Will This Former Superstar Become Coach At Newcastle?

There is news today in the Star that Paul Gascoigne wants a job at Newcastle as a coach.

Paul Gascoigne

Paul Gascoigne – wants a coaching job at Newcastle

This has been a potential story for a good few years, and we suppose that if Paul was hired by Newcastle maybe as an Academy coach, it could help him get his life more under control, after his many fights with alcoholism.

Maybe with Londoner Alan Pardew gone from Newcastle there will even be a new drive to get more Geordie coaches into the club?

It seems that Paul is a big fan of Peter Beardsley,  and Paul tweeted his support of  Beardsley for the new head coach position at Newcastle:

“I really would give peter Beardsley the Newcastle job his knowledge on playing players and egos are second to none a num1 Geordie xxx GAZZAX

— Paul Gascoigne (@gazza8gascoigne) December 31, 2014″

It seems that Paul may think he has a good chance to get a coaching job at Newcastle if Peter Beardsley is appointed head coach.

But that has to be a really long shot since Peter has very little coaching experience and no management experience at all.

And caretaker manager John Carver has only just elevated Peter to  first team coaching duties.

We’ve always thought it would be good for Newcastle to try to help out Paul Gascoigne and give him a coaching job with the youngsters.

We should be helping out our own, especially when they need the support.

What do you think?

Gazza needed help years ago, the leeches have left him now he has nothing to offer them. I’d be surprised if he made it through this year

Superb player, but clearly has many demons.

Has he actually coached at any level?

Definitely not. We are not a charity and he was very quick to quit on us when the opportunity arose.

Ibiza he managed in China and one other club in England I think. There were stories of turning up drunk to take training. I doubt any club would take the risk of employing him

On the debate about why players would join us, it’s simple really….the EPL is the most watched league in the world, these players wouldn’t join us if we were playing in a worse league. Every club is a stepping stone except for the 2 Spanish giants and maybe Bayern

Something is fundamentally wrong with the club when Tony Pulis would rather manage at W Brom than at our famous establishment. FACT.

I don’t think many players thought Newcastle was more or less attractive because of Pardew or Ashley.

…but the real question is could we kept some of these players longer if we had a coach that would make these players the footballer they wanted to be and had a owner with a design?

…would our owner had seen the wrongs in his way of running NUFC if we had such coach?

I mean even Ashley fit all hid wrongs most look at SOTON or even Swansea thinking “what could I have done differently”!

We are a selling club – who isn’t these days! That’s not really the problem – the problem is players want to leave and we don’t replace them.

The problem from my standpoint is I am not a Geordie and I am thinking to myself why I an even watching this crap!!! Well I didn’t up until recently.

I don’t have to be a fan – it was not put on to me by my father or because of my up bringing. I those to be a Newcastle supporter – but because of the football.

Funny thing is Gazza is the only one who says he wants the job.

Wish he could get his head sorted, what a fantastic player in his time, head and shoulders above most around him.

Most talented player England have had for a long long time a few of the current team aren’t fit to lace his boots.

The Newcastle job is a notoriously difficult one, made doubly so by Ashley’s rigid transfer policy, and inexperience, it would appear. Even if we got a guy like DeBoer, I wouldn’t put money on him succeeding, certainly not straight off the bat. Eredevise is not the EPL, and Newcastle is not Ajax, it’s pretty far removed from it. I doubt the transition will be in any way seamless, if we do decide to bring in a young continental manager. Ideal quite possibly, but in reality, probably fraught with problems, at least significant teething problems, you’d think, even if Ashley is indeed sincere about playing a better brand of football, nurturing youth and developing the club. Anyway, no time like the present, I suppose.

I think De Boer would have a Pochettino type affect on a team, he would carefully implement changes by bringing modern tactics which overall would weed out the dinosaurs. He’d bring his experience of the famous Ajax youth set up and implement changes here as well making the younger lads better prepared before they come through!!!

Jesper all good points but it still brings us back to Ashley as he was the one who appointed him and was happy to keep him on an 8 year contract.
It does not look on the face of it he was thinking I wish I had got one of those managers.

Ashleys treatment of Pardew and his willingness to accept his lot will have sent alarm bells ringing in the managerial world. My theory that Pardew was offered an eight year deal after threataning to walk was rubbished in the pub yesterday by some and not others ?

I honestly think Pardew left because he knows that the club will be sold in the summer. I think this story has legs in it, we won’t appoint a new man. It’s even more alarming that MA is happy chilling in Barbados than coming back to resolve this….which again says to me he’s coming to an end with all things toon related and will eventually take over Rangers

They where probably stupid enough to think he could repeat 5th again and expected England etc to come calling.

If that’s the case it shows how clueless the people running the club are and it underlines what it’s all about, MONEY.

Jesper…I think at the end of the day, we’re all talking about the same thing.

We want a competitive footballing team. Where you draw your reasons from is neither here nor there.

We lack an identity, other than money making.

Tequila…On the plus side, the Christmas parties would be legendary.

I think DeBoer is a product of the Ajax system, not responsible for it. I wouldn’t imagine he’s going to come over and turn us into A replica of all that, anytime soon. I think he’s far more likely to come over and do quite a bit of hand wringing and head shaking first and foremost, and that’s not even taking into consideration what he might make of Mike Ashley, or am I just struggling to find my bright side.

Surely the immediate problem is the goalkeeper. I know the defence in front of him is inept but his mistakes have cost us matches. Get a loan keeper in NOW!

You’re missing my point on Pulis I think, I really don’t want him here or Bruce, but it is worrying that WBrom seems more attractive and may have implications when trying to get a manager in.

we need a young foreign manager to take us forward and give us the playing style we deserve.

sorry but Carver is no good as a manager in fact he’s no good at coaching.

Oh and we need a keeper asap because Alnwick is sh!t, he lost us the game yesterday and we have LC and Chelsea next so I would prepare for a good hiding and a lot of goals to be conceded.

On Pulis his family home is in that part if the world already, so maybe it is a case of it being easier for his family and personal life to take the job closer.

Pulis took the WBA job because he has the finale say in transfers and also can recommended players to the board, this is the only reason he choose them over us.

Imagine Pulis taken over Newcastle transfers? we would be a Stoke and probably pick Pardew’s favourite players ( you know, the one’s that are over 6 foot tall )

Pulis would be a disaster for Newcastle and to many people judge him on the Palace performance rather than judging him on the Stoke performance.

    Just saying 🙂

I think Pardew knew he’d lost the fans and Ashley was wavering, he knew he’d never win them back with his brand of football so ran first chance he got.

If he walked he’d get nowt, just like Ashley likes. If he stayed he wasn’t going to be backed, palace was the perfect out for him. Leave with a little reputation intact, I think in a way Ashley designed everything to force him out.

Bet he didn’t expect it to happen like this though, getting 2mil off Palace.
Still can’t beleive someone’s paying for him.

This will never happen. Would love to see Gazza happy though.

On the new manager note. I seriously hope Carver doesn’t get the job. He will take us down.
I was at the game yesterday and his tactics were awful. Taking off Goofy for Hadaria and going 5-3-1-1 killed us.
His interview was also insane. He basically said they were better than us and there was nothing he could do. If he was my manager I would be well annoyed.

Nice one Gazza, but if he wants to join Beardsley as a coach, then as long as he brings a six-pack of lager and a fishing rod, there’ll be no need for coaching badges!

And (from an earlier thread), if bids are likely for Sissoko, Ashley’s reactions are gonna provide a fine example of how to attract a quality replacement for Pardew – Ashley to go for the money rather than show potential applicants that he has ambition for Newcastle United.

His obsession with making money is ruining the credibility of a once-respected football club – as far as he’s concerned, the club’s nothing more than a money generator.

It’s a pity he wouldn’t focus on improving rather than depleting an already weak squad.

The sooner Ashley sells up, hopefully to an ambitious owner with integrity, the better.

The people knocking the job back are all doing it for same reason and it’s nowt to do with Ashley.

It’s a massive challenge way out of their comfort zone, they’d 5hit themselves being under the scrutiny of Toon fans.

Bruce Pullis etc are journey men looking for the easy money and have zero ambition IMO
