Newcastle Reportedly Make Frank de Boer Their Top Choice

The Mirror is reporting that Newcastle’s number one target for their head coach position is Ajax head coach Frank de Boer.

Frank de Boer – is he Newcastle’s number one choice

It’s hard to know how true this story is, but the report suggests that John Carver could be left in charge for the rest of the season, as Newcastle will attempt to bring in a good head coach in the summer, when more good candidates are available.

The Guardian today reported that Newcastle did not see John Carver as a real candidate for the position of head coach, and may even bring in a temporary coach – maybe former England boss Glenn Hoddle – to coach the side for the rest of the season.

The Ajax coach rejected a move to Spurs last summer and was also trailed by Liverpool, and in the past he has refused to talk about any position until the league season finishes in Holland.

The 44 year-old is known to be keen to move to England, but with no negotiations being possible until May,  it’s difficult to know if Newcastle have any chance at all of persuading the Dutchman to join Newcastle.

The Mirror offer no evidence of how they know Frank is first choice,  but it’s now  a decent bet that Newcastle’s new coach will come from the continent with most English  managers going public about not wanting the Newcastle job.

Frank has been the head coach at Ajax since 2010, and Ajax have won the Dutch League every year since then, and currently they are in second position 4 points behind PSV, after 17 games played.

He is currently at 33-1 on SkyBet for the Newcastle position, with French coach Remi Garde the favorite at 4/5 on.

Other good coaches who would be available this summer include former Mainz coach Thomas Tuchel and St. Etienne coach Cristophe Galtier.

This can’t be true, De Boer is the most logical choice and when has Ashley ever seen logic.

The Nigel Worthington rumour had Ashley written all over it.

Believe it or not teams can identify a replacement before they sack someone, I know it’s a novel idea and something that we don’t do but Palace got rid of Warnock when they knew they could get his replacement, as you rightly point out sacked on 27th & 28th pards doesn’t give interview after match.

Obviously no one knows the answer but I don’t think it’s out of the blue, he knew his time was up with us and he’d never win the fans over!!

So your saying FDB is happy with a club who has a policy of non-competitiveness.
And will sell your best players twice a season without replacing them sometimes ever.
Will buy players who arnt needed (usually small attacking CM)to try and make more profit.
And will leave you to explain it all away while the Jabber himself counts his sticky cash.

Dont think so myself thats why everyone and his dog dont want it,we will get the desperate. The guy who has nothing to lose and without any scruples.

    OP

That’s just what it sounds like though, wait till the summer and then the excuses will start as to why he did not sign.

If he is interested, and we want him a pre-contract should be signed now so everyone knows what they are doing come the summer.

Maybe this is just more smoke and mirrors to get us through to summer with what we have.

Carroll – 35m, are you serious?
Cabaye – wanted a move, decent fee, went on strike
Ba – was a gamble in the first place with his dodgy knee, had a 7.5m buy out clause that he wanted to be triggered
Debuchy – duly replaced with Janmaat

toon22, selling is not the issue. replacing in a timely manner had been the problem until the summer.

MYM is arguably a fair criticism and if it is true, they were wrong to wait until it was a done deal before securing Alderwerield.

It’s all bollocks from the press. I thought De Boer already turned us down anyway? He’s not mad as far as I know. Why would he come to us to be a coach and Ashley yes man? Utter nonsense as usual.

If, say, Remi Garde came in in the next couple of weeks, would that rule out an immediate sale do you think?

I think it would certainly lower the chances of anything happening soonish.

Might as well believe that as well jesper mate. 😆 All press nonsense. Nobody knows what Mike will do but it probably won’t be good for the club. It will be good for Mike however, like hiring Parsnip was. It took some of the heat off Mike for a while but even Parsnip couldn’t stand it in the end.

Can someone help me understand why any negotiations with De Boer can’t take place until May?

Formal negotiations are out ’til then but were De Boer keen to join us, his agents could be on the case, already.

Surely it wouldn’t be the first time that an understanding were in place before a manager moved on. Or would it?

If Ashley sold up you wouldn’t object much I suppose. But the buyer will pay for what he gets, as was the case last time. Just money up front and no debt this time round I guess, a better set of books, but a side no nearer the senior clubs than when this owner took us on. Ashley I think will keep Newcastle and is most likely to look now to improve the side in a sustainable way, whereas a new owner would be an entirely, at least at this stage, unknown quantity. If he was going to go, I would have preferred he’d done so years ago, rather than now, when we are finally well poised to improve on the pitch.

    lester –
NUFC could get permission from Ajax to speak to FDB – they could ask at anytime.
I think I’ll be on safe ground to suggest no such “early” request will be made by Tubbs and his cronies.
FDB is on record as saying he will not leave halfway through a season.
If we were truely after him -contact would have be made already.
Just more guff from the press.

Thanks for that but to do so, surely there’s be a need for the manager in question to formally tell his employer that he intends to move on and gain their permission to talk to potential employers. Unless of course, his contract’s due to end in the summer anyway.

Yeah he will need permission from his boss, he is in his fifth year of his contract but I don’t know how long that is, but I seem to remember reading somewhere he is in his last year at Ajax.

Mr Tuff, you’re probably right in saying you can’t see Ashley doing the sensible thing – a bit like hanging out for Van Dijk whose price’s gone up a bit since the summer.

Oh, have you changed my name to lester without telling me?
