The Team And Expected Result For Newcastle Today

Newcastle players have really nothing to lose today, so they should go out and give it a (very) good effort against Chelsea,  and who knows what may happen?

Fabricio Coloccini – should be back today

Chelsea were hammered 5-3 at Spurs in their last league game, and that’s the first time a Chelsea side coached by Mourinho has conceded more than three goals in a game – so their confidence may not be high – just as long as we can keep them from scoring.

And Man City are joint top and their records are currently identical including points, goal difference and goals scored – which is pretty amazing.

Four out of five fans think we will lose this game

How Will Newcastle Fare At Chelsea?

Newcastle should be able to field a strong side today – after all it is the Premier League.

Assuming Janmaat, Coloccini, Colback and Sissoko are all fit again after missing out last week, and Tim Krul is ready to play, this is the side we think John Carver will put out today:

Krul
Janmaat Dummett Coloccini (c) Santon
Colback Sissoko Anita
Cabella Riviere Perez
Subs: Alnwick Haidara Williamson Vuckic Armstrong Gutierrez Gouffran

What’s your team for today?

There’s no reason why we shouldn’t be seeing Jonas Gutierrez on the bench, since he seems fit now and has played a few matches for the Newcastle U21 side, after returning to football after beating his fight with testicular cancer, during which time he showed tremendous courage.

Jonas could also provide the Newcastle players with some inspiration today – and it looks like we will need some of that to get something out of this game.

If Chelsea get it into their heads to day that this is going to be an easy ride for them, that might work to our advantage.

The press the pundits and even the fans are telling them how easy it will be today for them, lets hope that leads to complacency and we might snatch this game away from them.

Santon in the front three seems an odd choice

While I don’t think our ball boy will outfox the Special One today, it’s an opportunity for the lads to dig in and make a game of it for their own pride. They don’t need a guy in a suit on the touchline to play to their abilities, Chelsea may want to kick back from getting stuffed by Spuds, but we have the advantage of knowing that are vulnerable, not a happy place for a team like Chelsea to be.

I can’t call this today, but I don’t think it will be a rout if we do get beat.

I’m not so sure mate, the only time Santon was played on the right wing for us he scored a goal.

Ed…you also did a piece the other day saying you expect Jonas to leave Newcastle this January.

…and now he’s on the bench.

To be fair Jesper, Ed wasn’t alone in thinking that.

I have seen a few on here suggesting Santon plays on the right in the attack in a 4-3-3.

…my only questions are you nuts or playing too much FM?

Would still rather have goofy there than Santon, even though he’s having a not so fantastic season

    ——–Krul
    Daryl-Colo-Dummett-Haidara
    ——Colback -Sissoko
    Gouff —Cabella—Sammy/Santon
    ———–Ayo

Dummetts a better CB than WIllo

Gouff has to play today if we don’t double up on Hazard he’s gonna run riot, i trust him to help out Daryl over Cabella etc

Perez has to play up top, Riviera doesn’t look up to it at the min

I would start sammy if fit – Pace on the break will be key today and him and Haidara have played together in the reserves a lot. Bring Santon on later

Sisoko and Jack infront of the back four is a powerful combo and sissoko can power out from deep to get the ball upfield. Cabella in the number 10 role floating around i think thats his best position.

If we get a draw today its an amazing result, were not in form, have loads of injuries and are playing the best team in the league.

I think we might do it tho.

I think Santon is better on the right than the left. Having said that I would like to see this team:

    Krul

    Janmaat Coloccini Dummit Haidara

    Anita Sissoko Colback

    Perez Riviere Cabella

To whoever was talking about Garde being a gamble on a previous thread.

True he would be but I don’t see how any of the fan favourites (FDB and tuchel) would be any less of a gamble.

The safe thing to do would be to go for the tired and tested mid table vanilla English manager.

The fans want a shake up and it could go either way but why not try something different.

Insanity is trying the same thing over and iver and expecting different results.

Gambles seem to be working for Southampton with pochettino and then koeman.

Our problem is those playing wide in our suppose 4-2-3-1 (which in reality is a 4-4-1-1) are playing more as a part of the midfield.

…it’s visible in both the amount of tracking back and the few body that support our lone striker in the box.

There are different kinds of gamble – some can be calculated. There are no guarantees in football.

…but if we only change the manager and keeps everything else the same I don’t think much will change for the better.

12% think we are gonna beat Chelsea in their own yard where they have a 100% record? Really?? Love the optimism guys…
    I’d go
    Janmaat-Colo-Dummett-Haidara
    Colback – Santon – Sissoko
    Cabella – Riviere – Perez
Chuck Santon in at DM, see what hes made of, can’t get any worse than Anita. Just please dont start Willo CB and Dummett LB. Dummett is a dreadful LB but looks good at CB. I can see Gouffran and Willo starting today! Fingers crossed I’m wrong.
