There is news today in the Star that Paul Gascoigne wants a job at Newcastle as a coach.
Paul Gascoigne – wants a coaching job at Newcastle
This has been a potential story for a good few years, and we suppose that if Paul was hired by Newcastle maybe as an Academy coach, it could help him get his life more under control, after his many fights with alcoholism.
Maybe with Londoner Alan Pardew gone from Newcastle there will even be a new drive to get more Geordie coaches into the club?
It seems that Paul is a big fan of Peter Beardsley, and Paul tweeted his support of Beardsley for the new head coach position at Newcastle:
“I really would give peter Beardsley the Newcastle job his knowledge on playing players and egos are second to none a num1 Geordie xxx GAZZAX
— Paul Gascoigne (@gazza8gascoigne) December 31, 2014″
It seems that Paul may think he has a good chance to get a coaching job at Newcastle if Peter Beardsley is appointed head coach.
But that has to be a really long shot since Peter has very little coaching experience and no management experience at all.
And caretaker manager John Carver has only just elevated Peter to first team coaching duties.
We’ve always thought it would be good for Newcastle to try to help out Paul Gascoigne and give him a coaching job with the youngsters.
We should be helping out our own, especially when they need the support.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

We haven’t had a real manager for four years.

Comment #283Reme Garde has to be a realistic possibility and he’s used to working under tight financial constraints where players are bought and sold over his head, he’s French and he’s out of work so no compensation to pay out……………………………………but Curbishley is more realistic 🙁

But Ashley sells high-value assets rather than clearing the dressing room of those who don’t really add any value to the player pool.

I think our realistic options under ashley are managers like sherwood, mclaren, Bruce, Beardsley, carver. Also managers that have been out of the game for a while who would jump at the chance to manage us and be a pardew mk2. These include managers like curbishley, o’leary etc.

Comment #293Do understand why people think Steve Mclaren would walk away from a very well run club like Derby, that look like they are heading back into the Premier League to come and work at this mad house?

Comment #295I would imagine there is a chicken and egg situation at the club at the moment although I think between a rock and a hard place would be more appropriate:
Do you appoint a manager first and then buy the players to fit the philosophy / style of the new manager or do you buy the players first and tell the manager (as is often the case in Europe) to get on with what you have got ?

It would make sense for Ashley to bring in a continental manager who is used to working under the restraints that Ashley has in place………………………there I go again, mention sense and Ashley in the same damn sentence

Comment #297there’s no value in the players that would be left new owners would have to just right them off to get the club as you ashley will take out anything he can to increase his bottom line

I think he would come, there’s no guarantee derby will be promoted as last year proved and on top of that, when they’re in the premier league they’d be one of the favourites for the drop. At newcastle, it’s likely he won’t manage a bigger club, he’ll have a better squad of players where mediocrity will please the owner, he’s still fond of the north east and has helped us in the past regarding targets in holland and Germany. Another thing, he was fairly close to bobby robson as he used to go to him for advice so maybe he might have some sort of affinity for us.
Saying that, I’d rather he didn’t come lol.

Its a fine line between asset stripping the club to maximise his profit and having a product thats attractive enough to bring in potential buyers with £300 million to spend

Comment #304ok . so if someone came to manage us, someone who realistically is not qualified ( like pardew) but only looking to make a few quid out of the club, then i’m sorry but that does not make him exempt from the pardew like abuse if he fails miserably in what is an impossible job .
The new manager will know exactly how ashley works so he cant complain about finances – or the lack of them, just as much he cant complain about the level of abuse he will certainly get when he fails. It will be very difficult for any manager coming in with one thing in mind-getti ng his last paypacket, or expecting an easy ride for failure.

Comment #305As much as it would suit us to bring in a foreign manager I really don’t see it happening. His track record suggests another British manager with limited ability and little technical/tactical knowledge.

But the elephant in the room is Ashley, under normal circumstances yes he’d walk to SJP, but would he come in knowing full well that he’d have zero say on players coming or going?, where his wage would arguably be one of the lowest in the league and based on performances?
Out of work managers will see us as a way to get back into the game but managers currently under contract will pretty much give us a wide berth especially knowing that at any moment in time the owner could sell up and move onto Rangers

I said it yesterday and still think it may happen that a manager whom the fans have never considered could be appointed.
I’m basing this on the following:
(1) Carr in his travels in Europe will have seen many managers during his scouting trips. He is probably the only person at the club with the knowledge, which could be quite extensive and detailed.
(2) Given Carr’s achievements in scouting he will probably be listened to by Ashley. Charnley will probably concur as I doubt he has anything like the knowledge of the ‘market’.
(3) As Carr has done most of his scouting in Europe the odds on getting a foreign manager are therefore stronger than a British manager.
(4) Ashley wants to run a European management style (Head Coach, Director of Football etc) and therefore a foreign manager would likely be more familiar and more acceptable to this way of football management.
(5) Many foreign Head Coaches would probably jump at the chance of managing in the Premiership; and be cheaper !
(6) Given the less than enthusiastic reception Pardew received from the fans when he was appointed which never left him I would think that Ashley and Charnley imagine that it wouldn’t be repeated with the appointment of foreign Head Coach.
Of course I could be completely wrong and he appoints Kinnear !!!

Agree, Ashley is the biggest factor for any incoming manager. I don’t think the transfer strategy would bother him tbh, he’s worked abroad so should be familiar with it. I think it would be down to if he was willing to bend over for Ashley and let him do what he wants. Also, I don’t see him coming in front of the cameras and lying to the fans regarding Ashley and the club in the way pardew had to. Also, I think he has greater ambitions than mid table with no Europe and cup runs but it could be appealing for some that all they have to do is finish mid table each year and they’ll have guaranteed job safety.

I would love that to be the case and for Carr to have a great influence on Ashley but I swear Carr was at the club before pardew? Plus I’m not holding my breath with Ashley, he may look for advice from others but Ashley will make up his own mind and make the final decision himself, his appointments in the past don’t bode well for who our next manager might be,
