Caretaker manager John Carver has just named his side for the game at Chelsea this afternoon and the four players injured last week at Leicester have all magically recovered this week.
Teams:
Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Petr Cech; Branislav Ivanovic, Kurt Zouma, John Terry (c), Cesar Azpilicueta; Nemanja Matic Cesc Fabregas; Willian, Oscar, Eden Hazard; Diego Costa
Substitutes: Thibaut Courtois, Filipe Luis, Gary Cahill, John Obi Mikel, Ramires, Loic Remy, Didier Drogba
Newcastle (4-3-3): Tim Krul; Daryl Janmaat, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Paul Dummett; Moussa Sissoko, Vurnon Anita, Jack Colback; Remy Cabella, Ayoze Perez, Yoan Gouffran
Substitutes: Freddie Woodman, Davide Santon, Massadio Haidara, Haris Vuckic, Sammy Ameobi, Adam Armstrong, Emmanuel Riviere
Referee: Roger East (Wiltshire)
Freddie Woodman is on the bench so we assume Jak Alnwick must be injured, and there are seven changes from the side that started last week in the FA Cup 3rd round.
What’s that about Newcastle not caring about the Cup competitions?
Mike Williamson keeps his place in central defense and Paul Dummett is at left back, so Davide Santon is on the bench for the game today.
It’s a 4-3-3 formation with Cabella, Perez and Gouffran up front, and Manu Riviere is relegated to the bench.
And it’s good to see Sammy Ameobi on the bench again, having recovered from his knee injury.
Newcastle have won four of the last six games against Chelsea – and John Carver knows that – this is what John has said about the game today:
“We’ve got a good record against Chelsea and I’ve got to use that as a huge positive.” “We’re going up against one of the best sides in the Premier League, if not Europe, and one of the best managers.”
“It will be great standing in the technical area next to him (Mourinho).” “I’m going to take it in my stride and I’m going to enjoy it but I want to win. Whatever means it may take, I’ll do my best.”
Not many Newcastle fans are expecting to get much out of this game today, although it would be a real shock if we do come away from London with something this afternoon.

Comment #84Jesus christ you guys are railroading Cabella. He just showed you what he’s good at there, running at defenders.
If we can get him doing that rather then sitting out wide I could see him being far more effective.

Comment #85And he’s staying positive himself, still wanting the ball, which is good.
His problem is he’s still trying too hard at times.

Comment #95BandB…you are only trying to force that analogy to fit your argument.
…you cannot just bypass the coach here. The only thing the owner his here is a rich uncle or grand parent that the coach is dependant on.

Comment #98are we chelsea’s bogey team?
i’m getting worried because if we continue playing as we are currently, then carver might be the new manager!
perhaps he’s doing so well because he wants the job but once he gets it we’ll drop form again unless ashley were to give him a contract where every win doubles that percific weeks wages
