There’s an excellent article in the Chronicle today by former Newcastle left back Olivier Bernard on Remi Garde, and he gives an absolutely glowing reference of the Frenchman’s coaching abilities, his excellent man-management and his ability to bring young players through the ranks.
Olivier Bernard – Garde would be perfect for Newcastle
It’s a good read, but then Olivier says the former Lyon coach will want some assurances if he is to join Newcastle, and he will not want his best players sold from under him, and he will not keep his mouth shut.
Oh oh – that could be the death knell of his candidacy for the Newcastle job. 🙁
There are two ways to look at Remi wanting some assurances from the Newcastle owner and Managing Director Lee Charnley, if he is to take over at St. James’ Park.
One is that he will just not be given the job, because Mike Ashley will not be able to control him as much as he wants to control the head coach, and as he did with Alan Pardew and even Chris Hughton before him.
The other more positive way to look at it, is if Newcastle are going to be successful and Remi is going to become a top coach at Newcastle, then Mike Ashley must stop selling our best players at any time, when the price is right.
So we’ll see – but it’s an enlightening article from the likable Durham City owner – and you can read it here.
Maybe Remi would be a great choice for Newcastle?

Comment #4A scenario for Ashley at Rangers was outlined to me a trusted friend last year. It seems to have so far gone as he imagined.
He believed Ashley would not go for overall ownership of Rangers, but could gain control of its assets and potential assets, as well as effective control of the board, while covering its liabilities with piecemeal loans to the club.

Comment #5Taking on Garde is a massive massive gamble sorry but it just stinks of another Pepe Mel for me a disaster waiting happen. I honestly believe wed be in safe hands with Sherwood, hes young and hungery, cheap aswel, the way he went about his bisiness at spurs was very credible didnt take any crap from the prema donnas and dropped the underpreforming stars and brought in the youngsters, remmeber he was the one who took Harry Kane from the scrap hip at spurs and now look at him, developed Mason, Benteleb, Sherwood is the man best friends with big Al too.

Comment #6Sherwood managed 50% win rate, I think, with a squad worth over £200 million. In the same season, Pardew managed less than 40%. But everybody here knows why that season fell to pieces. Before Cabaye left, we won 11/22 i.e. 50%! After he was sold, we won 4/16, i.e. 25%… At the start of 2013 Newcastle’s squad was worth something like £80 million, then the club sold a £19 million goal scorer. Pardew didn’t do the selling. On those stats, why would you want Sherwood?

Comment #8sherwood only had a few months as manager….only reason he got the job was to plug a hole while Levy was looking for his prime target. He only managed with his heart…not his head. Tactical novice as i see him…..Remy Garde had a few years at lyon …did well…tactically aware….entertaining football…knows about pressure due to managing a title fighting team (Lyon)
i dont think you can put sherwood in the same bracket as Garde IMO

Comment #9When Sherwood took over Spurs they were a mess he sorted out alot shit while there which Pocehtino is reaping the benifits for now. His win percentage might not be up there at the time but it takes time and if he was given it hed have done a good job. Alan Pardew wouldnt inspire me as a player what did he do in football? His tactic’s were a joke his record of bringing players through wasnt good either. Players need managers or head coaches who were there and done to relate to them, to inspire them to motative them. Sherwood has his PL winners medal was he captain at Blackburn?not sure.. I couldnt imagine a man with a low pitched french voice ( Remi Garde) on the training pitch inspiring many geordies maybe the french i dunno? his a disaster waiting to happen IMO. Then where does that leave us? Struggling relegation battle who needs that?

Comment #10If PL Winners’ medal is a recommendation for management, then Shearer’s 1 win in 8 games + relegation is a mystery? Really great players don’t become really great managers necessarily. Anyway, Remi Garde has a far more distinguished playing career than Wenger or Mourinho, or that other football nobody, Roy Hodgson…
