French Club President Upset At Newcastle

One of the foreign coaches that Newcastle have been linked with for over a year now is St. Etienne coach Christophe Galtier, who has done an excellent job for his French club since 2009.

Christophe Galtier – St. Etienne coach

It seems that some of the Newcastle hierarchy think he would do a good job at Newcastle if appointed, but he has already said he would not leave St. Etienne until the end of the season, so if Newcastle do appoint a coach in the next week or two it’s very unlikely to be Galtier.

And the President of St. Etienne, Bernard Caiazzo, is questioning why his manager would ever leave for Newcastle.

Le10 Sport are reporting that Galtier is unlikely to leave in the middle of the season for Newcastle:

“Do you really think Galtier in the middle of a season in which he plays the podium, would then leave like a thief for a club like Newcastle?”

“It would be insulting to Christophe that one has the slightest interest in such a rumor. Christophe is not a money man and he’s been here for years and is engaged in a project.”

“The rumors about him, such as those are concerning,”

It’s hardly surprising that Caiazzo is upset that Newcastle may want his head coach half way through the season, when they are currently well placed in 4th position in the French League on 36 points, only 5 points behind leaders Marseilles.

But there are at least three good reasons Galtier would want to come to Newcastle, the first being he will get more money than he’s getting at the French club, although it’s true that Caiazzo says Christophe is not interested in extra money.

The second reason is that the English Premier League is a much higher stand than the French League and has much higher visibility on the world stage.

The third reason is there will be better players he has to coach at Newcastle.

It seems like if Newcastle do appoint a manager soon, the head coach Newcastle get in will probably be Remi Garde, who is one of the few continental coaches free at the moment, and the news is he wants to join the club.

In our new poll of continental coaches, it’s Ajax manager Frank de Boer who Newcastle fans want in – but again he will not come in mid-season.

Christophe Galtier is 5th in the voting.

Why be upset with Newcastle? It’s the press that are running with these stories in France too not the club.

Hi Ed, I have a suggestion for a blog post, or indeed series of blog posts over the coming days. We do seem to be linked with a huge number of coaches from various clubs, countries and walks of life.
You have put out some scattered information about some of them. But what about a blog post giving a short bio of each coach. This would be a really interesting way of comparing coaches, records, playing style etc
    What do you think?

I don’t think we have approached anyone yet, and don’t think we will till the summer, then either Carver will get the job, or if his results are bad we will appoint a new coach then. (if the results are bad)? I’m still waiting for them to be good.

why do they make it sound like we called Galtier, Mcclaren, Hoddle, etc. and asking each of them “do you want to be our manager? pleeeeassseeee”?

The press are sensationalists, it’s expected. But you would think that the club owners would know better.

A simple statement like, “we have had no contact with Newcastle about our manager, and would like to say we are going to do all we can to keep him here”. would be enough and show a bit of class.

I agree mate, but I think FDB is a none starter. Just don’t think he would come under the current climate at Newcastle.

the chances of him coming to any climate at NUFC are slim when teams like liverfool, spurs, maybe barca need him and Van Gaal promoting him to any big teams.

That’s very true, but as he wants to come to the prem, and he once referred to Newcastle as a sleeping giant, I feel he may have a desire to wake it up one day. Just don’t see that any time soon. But there is always hope.

PMSL! If he could get some of our players to wake up on the pitch he would have achieved a great deal just there.

But I don’t think he will come, our next coach will be relatively unknown, cheap and will do as he is told, FDB is not that man.

garde is looking our best bet, a 6month contract to see if he can work within the clubs boundries, then if it is working out a longer contract and if not keep the fdb option open

Any Future Coach will i believe be looking for assurances about January sales of Key Players! At least, if he has any sense, he will? This is why FDB will think twice before taking the Poison chalice at Newcastle ! Any Future Coach, will have to have more Balls than Pardew had in his 4 year tenure at the Club!
