Eurosport France are reporting that Newcastle United are in advanced discussions with Paris Saint-Germain for the transfer of 25 year-old Moussa Sissoko – one of the club’s best players this season.
Moussa Sissoko – is he on his way out of Newcastle?
There have been reports that PSG want to exchange Yohan Cabaye as part of the deal to get Moussa Sissoko, but we’d be surprised if Newcastle think that’s a good deal with Cabaye being almost four years older than Moussa, and he would cost us £20M – the fee we got from PSG for him last January.
That’s far too high a price for Mike Ashley to pay – even in a part exchange deal – Newcastle like to sell players for £20M but we don’t like to buy them for £20M.
The two clubs are said to be in “very advanced discussions” and this could be the second time in successive January transfer windows that Mike Ashley has sold our best midfield player to PSG for a sizable fee.
Moussa had been linked with a move to Arsenal, who are said to have already bid £11M for him in this transfer window, and that Newcastle turned that down, although we don’t know if that’s true.
The potential swap deal between Yohan Cabaye and Moussa Sissoko was big news over the weekend, but we’d be very surprised if the Newcastle owner thinks that’s a good deal for Newcastle.
However Mike Ashley may think that getting £16M for Moussa when we only paid £2M for him from Toulouse two years ago is a good deal.
Let’s think he’s been here about 24 months and that’s a profit of £14M – so that’s over half a million pounds profit on each of the months he’s been at Newcastle.
Yes – let’s sell him.
If this transfer goes through it will show all the candidates for the head coach position what Mike Ashley is like to work for and that he is likely to sell Newcastle’s best players just as soon as a big enough offer comes in.
And where will that leave Newcastle – probably without our best player through the end of the season – a similar situation to last January when we plummeted in the second half of the season after letting Yohan leave.
Mike Ashley has done that since he sold Andy Carroll to Liverpool for £35M four years ago, and since then we’ve sold Demba Ba and Yohan in January transfer windows – and we never replaced them.
In fact some would say we have never replaced Demba Ba and Yohan Cabaye even today, since we are still short of a striker and a creative midfield player who can also score goals.
Wonder when Mike is going to sell Newcastle and get out of Toon?

Yep I like Mick Quinn, his no holes barred comments where diplomacy flies right out the window is both refreshing and truthful. Shame it’s wasted on our club as no one there will be bothered to take note.

Comment #246Phil Brown? Hmmm I dunno……. he ok and everything but I tell you now he’s no George Burley. But he does have a lovely orangey shimmer that sets off that monobrow, George is silvery and grey even when he’s happy.

Comment #250So many people saying how Mike Ashley has little or zero ambition for the success of the club yet there are those last tiny pockets saying because he’s a successful businessman he wants to succeed, what don’t they get, he is succeeding, at bleedin us dry and promoting SD, just because the yes men Beardsley and Moncur are doing very nicely on the pay roll doesn’t mean everything is rosy.

Comment #253Just imagine this:
Ashley does the following:
Sells Sissoko for 20 million and doesnt replace him. He saves a further 1.5 million on salary costs.
Roma makes the permanent signing of Mbiwa for 5 million and salary savings of about 1 million
HBA has already gone..salary savings of 1.5 million
Pardew has already gone….salary savings of 1.5 million.
Carver is appointed Head Coach at no additional cost.
Shola Ameobi returns on 6 month contract….salary cost…1 million
Ashley would reduce salary costs by about 5 million whilst raking in a further 25 million from transfer fees.
I could really see this happening.

Comment #254Let him go if he wants to leave. Siem De Jong will be fit soon and he was bought to play in the position Moussa was doing so well in anyway. No point in keeping want-away players, it’s like letting a stink bomb off in the changing rooms….the stink permeates everything. If the rumour is true, he must consider himself better than Cabaye which isn’t anywhere near realistic. He’ll be a squad player.

Comment #255That’s it make excuses why if he wants to go let him this one is fit soon BOLLOCKS he’s been our best player by a mile what u mean is Ashley hates the fans with a passion and will whatever it takes to dry hump them without protest . If the fans were as hostile to him as they are with the team when they lose a couple matches we might have a chance of getting rid of hm truth is we are weak fans with no clue of what to do about it just turn up and give him your cash for half a season ticket coz from jan should be free with the crap on the pitch and nowt to play for

Comment #258I agree that if he wants to go then let him
Our beloved team is in a state anyway. This is actually normal for us and won’t change until we are lucky enough to one day be blessed with a new owner for the club.
I hope that day comes sooner rather than later.
