Injured Players Magically Return – Tim Krul Starts

chelseanufc emblem

Caretaker manager John Carver has just named his side for the game at Chelsea this afternoon and the four players injured last week at Leicester have all magically recovered this week.

Teams:

Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Petr Cech; Branislav Ivanovic, Kurt Zouma, John Terry (c), Cesar Azpilicueta; Nemanja Matic Cesc Fabregas; Willian, Oscar, Eden Hazard; Diego Costa
Substitutes: Thibaut Courtois, Filipe Luis, Gary Cahill, John Obi Mikel, Ramires, Loic Remy, Didier Drogba

Newcastle (4-3-3): Tim Krul; Daryl Janmaat, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Paul Dummett; Moussa Sissoko, Vurnon Anita, Jack Colback; Remy Cabella, Ayoze Perez, Yoan Gouffran
Substitutes: Freddie Woodman, Davide Santon, Massadio Haidara, Haris Vuckic, Sammy Ameobi, Adam Armstrong, Emmanuel Riviere

Referee: Roger East (Wiltshire)

Freddie Woodman is on the bench so we assume Jak Alnwick must be injured, and there are seven changes from the side that started last week in the FA Cup 3rd round.

What’s that about Newcastle not caring about the Cup competitions?

Mike Williamson keeps his place in central defense and Paul Dummett is at left back, so Davide Santon is on the bench for the game today.

It’s a 4-3-3 formation with Cabella, Perez and Gouffran up front, and Manu Riviere is relegated to the bench.

And it’s good to see Sammy Ameobi on the bench again, having recovered from his knee injury.

Newcastle have won four of the last six games against Chelsea – and John Carver knows that – this is what John has said about the game today:

“We’ve got a good record against Chelsea and I’ve got to use that as a huge positive.” “We’re going up against one of the best sides in the Premier League, if not Europe, and one of the best managers.”

“It will be great standing in the technical area next to him (Mourinho).” “I’m going to take it in my stride and I’m going to enjoy it but I want to win. Whatever means it may take, I’ll do my best.”

Not many Newcastle fans are expecting to get much out of this game today, although it would be a real shock if we do come away from London with something this afternoon.

Williamson and Gouffran; did AP leave or did not have anything to do with team selection either when he was at NUFC?

Willo should not be playin, I’d rather have dummet with haidara left back

Cabella should not be starting, he’s struggling to handle the physicality of the premiership, and carver decides to put him up against one of the strongest physical teams in the league. Last 20 mins or half an hour yes, not not starting.
anita is the same, only reason he’s starting is nobody else. Abeid injuried, not sure about tioti, seems to be injuried aswel

Are you sure Sissoko has not been present more often when there has been 3 or more goals scored against us?

    Mr.Tuff (previous post)

Just on a point of interest, if being complicit in the crimes of MA is following the orders of your boss and doing what he tells you to do, isn’t that what the majority of employees do, and expect to do, throughout their working life ?

And Carver proves once again why he shouldnt be allowed anywhere near the team.

Same as Pardew, both clearly clueless

Willo again, Dummet LB which he isnt with 2 LBs on the bench, Gouffran again so entire left side offers nothing so all will depend on Janmaat again.

Hopeless fool, you would think knowing how Pardew was disliked, if he really wants the job then he should have come in with his own ideas and not just repeating the same crap we have had.

oh dear might aswell have pardew in charge still.
willo and collo together. on super6 i put 5-0 chelsea. why play gouffran if ameobis available? against burnley why play haidara left wing and put him on bench this time? why not keep continuity and play haidara instead of gouffran?
why not do something different to pardew carver if you want the job?

Look at this as a positive. If we get a pasting today, it might force the board to step up the pace to bring in a coach. ALSO, our team is packed with pace in Perez, Sissoko and Cabella. Win win today lads. 😉

What do people expect any manager to do with our squad? You need someone on the bench to help change the game.
With all our injuries and Cisse and Tiote away we’re hardly spoilt for choice.

Does anyone think Carver can outsmart Mourinho? I doubt he could outsmart a 5 year old to be honest.

His best option would have been implementing his own ideas/ formations/ players and gaining the element of surprise (beginners luck), but he looks like he’s just trying to keep it the way it was. A clear sign he has no ideas of his own.

mag 52 – there is a distinct difference in an ordinary worker doing what the boss says in ordinary employment spheres as opposed to trying to make an analogy with a football owner and football manager.
What about Percy saying he did not agree with banning the press – but surprise surprise his signature is on the banning letter.
I do not accept the suspicion that you perhaps think Percy was a victim.
The Nuremburg Defence surely does not apply -” I vas only acting under orders”.

i would love to think Carver could hold it together until the end of the season , bring in FDB ,

we only need 13 points , but I just don’t think carver can do it, I have no faith in his selections and tactics

if FDB won’t come now, then remi garde probably will , so get him in ASAP
