News in the Mirror today that 48 year-old Bruno Labbadia, who was born in West Germany but is of Italian descent, has been contacted by Newcastle United, as the club seems to have widened their search for a head coach.
Bruno Labbadia – good experience in Bundesliga
Labbadia could well be the fourth candidate contacted since last last Friday, with the other ones thought to be Remi Garde, Christophe Galtier and Thomas Tuchel – although we cannot be certain it’s those specific people.
Labbadia has coached a number of German clubs including Stuttgart from December, 2010 until August of 2013, when he was sacked, after Stuttgart lost their opening three Bundesliga matches of the 2013–2014 season.
Reports out of Germany are claiming that Newcastle have been in contact with Labbadia twice, as Newcastle seem to be considering a number of candidates before making a final decision on who should replace Alan Pardew – either immediately or in the summer.
Bruno Labbadia is presumably available to start work at Newcastle immediately – should he be offered the head coaching position on Tyneside – and he has shot into the betting at 10/1 on SkyBet.
Bruno has been in management in Germany since 2003 when he retired from playing, and has managed clubs such as Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburg before he took on the Stuttgart job.
Labbadia was a striker and played in the Bundesliga for several top German clubs including Hamburg, Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen, and he played 557 games and scored 204 goals in his career, and picked up two German caps.
And maybe Labbadia is the one who Newcastle have been talking to but hasn’t been in the media spotlight – which is what some papers were reporting last night.
With this appointment at Newcastle being so important, it’s probably a good thing that Newcastle are casting their net wide – in order to get the right coach to succeed Pardew.
We only have two games to play in January.
Here’s the current betting on SkyBet for Newcastle’s head coach position.
Remi Garde 1/2
Tim Sherwood 5/1
John Carver 9/2
Bruno Labbadia 10/1
Steve McClaren 12/1
Comments welcome.

Comment #41I think we’ll end up with Carver too
Simply because of the 8 year contract.
It will drag on for the whole of January though. Good excuse to divert attention from making any signings.

Comment #45Wildly off topic but…can anyone enlighten me as to what that prize fool ronaldo was doing with that strange gutteral noise he shouted at the end of his Bell End D’Or acceptance speech? Was i hallucinating or did he actually do that?

Comment #46A good European coach would be a vast improvement for me. But I want to see it happen now. No more stalling Ashley or the badger barrage begins!!!

The most alarming thing for me in all of this is the “informal talks” that to me says we aren’t serious about discussing the role but will make it seem like we are doing our due diligence before naming Carver. Also it’s a way of delaying transfers whilst forcing out a sissoko or maybe even a Cisse….no JFK to blame this year. By delaying the naming of a manager and leaking reported meetings which are informal it shows to the gullible lot that they are trying….1 train that’s always on time at this time of the year and that’s called “we tried but couldn’t get anyone over the line”
This constant no news of links just feeds us with enough BS to ensure we don’t get the sack MA banners out!!

Comment #49Our Toon, Everton are three points out of the bottom three and we have a bright young squad, and resources and infrastructure to move to the next step. I’m not sure there’s much between the clubs. Totally agree though, it’s dependent on whether the owner wants to do it or not.

If we didn’t have Ashley I’d say we are ahead of them!!! However Everton have a man who loves them dearly and will help them throw almost 30m at a Lukaku!!! We have everything in place on pitch but off the pitch we are a million miles behind, we have no ambition but come May Everton will be above us mate I have no doubt!!

Comment #53Truth is even if venables (if big burger comes through)comes in he will have an easier ride on the media storm when sissoko is sold on the last day of the season. If venables is only with us till the end of the season he isn’t going to care and fatty wins again.

Comment #56I’ve learnt over the years that everything mentioned in the press is always Ashley misdirection and the truth is always the polar opposite of what he leaks.
He loves coming in from left field and keeping us guessing…it’s just his way.

Comment #76I agree re everton / newcastle. They are a better run ” normal” club. However i am encouraged by the managerial search. Last time i dont think anyone was interviewed. Pardew was just parachuted in ( he must have been pinching himself ) . Although pardew claims he didnt know ashley, and he went public about this , he possibly did know llambias and maybe that was the key. Now at least we can say that charnley is more professional and carr is probably thrilled pardew is gone and he can get a likeminded coach. I dont think pardew was as bad as people made out but he wasnt good
He will do proportionally better at paliss with his fast wingers but i’m glad he is gone and sure we will get a much stronger replacement. Garde hopefully, if he can handle the nufc stress

Comment #79Based on what i’ve seen, we just need someone to take over for the second half in games! Carver seems to have the hang of first half….
Id happily take carver till june if it meant De Boer or tuchel coming in but then Toon and sods law would mean carver would turn out amazing and de boer would flop
