Let us know who you would want Newcastle to hire as the next head coach at Newcastle United.
Lee Charnley and Mike Ashley
We have included coaches who we have been linked with – whether that’s true or not, and we have included nine coaches in the poll.
Dick Advocaat – unattached
Christophe Galtier – St. Etienne
Lucien Favre – Borussia Monchengladbach coach
Thomas Tuchel – former Mainz coach
Remi Garde – former Lyon coach
John Carver – caretaker manager at Newcastle
Steve McClaren – Derby County coach
Aitor Karanka – Middlesbrough coach
Tim Sherwood – former Tottenham coach
Don’t worry whether they are available right now – just vote on who you think would be the best head coach for Newcastle.
It’s one vote per reader.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41The chants of “Fat Cockey Bastard Get Out Of Our Club” etc, were I guess understandable considering the side that was picked, the result, and the performance, but it still made me wince. I think this is the time to support the side and the club and allow Ashley some time and space to show his hand with his appointment. There have been some positive signs in recent months, some decent signings and kids breaking through. If he hires a dud, then sure, let the abuse roll down from the terraces, and by all means hound him out if we can. But surely we can try to control ourselves until then, and surely it’s in our better interests to do so.

Why people think we’d go for a top manager. ….. Or that a top manager would want to work here is beyond me. ….. Come on people. ….. You’ve just seen Pardew walk away from this club. …. does that not tell you everything you need to know about this poison chalice of a job? ??

Yes, your description is what my mate says.
But isn’t it interesting that Karnaka was an ‘unknown’ which is why Ed’s list may be way off what is actually being considered by Carr and Charnley.

You are right about top managers.
If a ‘top manager’ is a manager who has repeatedly won trophies over the years then I doubt he would consider a club like Newcastle who haven’t won anything for nearly 50 years unless he has a fatalistic self-destructive homicidal character with a God fearing passion to do what no one else has done in most of the life time of neatly all fans.

I guess you would put that tenner on Dover.
Having watched our lot over the last 60 years I feel it is my duty (or rub salt into the wounds) to remind those younger fans that things have been a lot worse. But also things haven’t really changed if that is not a contradiction!

Nobody is suggesting that Mashers picked the team, a lot of people think that the message from those in charge is to field a weakened team for the fups though, in fact they went to great lengths issuing a statement to let us know this, probably the only truthful statement in seven years.

It’s more likely than not a culture established by pards within the club that means weakened sides to the cup.

Comment #69carver knows the stance clubs stance on cups most prem managers I would think are expected to get to atleast the 4th round of the cup
we have no expectations, I don’t think carver was ordered to rest players so there not cup tied we have just come out period of 5 games in 13 days so he took a chance and rested some
as for a manager looks like were going to go continental not a bad plan
as for will they be good enough well I tend to think (hope) they will be simple reason all our buys are supposed to increase in value although I think its to early to write off cabella riviere they don’t look like the 18mill we have invested in them add that to anita santon tiote and a few others I am sure that have stagnated or not improved
a decent manager should and will bring the best out of these players and then the club can reap the rewards in more sales
as why would a manager come here laudrup went to Swansea the prem league is a huge draw
I do think we will pay the going rate also and our scouting network aint to shabby
as for Ashley we seem to be seting out the parameters for a head coach to work in as long we stick to it shouldn’t be any trouble

to back up what you were saying from the fan forum meeting with the club……
http://www.nufc.co.uk/page/Fans/FansForum/0,,10278~3831748,00.html
CF: “Do the club not think it is worth a cup run next season?”
The board outlined research into Premier League clubs in relation to domestic cup competitions in the last five years, with Swansea City the only club outside the traditional top six to win a domestic cup and not be relegated in the same season (Birmingham and Wigan Athletic were both relegated). Independent research into the cost of relegation over the past ten years showed there is a 50% chance of not gaining promotion back to the top flight and a 30% chance of being relegated to League One or further. In addition, if clubs do return to the Premier League, it takes four years on average.
GG: “If the club finished higher in the Premier League, would they aim for a cup?”
At this moment in time, the club’s priority is the Premier League.
