It’s not surprising that Newcastle are being linked with a lot of coaches for the Newcastle vacancy, now that Alan Pardew has officially left Newcastle for Crystal Palace.
Rafa Benitez at Napoli
If you believe the People and Alan Oliver today, then the five man short list is St Etienne’s Christophe Galtier, Borussia Moenchengladbach’s Lucien Favre, former Mainz coach Thomas Tuchel, former Lyon coach Remi Garde and 67 year-old Dick Advocaat, who is currently out of work.
In the Mail they are reporting that Steve McClaren and Rafa Benitez are the front-runners to fill the vacancy, and in the Sunday Sun former player Temuri Ketsbaia is currently available and he says he really wants the job.
We don’t have Rafa Benitez in our poll of nine potential new head coaches at Newcastle, because he just wouldn’t come to Newcastle, and we didn’t put Ketsbaia in because we forgot about him. 😀
A lot of the coaches being mentioned are not available – but neither was Alan Pardew when Crystal Palace came after him earlier this week, after thy had sacked their manager Neil Warnock a short eight days ago.
Rafa Benitez signed a two year deal with Napoli in May, 2013, after manager Walter Mazzarri resigned and last season he had them in 3rd place on 78 points in Serie A and they won the Coppa Italia, defeating Fiorentina 3–1 in the final,
This season they are currently fourth top in Serie A with 27 points from their first 16 games, so he has done well in Italy.
But Rafa likes to spend money and buy big players, and while he was at Liverpool he always wanted to spend big money on big players, and that just will not happen at Newcastle while Mike Ashley is still the owner.
There are some coaches who just would never come to Newcastle because of the frugal way in which Mike Ashley runs the club on a shoe-string, and we’ve always believed that Rafa is one of those coaches.
But we’ve been wrong before. 😀
Here are nine potential coaches we picked out who could get the Newcastle job – and hopefully a (very) good head coach will be appointed this week.
That’s what Newcastle fans need after that terrible display yesterday when we seemed to field a very weakened side at Leicester City.
Time to vote if you haven’t already done so.
Comments always welcome.

Comment #2Ashley`s biggest surprise in footy came when he got 35 million for Carrol who cost the club zilch – It was a road to Damascus moment for him – He believes, thats where the real money in football is – If he gets Rangers he also gets their academy the catchment area of which is all of Scotland , Ireland and , a lot of England ehttp://www.rangerspfc.com/default.aspx

Comment #6I’m sure 32 people have voted for carver as they want us to do worse than pards. I can’t imagine carver having 32 mates, ley alone all of whom read this blog.

He’s french, worked wonders with a team on a non existent budget, and apparently plays attacking football although that one I’m not sure of having not seen them play.

Comment #9Well its not surprising the way ash runs this club we don’t have a manager in place or close to finalising.
He must have considered other managers over the last two years, it is not really a surprise pards has not stayed.
Knowing how he runs things….could be weeks or months before a manager comes in. Certainly wont be before the window slams shut…he may want to buy players !

“everyone who knows me knows what I’m about. Front foot football and trying to win the game.” I will piss myself if this comes out of him at palace.

Comment #12Glen ‘Oddle should be on the list. I’d be happy with him.
Gary Neville would be great but he wouldn’t be seen dead in the same room as Ashley.

Its hardly the big surprise people claim that Pards left.
He’s almost certainly been told if the right bid comes in, Sissoko will be leaving and he’ll get the flak from fans for not storming Mashley’s office and chinning him. He probably knows, too, that there’s a good chance of no further signings until summer because he’ll be told we have reserves and returning injured players. At Palace, he gets double his money and adulation for him and his family if they survive, Its less of a surprise and more like a no-brainer.

Comment #1559 people actually want Carver in charge! FCUK SAKE
I suppose we can always bank on 1 or 2 idiots and a few stealth Makems messing up the polls Ed but I really think you should do something about John C having 50 different sign-in profiles.
