Crystal Palace have just announced Alan Pardew as their new manager, and he will take control of the FA Cup tie at Dover tomorrow afternoon.
Alan Pardew – new Crystal Palace manager
Pardew has signed a three and a half year deal that will keep him at his former club until the summer of 2018, after he spent just over four years at Newcastle.
His record at Newcastle was in 185 games played we won 71, drew 41 and lost 73 for a win are of 38.4% and a loss rate of 39.5% – an average record to be thruthful.
Pardew will replace Neil Warnock who was fired exactly a week ago.
Pardew joins a club that are joint second bottom of the Premier League on 17 points, after leaving a Newcastle side who are 10th in the league with 27 points.
This is what Alan has said today:
“I am absolutely delighted to be the new manager of Crystal Palace. “Everyone knows my history here, what’s important now is to move the club to the next level.”
“I believe with the backing of Steve and the board I can help achieve that and create some new exciting history for the club.”
“It has been a privilege to manage Newcastle United and I want to thank my captain Fabricio Coloccini and all the players, John Carver, Steve Stone, Andy Woodman and all of the staff, all of who have been outstanding servants to Newcastle United.”
“A special thanks also goes to the fans for all their support over the last four years. I must also thank Mike Ashley and the board for their unwavering support during my tenure at the Club.”
Palace Chairman Steve Parish said the following:
“We wanted a manager with a great track record and proven experience in the Barclays Premier League.”
“In Alan we have both these things as well as a man who has great affection for this club and shares my determination to take us to the next level.”
Newcastle’s Managing Director Lee Charnley had this to say:
“I would like to thank Alan for his service to the club.” “Despite public perceptions, fuelled by the media, Mike Ashley had never met nor spoken to Alan before his appointment.”
“However, what developed over the last four years was a very strong and positive relationship between all parties.”
“It is these relationships that, four years later, means the club is in a far better position, both on and off the field, and Alan has had a big part to play in that.
“During his time with us, Alan achieved two top-ten Premier League finishes, including a fifth-place finish in 2012, as well as taking us to the quarter-final of the Europa League.”
“He goes with our best wishes and thanks.”
Newcastle also issued this statement on their immediate future plans:
“Newcastle United can confirm that Alan Pardew has been released from his contract in order to be installed as the new manager of Crystal Palace. “
“John Carver and Steve Stone will be in the dug-out for at least today’s fixture, the club’s FA Cup third round fixture at Leicester City.”
“The search for a head coach has begun and an announcement will follow in due course.”
It’s a new era for Newcastle United – let’s hope it’s going to be successful one.
And Lee Charnley has a reputation for getting things done at Newcastle so hopefully we can get a new head coach in sooner rather than later.
Newcastle have been linked today with German coach Thomas Tuchel.
Comments welcome.

Karanka, De Boer, McLaren, Mainz manager….any of those will do nicely.
Other option could be someone like Hoddle
Would be curious to see what hoddle could do again. Talk more sense than most pundits

Comment #202I see the thug that is Callum mcmanaman starts a 3 game ban today. After receiving a straight red just 10 mins after coming on as a sub. A “tackle” that even the manager couldn’t defend. So in a youth game he tried to injure someone, tried to break haidara, last season he got frustrated and again tried to hurt a player and now this. Just more evidence that confirms “he’s not that sort of player”

Comment #204Geordie, Karanka is very defensive minded, let him stay with the Boro, let us get a manager without stealing from another club like the Scousers do with everything, we always seem to get even worse luck that way.

Comment #213Well ladies and gentlemen, the King has left the building. Even if Palace becomes his success story, we would still ask ” why didn’t you do it here then?”
Whoever the next King is, long may he rule.

Comment #214I wouldn’t call karanka very defensive minded. He tries to win with the players he’s got and he’s not got the players to play expansive football every match. They do have the best defence in the league, doesn’t make them defensive. Southampton as an example. I watch a lot of boro, my second team and hometown, and I’ve seen matches where they have been defensive e.g v derby which they won comfortably and matches where they’ve played on the “front foot” 😉 such as away v millwall.

Comment #218I am curious that the valedictory statements surrounding Pardew have been so complimentary all round and not at all suggesting any negative innuendo. It’s not like NUFC to be so professional.
Privately I guess that AP himself, by walking nicely into the job of his dreams at a time of his choosing, will be smugly orgasmic at having ‘put one across’ those who dared orchestrate him being sacked.
Equally, I feel that Ashley will be seething at not having been seen to actually be in control of Pardew’s final NUFC destiny.
Ashley’s next moves, as a means of professional retribution, could very well therefore embrace a lot of ‘look at what you are missing’ signals directed specifically to Pardew.
A win -win situation for us loyal supporters perhaps?
