Santon, Vuckic, Armstrong, Cabella Start – Five Top Players Missing

Leicester City svgnufc emblem

Caretaker manager John Carver has just named Newcastle’s team for the 3rd round tie at Leicester City and Fab Coloccini, Daryl Janmaat, Ayoze Perez, Jack Colback and Moussa Sissoko are all missing and Cheick Tiote captains the side.

Teams:

Leicester (4-2-3-1): Ben Hamer; Ritchie De Laet, Wes Morgan (c), Liam Moore, Paul Konchesky; Esteban Cambiasso, Matty James; Anthony Knockaert, David Nugent, Tom Lawrence; Leonardo Ulloa
Substitutes: Adam Smith, Danny Simpson, Marc Albrighton, Riyad Mahrez, Gary Taylor-Fletcher, Jamie Vardy, Chris Wood

Newcastle: (4-3-3): Jak Alnwick; Davide Santon, Mike Williamson, Paul Dummett, Massadio Haidara; Vurnon Anita, Cheick Tiote (c), Haris Vuckic; Adam Armstrong, Emmanuel Riviere, Remy Cabella
Substitutes: Freddie Woodman, Lubomir Satka, Gael Bigirimana, Alex Gilliead, Callum Roberts, Yoan Gouffran, Adam Campbell

Referee: Lee Mason (Lancashire)

Davide Santon starts his first game of the season at right back.

Paul Dummett goes to center-back to partner Mike Williamson and Massadio Haidara comes in at left back – and it’s thought that both Fab Coloccini and Daryl Janmaat picked up knocks from the Burnley game.

As far as Moussa Sissoko is concerned, we just hope he’s missing because he picked up a knock, and that his omission is nothing to do with a potential move to Arsenal.

The bench is full of youngsters with Freddie Woodman, Lubomir Satka, Gael Bigirimana, Alex Gilliead, Callum Roberts, Yoan Gouffran and Adam Campbell joining Yoan Gouffran on the bench.

There are seven changes from the team that started against Burnley on Thursday.

It’s hard to believe that the cups have any priority at all at Newcastle, even after John Carver has said today they are important.

Former right-back Danny Simpson is on the bench for the Foxes.

Newcastle have been linked with German coach Thomas Tuchel who is a revolutionary young German coach.

He would be a fantastic appointment for us.

More fans think we will lose this game than think we’ll win it.

Why is it our supposed weakened cup sides look better than the starting 11 teams picked for the league.

I am curious that the valedictory statements surrounding Pardew have been so complimentary all round and not at all suggesting any negative innuendo. It’s not like NUFC to be so professional.
Privately I guess that AP himself, by walking nicely into the job of his dreams at a time of his choosing, will be smugly orgasmic at having ‘put one across’ those who dared orchestrate him being sacked.
Equally, I feel that Ashley will be seething at not having been seen to actually be in control of Pardew’s final NUFC destiny.
Ashley’s next moves, as a means of professional retribution, could very well therefore embrace a lot of ‘look at what you are missing’ signals directed specifically to Pardew.
A win -win situation for us loyal supporters perhaps?

Well if it is our strongest team then Pardew has been taking the piss at us more than I thought the past 18 month or so!

…anyways quite a refreshing team in my book. Now we just need to see some genuine tactics. Surprise me 😀

    Pirlo rested then…

Tiote needs a game here, the fact he is playing in a cup game bodes badly for him.

Bold selection by carver. I wouldn’t say he was forced into playing youngsters like Pardew. Carvers just got more balls than pardew

    Ronaldo Aarons

Who said Karanka was defensive? Like you I think he is a brilliant manager set for big things. In 24 games boro have scored 38 goals and conceded just 17….amazing considering where they were when he came in and he hasn’t really spent much.

Would love him here, been to the riverside a couple times this season, very nice to watch.

Now if he will please keep Dummett at CB after this match and Haidara at LB i will be happy.

Leicester look to be full strength so taking it seriously.

Havent a clue what will happen with these teams, just roll the dice…

Youthful bench, looks like it should be 433 with that line up. Thought Leicester would have rotated more players considering their league position.

That is the worst team I have seen in years at the very least we should have Perez colo colback on the bench if we are behind nobody on the bench will help at all. All excitement drained away

Very disappointed with that side and bench.

This sort of thing (done by a lot of big teams) is the reason why he FA cup has lost it’s magic, unless you follow a lower league side it’s not exciting.

Maybe the ideal scenario, in the eyes of the management, is that we have a couple of weekends off (4th & 5th rounds) to let our players rest and recover from injuries (as well as not risking further injuries).

vuckic played at man u as a sub didn’t he and didn’t do to bad
bigi back on the bench as well

I don’t think its that bad a team we have played a lot games and that lot should be pretty fresh

I can’t believe they aren’t even on the bench.

Anyone interested in reading a little about Thomas Tuchel should maybe start with these articles.

Given that he’s out of work and Ashley’s been given £3.5m to take Pardew off our hands then it’s worth considering that Tuchel could and perhaps should be approached with the promise of a decent salary.

Personally I think he’d be a fantastic appointment, and certainly one which would make sense in terms of a manager who looks to improve what he has, work on tactics and formations and seems to live and breathe learning the game.

There’s also a section of him towards the concluding parts of this article:

You not a fan? He’s worked with mourinho at madrid, learned a lot by the looks of it. Makes his team hard ot beat but gets goals as well.

For me he is ideal, the games i’ve been to watch and seen on TV boro are fantastic, score plenty of goals, play nice football.

Any reason you don’t want him?

Someone from the last thread towards the end, can’t remember who exactly. I agree, decent to watch which might start to bring the crowds back finally. I’m a regular at the riverside as I always struggle for tickets at st james and I’ve seen first hand the transformation for before he took over to now. He’s yet to hit that blip/bad patch to see how he copes in adversity but everything’s suggesting he is one for the future. Too soon for us ATM if I am honest, just my opinion though.

TS…you know when I see our team selection / subs in the league games I sometimes think the same thing 😉

…sometimes you just have to change things up (not only when you have injuries) how else are some of these players going to get a chance?

They can not all be Gouf being picked each week without merits!

I think it’s a brave selection from Carver – kudos!

Much as I love Perez, Sissoko etc. I think it’s right to rest them – we played only 48 hours ago and this is our 3rd game in 6 days. I suspect they would get tired and injury-prone half-way through this one. I would have put them on the bench though in case we needed them for 20 minutes or so later.

That comment about not conceding goals, don’t lose etc can be taken as a negative which I understand but in the bigger picture and judging their performances, he is trying to build a winning team at boro. They may not get promoted this year but I’d have them favourites to win next year. Attacks may win games but defences win titles.
