Returning Newcastle Star Happy On A Personal Note

It was good to see Davide Santon back last Saturday, and he played for 58 minutes against Leicester City at right back, in place of the injured Daryl Janmaat – and he was replaced by new boy 19 year-old Lubo Satka, who was making his first team debut for the club.

Davide Santon – made return last Saturday

With Daryl Janmaat expected to be fit for the trip to Chelsea on Saturday, it remains to be seen if Davide will return at left back, and whether Paul Dummett will again play in central defense.

This is what Davide has said to the local press:

“We’re out of the FA Cup but we have to first make sure we get 40 points as soon as possible, and then afterwards we can then think even more can be picked up.”

“We are thinking about more than just staying in the Premier League, we have to make sure we do our best there at Chelsea, and then think about Southampton back at home.”

“It was a good feeling to be back but not the best feeling as you don’t want to lose.” “I am happy on a personal note, it has been difficult but my legs felt right and I did not feel any pain.”

Davide has only eighteen months left on his five year contract, so we’re not exactly sure what his future will be at Newcastle.

We have only 18 games left to play this season through May 24th, and there’s one game most Saturdays through 24th May, so John Carver suggesting Ayoze Perez needed a rest last Saturday was simply ridiculous.

There is just one mid-week game at Crystal Palace on 11th February when  we’ll be up against Alan Pardew.

We have only 8 games to play though 13th March – that’s about 10 weeks so our schedule is not exactly hectic from now on, but that’s what you get when you are knocked out of both local Cups and are not playing in Europe.

We have 27 points in the league after 20 games played, and we need 13 points as soon as possible to reach safety – after all that’s our number one priority at Newcastle these days – keeping in the Premier League at all costs.

We cannot see us getting much out of the game at Chelsea on Saturday.

What do you think?

Whoever we get as manager / coach I’m sure the Toon army will give him the required support even if he has a bit of a horror first ten games out. Wouldn’t want the word ‘fickle’ bandied about 😉

Of course if we can’t get George Burley in, Garden would do. I’ll be disappointed, but I think I could learn to live with it. 😀

I don’t think santon can defend, but then again he played in a mourinho team and he makes his fullbacks defend so he must be capable.

Would like to see what all the lads, gouff, willo, colo, santon, dummet, haidara, anita (all the ones who get criticism) do when a new manager is brought in, can always let them go in the summer if not good enough.

Haidara, Santon in that order . Dummett as utility bench for cb / lb. Actually. If Willo is not going to be shredded, keep Dummett as cb with Willo understudy until we can eBay /gumtree him for glue. Need a rb understudy for janmaat as Santon only just fits the bill.

Haidara definitely deserves to get his chance at left back as he’s much better going forward than Dummet, and is pretty good defending aswell, also I think Dummet is much better at Centre back, not sure on Santon he’s not the best defensively but is good going forward, will be good to have on the bench as he can cover either side.

I see in previous articles (you on whiz Ed?) some people are actually in preparation for rolling over and accepting John Carver as head coach….incredible.

That would be right up there with appointing JFK as Director of Football.

Somebody please distract John with a pie to allow Lee C time to find a real manager

Sage – for me that’s the Pardew / Carver legacy right there. A good few players who have not progressed or have gone backwards.

    sorry delay reply.

regarding Jak, I agree with you about lack of communication. I did say in his first start that he lacks communication with his players, he went jumping around when crosses are coming. Even with Dummet OG was the result of that although not entirely Jak’s fault.
But this situation, we can’t blame anyone at the club, it’s just bad luck. Krul injured then Elliot as well in very short time, nobody can predict this happen.

In the absence of Tiote, Abeid and Raylor would Santon be able to operate alongside Colback and Sissoko in our midfield ?

Santon should be tried as RW from the start, I would rather pair him with Cabella than Gouffran. Cabella and Santon as wingers, so Sissoko can play in the middle behind striker or defensive midfield.

maybe, but rather him used wide right attacking and have haidara left back.

we have colback, anita, sissoko and cabella who can all play in the middle

Cheers to the couple of people who explained more about Garde….. glad he is flexible, but not too keen on one up top if its going to be 4231 again. We just dont seem to suit. Maybe if the mindset is more attacking it could work. Willing to give a new manager a chance so fingers crossed.

I haven’t been impressed with Anita. Chelsea have an extremely strong and skilful midfield and we will need characters who can stand up to them.

I’m not convinced on anita either, not sure what he does other than quick 10 yard passes.

    Markaccus

I don’t mind any formation at all, providing they play as a team and support each other in attack and defence, chelsea play 4231 and create/score a lot…it’s all about the midfield getting forward around/beyond the striker to create chances.

A proper coach can get teams playing well in a variety of styles.

It doesn’t bode well for us at Chelsea. They are probably seriously ticked off at losing to Spurs. I would imagine that Mourinho will have fired them up before taking the field.

I agree with that in principle. It’s just our 4231 always ended up looking like 451, as our wingers never got forward. Like you say, if a new man can fix that i would be happy.

@cyprus (going back a few threads) was chatting to a guy i work with who is a greek guy who follows olympiakos about him! I know Georgia regularly set up with 3 defensive midfielders and occasionally played 5-5-0 and 4-6-0. also they never scored more than once in 5 years under him.
No idea of his time in Cyprus tho!
You’re right about the circus, hed fall out with Ashley within minutes

Half expecting them to sell Sissoko first. Especially if they’re appointing a manGer they know we’ll be happy with! The manager announcement would tale the coverage and heat away from the player sale aswell as we couldn’t hold new manager accountable as hed not been appointed yet!

@transfer sage – this might be wrong and he might have swapped position during Mourinho, but i am sure when Santon broke into inter at 18 and Mourinho said he would be the best fullback in the world he was playing right back? Under mourinho i only ever saw him play right back or right mid, only under mancini do i remember him swapping to the left, losing his confidence amd becoming awful!
Might be wrong tho, don’t watch serie A hardly ever

Just reading that Swansea offered Bony a new deal which he signed, it took his release clause up from 20M to 30M, no danger of Mike Ashley doing that, he’d be devestated if it never got matched and we got stuck with a top player.

cheers for the bio on garde are you going to source bio’s on the other candidates???? 🙂

the man ticks a lot of ashleys boxes I would think with his development of youth
but if you give him a proper defensive coach then I don’t see to much going wrong if its him we get

    on to this thread

it doesn’t matter what formation we used or use under pards we never have people running into the box when was the last time you see a cross from the right and the left winger running into the box we never have overlapping players if the fullback is charging forward the man in front or the midfielders drop into the fullback position

They screwed Toulouse when we signed him working against the club after promising hed stay! If possible French agents seem worse than english ones?
Surprised man city arent knocking in for him? Like for like version of Ya-Ya Toure and MS is actually a better player at 24 than Toure was

I’m just hoping who ever does come in will have a list of demands of their own which will ensure they have a greater say than Pardew in what happens, anybody coming in who is willing to dupe the fans is obviously on a secret pay deal to do so and will be quickly found out.
