This Will Be Newcastle’s Much Changed Side At Chelsea

We could have as many as seven changes from the team that lost to Leicester City in the third round of the FA Cup last Saturday.

Fabricio Coloccini final whislte Chelsea 2-1

Fabricio Coloccini should return at Chelsea

And caretaker manager John Carver took some time out at the beginning of his press conference on Thursday,  to say it was the Newcastle Doctor who ruled out the players who did not appear for Newcastle last Saturday.

The team really surprised and angered Newcastle fans, who were expecting a strong side to be fielded because that’s what John had said the day before the game.

However, we do expect those four top players who were absent – Fabricio Coloccini, Daryl Janmaat,  Jack Colback and Moussa Sissoko to be back in the starting line up at Chelsea.

And it will be good to have Tom Krul back in goal and Ayoze Perez will also return after he was rested by Carver last Saturday.

Cheick Tiote and Papiss Cisse are off to the African Cup of Nations and could be out until mid-February.

So this is the side we think John Carver could feld on Saturday at Stamford Bridge.

Krul
Janmaat Dummett Coloccini (c) Santon
Colback Sissoko Anita
Cabella Riviere Perez
Subs: Alnwick Haidara Williamson Vuckic Armstrong Roberts Gouffran

That’s seven changes to the side that started the game last Saturday at Filbert Street and lost 1-0.

We think Paul Dummett could get the start at Stamford Bridge at center-back, with Mike Williamson being off form at the moment, and we could see Davide Santon start at left back, and preferred by Carver to Frenchman Massadio Haidara.

What team would you put out on Saturday?

The players have nothing to lose at Chelsea,  because there are not many fans expecting other than a defeat.

A  massive 83% think we will lose this game.

Reckon he’ll go 5-3-2/5-4-1 as he did at the end of the Burnley game!
    Not optimistic for this one

And unfortunately we get beat, regardless, by a better side, but so what. I think that’s a nice looking 11.

yes, that 11 is a nice looking team. Ok we should get beat by a much stronger squad and a well organised team too but in saying that it should be all out attack with nothing to loose. Catch them by surprise.

    Sammy-Perez-Cabella
    Colback-Sissoko-Santon
    Haidara-Dummett-Collo-Janmaat
    Krul

No doubt Jze will play Willo instead of Haidara, could play Anita and Riviere but they will be good subs.

This should be at the guinness world records book. For 4 years, before every single cup game, the injuries hit our main players. And after 3 days they are just fine to play full 90 mins. And this liar Carver today speak about his “clear conscience” for the starting XI. He apparently think of us like a morons… just like his left lover. It’s a shame that he like a geordie should know how the things are.

REALLY? ??? Riverre up front (can’t think of anyone I’d rather play than the prolific Manu) with Santon (out for a year and ALWAYS awful on the right or left as a midfielder)as our flying right winger eh????

Can’t fail obviously. With team selections like that maybe you should apply for the managers job? This is why I don’t post anymore. Why bother joining in with the daily trolls or the clueless ‘fans’.

Last time I post. This blog has gone to bollox. Later…………………………………………………………………………..

GeordieDan with Cisse suspended and Ferreyra apparently not performing well, that only leaves us with two strikers being Perez and Riviere. I fail to see you put forward an alternative, do you suggest not to include Riviere and just play Perez as a single striker for 90 mins?

Why are you criticising the blog and the posters here when the real problem is obviously Newcastle’s clear lack of strikers..

I don’t think so.. According to http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_premier_league/epl_injury_table.php Aarons is expected to return on 31st Jan, but I am not sure how accurate that source is. Also says Sammy is out until the same date..

If Sammy and Aarons are both out for the month it makes the left side rather lacking. I wouldn’t be surprised (but I’d be disappointed) to see Gouffran playing there in the up-coming games.
It would be a good chance to see Gutierrez get one last run in Newcastle colours.. He gives 110% every game, he’s just beaten cancer and he looks like Jesus… so if anyone can pull off the miracle we need to beat Chelsea away, it’s him!

N1CK06 – Thank you. Getting Aarons and De Jong back will go a long way.

I’m no expert, but IMVHO Riviere and Cabella need to keep playing and will at some point regain confidence in front of goal. (Misquoting Gladiator: “Some are for playing, some are for selling. You, I think, need both.”)
