It was really surprising and maybe the first time it’s happened, that a Newcastle manager left the club because he chose to manage at a smaller club with much fewer resources than a club like Newcastle United.
Alan Pardew – at Crystal Palace
But that’s what happened with Alan Pardew – who couldn’t seem to get out of the door quickly enough on Tyneside, when the Crystal Palace manager position became available.
Alan got off to a great start yesterday when Palace came from behind to beat Tottenham 2-1 at Selhurst Park, in his first league game in charge.
This is what pundit Jamie Redknapp has said today about why Alan left Newcastle:
“Anyone wondering why Alan Pardew changed clubs only had to look at Selhurst Park on Saturday,” “At Newcastle, the ‘Sack Pardew’ banners were on ice. At Palace, they would have carried him out of the ground if they could.”
It’s not an easy job to be the Newcastle manager and the stresses and strains are much more than at a smaller club like Crystal Palace.
Maybe Alan Pardew just got sick of all the adversity at Newcastle, and realized there were easier ways of making a living than managing on Tyneside.
Or maybe he was getting sick of the handcuffs put on him by the owner?
Pardew lasted four years at Newcastle and he did well in his first 18 months when he saw out the second half of the first season in charge after taking over from Chris Hughton – and he did that without Andy Carroll who Mike Ashley sold in the January window to Liverpool for £35M – just to make things interesting.
And then we finished 5th in the Premier League in May of 2012, and everything seemed to be looking up on Tyneside, but then things went terribly wrong.
The squad wasn’t big enough for Europe and we struggled against relegation in the second half of the next season – two years ago – and then last year was just pitiful in terms of our results.
We noticed Newcastle didn’t stand in Alan’s way and let him leave quickly, but now we may pay for that if we cannot get a decent coach in soon.

If Carver remains in charge, it wont be a boring mid table season, it will result in a relegation battle unless we can get something from Southampton and wins at Hull and CP, something I doubt will happen.

we finished 16th with pardew. safe hands not so sure. when we went on a losing run with AP we didn’t do it by halves and broke all records. Just ask charlton and west ham fans..

Nice little comment from elsewhere:
“PhilippaB
On Cabella – ah, that was the LolCat we know and love from his performances for Montpellier. Would suggest consistency will come from a run as starter, in position (he can play three, so that shouldn’t limit things too much – just not necessarily the ones he has been played in at times). I know he looks like a strong wind might blow him over (which it can, as can many other things) but he played 41 games last season (39 starts) and usually played the full 90 minutes, so he can probably cope.”
I don’t know what LolCat is?

From what I have seen under Carver I think we would be fine, nothing more, but safe around 10-12th.

Comment #53Catchy ‘people seem to forget the facts, that P45 had a huge part to play in 3 of our biggest out goings in his tenner, Ba, Debuchy, Cabaye, all wanted to go because of P45?
Where is your proof of this ? All three players went to Champions League clubs for more money ? As usual you change the facts to suit your narritive.
im sure you can find plenty of stuff on the web about it ,
Ba complaind about the style of play , didnt suit his game , then got shoved out on the wing ,
colo wanted to run away, well documented
cabaye wanted out , and went on struck to force a move , he was one of a few senior players that had a meeting with p45 about the style of play
debuchy went to the World Cup and let his mouth go about how p45 was killing his game
jonas came out and cirri sized the training , said it was to easy , was then forced out of the club
no word yet, but how long do you think cabella would be happy on the bench ?

Your right Chris Coleman is spouting clap trap, you only have to look at Southampton (who does not envy them) they have a dedicated transfer boffin and Koeman is restriced/supported to the players that are approved/recommended.

Comment #56That Mourinho comment about only taking the games against the big teams seriously, like so many of his comments, is, while outlandish, also has a real nugget of truth to it. When we sold Cabaye, the message was clear, seasons over. The big games are the only thing to stir the blood, for a pro, especially the good players we have on our books, if the club isn’t in it, even if it’s only to put yourself in the shop window. Even the derby, really why bother, the club didn’t care. They sold their best player and didn’t replace him, why should the players care, when the club can’t even be bothered with the facade.

Comment #57I am glad that more than one candidate is being considered for the Head Coach role, as I was calling for a professional and vigorous recruitment process to be undertaken. Unlike those that have happened in the past under MA.

Comment #58Good to see someone thinks we are doing the right thing and taking time choosing the next yesman as coach.
Iys gonna be Carver and Stone man cant you see. They are going through the motions of appearing to be looking at candidates to fool the fans, thats all.
If i am wrong we will appoint Sherwood,oh no.I would sooner have P45 back as that toosser.

Comment #60If the options for the new Head Coach are limited until summer then I would (loathingly) accept Carver temporarily as the cheapest option. If it meant that money was spent on a couple of much needed players that could have an instant impact on the teams performances.

I agree with your way of looking at it and I think it’s they way that most managers see it as well. The really smart ones even have figured out that they will get an even better deal at their next club if the go here first.

Comment #64Watching how FCB works, there would be no surprise finding this whole charade is purly press speculation at best. He will leave it with Carver until the end of the season as it costs him nothing.
If Carver does a reasonable job ie keeps us away from relegation, he will be given the job full time for next season. NOT because he is any good, or the best man for the job. Simply because he is the cheapest option!!!

Comment #65Interesting phone call overheard at club today.
LC “Hello Mr Ashley. It’s Lee.”
MA “Lee?”
LC “You know, Penfold.”
MA “Oh, Penfold. Spit it out man, I’m kinda wrapped up.”
LC “It’s just that the natives think we are making a bit of a meal over this coach appointment.”
MA “Okay. Ring Jean-Michel and get him to say Garde shouldn’t go to Newcastle because it smells of poo. That’ll get them on my side.”
LC “Oh Carrots, chief! You’re a genius.
Two minutes later…..
LC “Bonjour Monsieur Aulas. C’est Lee.”
JMA “Lee?”
LC…Qui…je suis Penfold.
JMA….Oh, Penfold.
Comment pouvons-nous vous aider cette fois, mon ami?”
LC “Eh!”

Comment #66I’ve always had mixed feelings regarding the way Ashley runs the club. There are times where I think criticism is entirely warranted, other times praise, at other times I think an open mind is needed. Generally speaking though, I’d prefer it if we put more of our assets on the pitch, rather than in the bank or into infrastructure. Not massive investment, but just a bit more into the here and now.

Comment #70My thoughts on how Mr. Fatty Tubbs runs NUFC:
“I want someone who lives up to this grandeur in my head
And you don’t do much to sell me I’d be best with you instead.
I hate the way I feel, but I don’t think I can change.
I just breathe you each day.
Are we only damaging the little we have left?
Both of us swimming in the same polluted mess.
Are we too damaged now to possibly connect?
To honestly connect?”

Comment #71Jesper, couldn’t agree more mate, but since when did that bother FCB?? He will go for the option that will cause him the least expence and the fewest problems.
He will get Carver for even less than he paid P45, keep the same “Yes Sir” culture in place and make a profit on the deal. One very happy FCB!!

Comment #79I honestly cant stand the logic of anyone willing to pay money to go to watch a club that has,nt in interest in winning things, just to finish above the relegation places is the target.
I thought we had a chance progress in the FA Cup but Carver,s team selection put an end to that. That team selection only strengthened my belief that we dont want any success here.
