Should Newcastle Appoint John Carver As Head Coach – Poll

Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley will have their work cut out if John Carver is not to become the head coach at Newcastle, because they will have to bring somebody in and quickly too – with almost half a season still to go.

We are still hoping this can become a good season for Newcastle – hope springs eternal.

Le Charnley is drawing up a short list of candidates for the owner to peruse when he returns from his Barbados vacation.

John Carver – Newcastle’s caretaker manager

We’d like to gauge the views of the fans about John Carver, and to be accurate we suppose the new position that’s open at Newcastle is that of head coach – rather than manager – and that in itself seems to be scaring off some candidates.

Should John Carver Be The Head Coach At Newcastle?

And while Mike and Lee are at it – they should bring in a center-back and a striker in January too – show some ambition and spend some of the money we have available at the club.

That’s an order. 😀

He needs to be given a chance. Nobody can ever prove themselves without one. He worked under wor Bobby so he must’ve learnt something.

Couple of things we learnt from the match.

    (1) Teams at the bottom of the league are not push overs. Therefore don’t expect a walk over against Leicester.

    (2) Cisse’s absence should give Riviere the opportunity to come good. He showed more than enough in the first half to justify the starting line-up again.

    (3) As much as I would like to see Armstrong succeed he isn’t ready yet. He looked lost and was anonymous, and not for the first time.

    (4) No point in being overly critical of Alnwick. He too is not ready for the big time, just like Armstrong. At least Carver had a choice on whether to bring on Armstrong but no such luxury with Alnwick.

    (5) Tiote had a bad day in total contrast to his performances against Chelsea and Everton.

    (6) Sissoko and Perez are gems. The question for Perez is whether his superb consistent performances are attracting the attention of other managers who will now mark him more closely.

    (7) Gouffran is fine as cover for Obertan or Aarons. He does a good job. Is reliable. Bit like Jonas. He will not win games however unlike Obertan and Aarons.

Pottz, cheers, I’ll check out more about Thomas Tuchel. He sounds great. Innovative forward thinking methods interest me a lot.

I wouldn’t want Carver as the main man. I’d only be OK with him having the job until the end of the season if it meant us securing an intelligent coach/manager at the end of the season on Carr’s recommendation.

I’d be happy with Carver till the end of the season if it meant waiting for the right person, my only fear though is that if Carver has us finish tenth it will be seen as job done and he’ll be given a rolling contract.

I don’t have much of an issue with Carver, although it is worth noting he has been Pardews No.2 throughout his tenure at NUFC – although, he obviously wasn’t the “king”.

Most importantly, he doesn’t really carry the credentials, other than working with Sir Bobby, which whilst beneficial, is not enough on it’s own.

To answer the question, the answer is no, pending seeing the clubs shortlist that is.

As many have said, if we are to coast the rest of this season and then go for the right man this summer, it wouldn’t be the end of the world.

Slank, Obertan win games? Hhhm. I think Goufy won more than him, even keeping us in the PL. Obertan should go with the guy who brought him in.
Since this has turned to my negative post (that’s it, I swear), Armstrong has not exactly ripped the PL apart. He should not be playing- yet. Of course, he may come good, but the same may be said of the goalie, and all of us have already dismissed him. Why are people saying give Arm time and not the goalie?

The problem with football management is that it is all about the short term and results.

A coach or manager should not be judged on one game, especially his first in charge.

Historically coaches (even good ones) tend not to become good managers. There are exceptions of course. Coaches who have become managers haven’t done it overnight. Many have experienced trial and error. Can Newcastle afford the luxury of trial and error ? I think not.

Newcastle need an experienced manager. Carver is not that.

your facts about cabaye and Ba are a little distorted , Ba was offered a new contract to stay but wanted to go,

Cabaye went on strike in the summer to try and force a move for 12 million , only to be promised that if the right offer came in in jan he could go , 12 mil went to 19 mil and he thanked the club for keeping there promise ,
he played in his beat position and out of his skin to try and get the move he wanted, and let’s face it, he and a few other senior players went to p45 to complain about the style of football they played

what’s also worth a mention is the fact that we tried to get Cabella in last Jan as cabayes replacement , it didn’t happen because of his chairman , Pardews words were , we couldn’t get him over the line, but he came in the summer , you know what he sits on the bench , and if you ask me , HBA is a better player than cabella,

all you needed to get into a P45 team was running shoes , no skill needed

Where has this Obertron love in come from, he had about six good games in three years befire spectacularly breaking down for no apparent reason. Maybe Alan will want him at Palace, or then again maybe not.

I’m thinking about (the new) Obertan this season before his injury compared with Gouffran this season after he stopped scoring goals.

You’re embarrassing your self again, these players did not leave because of Pardew, they left for more money and a chance of silverware, something we could offer with more ambition from the owner.

who ever comes in will get rid of Williamson and obertan,

Alnwick is good at punching, and ok at handling and distributing and cleaning up lose balls. Everything else he is poor. Shot stopping is poor, positioning is poor.

    You’d say that he’s a league 2 keeper level.

Carver for coach ? Depends what you want and who else will actually come to the toon – personally I’d prefer someone who can bring some solidity to our defence and some flair to our attacking play – the trouble is that it will mean using the players he has at his disposal but they can’t all be as bad as the 2nd half yesterday.

Carvers decision to sub arma for riviere was a disaster as was haidara at left wing – dummett should have moved to middle instead of Williamson coming on – riviere missed a couple of sitters but was making good runs and causing a bit if panic whereas arma is just not ready – feel for alnwick – his confidence looks shot and the back four and opposing teams know it

Because of the way Ash runs our club I have got to be honest I feel punch drunk.
I was at the match yesterday with by brother in law who supports Burnley. He was last at SJP about 9/10 years ago…..He could not believe how much the crowd/atmosphere had changed.

It’s a shame fans are just so fed up knowing this chairman has no ambition and will do EVERYTHING the cheapest way.

Still think he will promote from within and NO players will be brought in.

I also agree with what Shearer has said, Pards reward for yes man is the heads up he is flogging the club in the summer. Knowing any new consortium will bring in their own man.

    Time will tell

    On the players yesterday….

    Tiote was shocking !
Feel so sorry for Alnwick, thrown in at the deep end after a manager tells all he is not sure if he is good enough. The kid is scared stiff .

There is no way in the world young Perez will be here when/if Ash sells…..He will want his last payoff via player sales. This kid is going to be some player ! Unfortunately not for us.

    Cyprus (re previous post)

There’s no reason for MA to sell our key players even at ridiculous prices. It shouldn’t be all about making a hefty buck but about getting a more successful team.
He compounds his mistake by refusing to replace these players.
His interest in this club is purely financial – end of.

Carver totally misread the game yesterday in the second half, bringing Armstrong on for Riviere was a critical mistake because linked to that he then pushed Perez back and out wide along side Sissoko which is exactly what Pardew did against Everton and we then conceded goals in each game.
Dummitt does not have a clue about defensive work, particular y when playing LB, it was crying out for Stanton or Haidera to be brought on.

I can understand why ma would want someone cheap and not going to be demanding huge transfer funds as he has his blueprint in place but why would he want rejects to take over go out and get a top young coach looking for a big job in the pl Patrick Vieira, Paul Scholes Paul Clement frm Real Madrid, Sir les or maybe big al might take it if it was offered sincerely I duno its very depressing with the names were being linked with.
