Newcastle Lose 1-0 To Leicester At First Hurdle In FA Cup

Newcastle were knocked out of the FA Cup at the first attempt at Filbert Street this afternoon, as the bottom of the league Premier League side Leicester City, managed by former coach Nigel Pearson, got a 1-0 win to go into the next round.

Haris Vuckic in action this afternoon

So in the last two games we could only draw at home 3-3 to second bottom Burnley, and were lucky to get a draw in that game, and now we are out of the FA Cup – beaten by the bottom club.

Last season we were knocked out at the same stage at home to Cardiff  who were relegated, and this is the third successive season – and the fourth time in the last five years – that we have been eliminated in the 3rd round of the FA Cup. 🙁

It’s not good and we need a new head coach brought in as soon as possible – hopefully in the coming week and we hope it’s Thomas Tuchel.

The German coach would be a very popular choice with Newcastle fans  –  we need a lift and soon!

Leicester’s goal came after 39 minutes when Newcastle were caught asleep as the home side played a short corner, and Matty James got the ball into Leonardo Ulloa ion the box, and he hammered the ball into the net off the post to put the Foxes 1-0 up.

But the goal came shortly after Remy Cabella, who has a good game today, had seemingly scored for Newcastle, but the linesman flagged for offside – but on TV replays the Frenchman was onside and it should have counted.

In the second half Leicester almost doubled their lead when Chris Wood’s header was brilliantly kept out of the net by young Newcastle goalkeeper Jak Alnwick, who may have been making his final appearance for the Newcastle first team, with Tim Krul expected back next week.

Newcastle had made as many as seven changes to the side that drew 3-3 on Thursday and five of our best players – Coloccini, Janmaat, Sissoko, Colback and Ayoze – were not in the squad for today’s game.

We’ll probably be told they picked up knocks during Thursday’s game,  but that would be hard to believe, and the team that started wasn’t what John Carver said he would field – a team that could win this game.

The cups are just not a priority at Newcastle United anymore, and it would be very hard for anyone to argue against that.

This must be one of the weakest sides Newcastle have fielded over the last five years or even longer than that.

Some good news was that Newcastle youngsters Lubo Satka (20)  and local lad Callum Roberts (17) both made their first team debuts in the second half – but it was a disappointing result this afternoon and a disappointing performance.

Satka came on after 59 minutes to replace Davide Santon, who made his first appearance of the season, and young Callum Roberts replaced Vuckic after 79 minutes.

The team selection and the performance were too much for 4,319 Newcastle fans who made the journey today – another fantastic turnout by the Geordie fans – and during the final 10 minutes of this very poor game, they chanted against Newcastle owner Mike Ashley.

And at the end of the game the Newcastle players were booed as they went over to acknowledge the fans – for this pathetic performance – the fans are not happy – and that’s a huge understatement.

We feel really sorry for those fans who made the long trip to Leicester today to watch this tripe,  and John Carver should apologize to those fans after the game.

This display and the team selection is simply not good enough for the famous Newcastle United Football club, and John Carver will have some explaining to do at his press conference after the match.

How come our best five players were the only ones to pick up knocks on Thursday would be one good question to ask.

Newcastle have a glorious past in the FA Cup, but under Mike Ashley why do we even bother turning up for these games?

Next up is Chelsea at Stamford Bridge next Saturday and we assume we will field a much stronger side in that game.

This is not a good result and Newcastle fans are unlikely to be happy about this – we need a top coach brought in this week to sort hings out – and get the team organized and playing well again.

But to finish on a more positive note – there’s only way for Newcastle to go now – and that’s up.

That’s right isn’t it?

Teams:

Leicester: Hamer, De Laet, Morgan, Moore, Konchesky, Cambiasso, James, Knockaert, Nugent Lawrence, Ulloa. Subs: Smith, Vardy, Albrighton, Simpson, Taylor-Fletcher, Mahrez, Wood.

Newcastle: Alnwick; Santon (Satka 59), Williamson, Dummett, Haidara; Anita, Tiote, Vuckic (Roberts 79); Armstrong, Riviere, Cabella.
Subs not used: Woodman, Bigirimana, Gouffran, Gilliead, Campbell.

im not so sure, derby should have been up in the prem this season, qpr stole there place, i think steve mac might worry about that,
i think both could be thinking if they dont get up this season, players will be sold,

    you never know

I think they all deserve criticism except for Sissoko, Perez and sometimes Colback & cisse. The problem is a certain few keep blaming the same suspects….what’s even funnier about it is that CPL hasn’t even watched the game but repeats his drivel weekly much like Toon brother with Colo.

    They all deserve criticism!!

Ashley needs to go. The time is right to have a complete clear out, he can follow Pards.

Come on, only the fans can do this. Get him out of the club.

Otherwise we will continue to sell off our best players instead of building our team around them whilst winning nothing, trying for nothing and achieving nothing.

Carver will say players need a rest ie Sissoko Janmatt n Perez, bloody young lads should be chomping to play in the FA cup. Away fans deserve more than a patronising clap at the end of the game, sickens me at times.

Only positive about today was Cabella .

If Gouffran starts over him next game then Carver should walk .

Also John Carver (man of the people and Geordie at heart) drops most of our first teamers and fills the bench with nobodies . What a coward.

It annoys me so much, Why is it only key players need to rest, and why do they all need a rest at exactly the same time every single season when the 3rd round is on.

What needs to happen is players should be rested and rotated one or two at a time throughout the season, not all rested for cup matches.

    It’s pathetic.

Absolute disgrace. This was the only thing going for us this season. Out of the cups beaten at home by the scum. Another mediocre season with a potential relegation scrap. I really hope we get a decent coach and finish on a high as carver ain’t got a clue.

how long will it take for fans to finally boycott the games, giving a full protest against cashley, the whole reason he kept pardew is because he absorbs the abuse away from ashley, already carver is getting abuse and if ashley appoints him then it proves even more why ashley appoints such sh1t.

YOU FAT CQCKNEY B@STARD GET OUT OF THE CLUB.

Sage – the Tiote Effect is becoming all too apparent. He’s ok but he’s not all that. If he went it would be an opportunity I think.

Well it sounds like everyone expected carver yo send a depleted squad to the sword in a competition we have no chance of getting to the end of. What did you expect? Pl safety is the key to carvers future and he knows it. Having said that it’s hardly a triumph for a reasonably full Leicester team against what the commentator said was a team with an unknown bench. We had the ball in the net. And I even heard ‘fantastic ‘ and ‘save’ and ‘ Alnwick’ all in the same sentence!

Let’s chill and move on. Life after Pards is just beginning. It may get worse before it gets better, give carver a chance he’s Ashleys employee after all.

We are in danger of proving those comments about hounding Pardew out right if we jump on carver at match 2.

i know what youre saying m8, i also gave up my season at the beggining of this season after about 10-15yrs. No ambition by the owner what so ever and the quality of football under pardew was shocking.

Lets be honest, we were crap today. I listened on the radio and we hardly got into the final 3rd. I agree that carver should not have dropped our better players, but if we cant cope without 4 players then whats that say about the squad. Who was really missing today that could have played? Collocini, colback, janmaat and perez?

I’d guessed 1-0 to Leicester when I expected the usual 1st teamers so I don’t think the young guys have done that bad. That was their top 11 and they’ve been doing ok recently. Brave line up from Carver. You’ve got to play young uns at some point. Look at Spurs, they’re reaping the rewards of Sherwood playing the youths last season & the Spurs fans criticised him at the time, especially with regards to Kane.

Exactly. He isn’t. I compared him with Abeid and the differences. Tiote would/could be immense if someone trained him right. Not seen him very good in a long time though.
I agree with you, it’s often the whole team not performing and it’s difficult to do the right things when players around you don’t.

My lad, who I reared at my own bosom, told me last week that he wasn’t bothered if we ever won anything. He argued that most fans will never see their clubs win anything. And “what’s so exciting about winning a cup?” He goes to games because it is something to do. Like many of his generation, he believes that’s just how life is and there is nothing he can do about it but support his hometown club.

Tiote wasn’t playing against man utd and I’ve never seen a midfield be given the amount of respect they were that day!!! Rooney not being tracked by Colback and Sissoko…..yet nothing said from most of the haters on here because it was players they like. I just hate things like that, we don’t win or lose because of 1 player.

When Tiote leaves a new player will become the scapegoat. It’s quite sad to single out 1 player when another 10 or more were utter shite!

Exactly. Brave lineup was mentioned more than once before kick off. This is what some of you wish for. it’s a big step up into a team you’ve never played in before and league opposition you have never really experienced much of if at all.

Give them a break I say, they are under a strict remit from above. We all know this.

Some seriously melodramatic folk on here. We sent out a side that was never going to win. A team that collectively has 3 past Premier league goals between them. It was clear from the lineup Carver was surrendering this match, so to only lose 1-0 was actually quite an achievement. Not sure what the surprise is given we know the club don’t want the distraction of cups.

As for the ludicrous comparisons of West Brom and Pulis at home vs Gateshead to Carver away at Leicester, behave yourself man. What an incredibly irrelevant comparison.

4400 supporters turned up for NUFC while Leicester struggled to half fill their stadium. If this doesn’t show how much NUFC fans are taken for granted nothing will. Carver has not got the brains to manage Sunday league YET he is strongly linked with the an EPL job. NUFC are the strangest club of all time and should be locked up in a nut house with the keys thrown away for self harm. The clubs worst enemy is itself. MA wants a puppet so we can kiss goodbye to a good manager/coach. The names linked are nothing short of alarming and even those names hold very little interest in taking over at NUFC. We can’t even attract local lads ie Bruce to come here. Sorry but we are in for tougher times ahead. Today was not even 1st division standard.
