Steven Taylor, Gouffran And Riviere All Start

nufc emblemburnley badge

Caretaker manager John Carver has just announced the Newcastle team for the game at home this afternoon with Burnley and Steven Taylor returns in central defense and Manu Riviere gets a start up front in place of the suspended Papiss Cisse.

Newcastle: (4-4-2): Jak Alnwick; Daryl Janmaat, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Paul Dummett; Moussa Sissoko, Cheick Tiote, Jack Colback, Yoan Gouffran; Ayoze Perez, Emmanuel Riviere
Substitutes: Freddie Woodman, Davide Santon, Massadio Haidara, Mike Williamson, Vurnon Anita, Remy Cabella, Adam Armstrong

Referee: Mike Dean (The Wirral)

It looks like it’s a 4-4-2 formation with Perez and Riviere up front so it will be interesting to see how the two of them play together – but this is an attacking formation – we need the 3 points.

And Steven Taylor has come back in with Mike Williamson dropping down to the bench which is strong – and Davide Santon is again on the bench, as is Adam Armstrong.

John Carver will have some options he can use in the second half, depending on how the game goes, but this is an attacking formation – let’s hope our defense can tighten up and Perez, Sissoko or Riviere can get the goals for us today, in the absence of Papiss Cisse.

This will be an important game and if we can get a win it should give the powers that be more time to see who’s available who could come in and take over as head coach of Newcastle.

67% think we can win this game this afternoon, so is we cannot do that it ‘s going to be a big disappointment.

Slank…it’s funny how we “hear” or translate what we see. I remember when I saw the remake of True Grits I was hearing something entirely different than what Jeff Bridges was saying.

Was quite funny when someone sub’ed it ;D

I think Riviere could come good, playing with as part of a 2 man strike force. Strange Pardew never gave him that chance before writing him off. It was either slog it out on your own, or your done.

    Like for like(ish) replacement.

Only difference is one goal scorer replaced by one who hasn’t / doesn’t score.

No better game to start scoring.

I can understand people wanting haidara to start over dummett even though both aren’t particular good IMO but why do people want Cabella to start? The lad has looked utter garbage trying the same silly step over even though he is not even quick enough to beat people.

Wait and see how they play. More about the teams style than the players. If Gouff is used very attacking then fair enough.

Also he’s just had a day to sort this.

My only problem with Haidara’s omission is that he was becoming a fairly solid, consistent, if not spectacular PL LB before being dropped because of Saylor’s return. Now he’s warming the bench and will probably fade in to the background as injuries clear up.

I hope he plays wide which is where h played the maj of games before we got him

    Catchy,

The club made it very clear in its briefing to the Newcastle Chronicle this week that it was highly satisfied with Pardew’s performance this season. If Carver is under any pressure from within the club it will for continuity, business as usual, more of the same please. He won’t be tearing up the Pardew playlist just yet.

Why aren’t our promising youngsters given their PL debuts at home against weak opposition, with the crowd spurring them on, instead of at Old Trafford and the likes?

    transfer

no, he has had the whole season so far , he takes the training sessions,
he said the other day that he thinks we were on the right track giving the fans the style of football we want to see,

this just confirms to me that the man has no clue, he lived of SBR’s legend for a long time, no he is the one calling the shots, Goofy was his only real dilemma , as he looks shot right now,
in his right position he is not a bad player, that is a box player, take him out of there and he offeres nothing to the team

Carver has really no choice but to pick the team he has.
He wants to get a result so Goofy is a safer bet than Cabella.
Haidara is just back from injury so why take the chance?
This team is quite capable of getting a result – fingers crossed they do!!
