rd, I’ll think about it. I’ll talk to them and listen to what they have to say.”
“I would like to add something to a club like Brendan Rodgers did at Liverpool. I see a perspective at Tottenham Hotspur, just as Liverpool and Newcastle United sometimes are, they are sleeping giants.”
What we would like to see is for Newcastle to go after de Boer now, with a potential completion of the deal early in the summer, and until then appoint somebody in temporary charge at Newcastle, for the rest of this season.
However, that’s probably not what owner Mike Ashley is thinking – and it could also be hard to pull off.
And maybe Frank de Boer wouldn’t be willing to put up with the constraints that will be placed on him by the Newcastle owner?
Somehow we think Mike Ashley will want to appoint another British manager to the Newcastle job.
What do you think?

Comment #42Would love to see de Boer as our manager but pretty sure that it will not happen, Ashley won’t pay the money.
I check the bookies odds from time to time and some of the names in the frame genuinely worry me, people like McCoist, Pulis or Bruce would all be utterly dreadful but even worse Nigel Worthington, a terrible manager, if I’m honest I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
