The Injury League website has reported today that Newcastle remain well on top of the injury league for the Premier League for this season so far, with Manchester United in second place, Arsenal 3rd and Everton in 4th place.
Siem de Jong – been out since September with torn thigh muscle
There has been lots of news about the Red Devils injury troubles this season, but it’s nothing compared to those of Newcastle, and it’s been a chronic problem for Newcastle for many years – and there has to be a reason why we pick up so many injuries every season – especially hamstring injuries..
The injury league allocates points each week for the number of players that are missing for each club – and here is their latest table.
The Physioroom.com web-site details the number of injuries each club has and what they are plus estimated retunr dates, and at the moment we are top (of course) with 10 injuries followed by Hull with eight and then Arsenal, Everton and Liverpool with seven injured players each.
Notice that Chelsea – who are top of the league – have had the fewest problems with injuries this season, and maybe we should see what they do in their training and what the medics do – to ensure few injuries are picked up.
It would be a huge thing if Newcastle this season had only one or two injured players out each week – like Chelsea have had.
Maybe we would have been in the top six?
It’s worth a trip down to Stamford Bridge to at least investigate.
The way to put this to Mike Ashley is that we could feel much stronger sides each week, and therefore we would tend to get better results – which means we would finish higher up in the Premier League – which means we would get more money evry Mat from the PL
That would get Mike’s attention. 😀

Comment #41Looks like defoe is having a medical at the unwashed. Jeffrey from outer space will be very happy no doubt. They reported earlier his wages would be around 80k a week. Wow. Talk about desperate lol. Bet he scores against us though the little blurt.

Comment #45I like Santon a lot. He’s very comfortable on the ball, has good pace, goes past people well, although his crossing could be improved a fair bit.
In a positive and organised team, his confidence and control of the ball would be strengths. In our team he’d been playing in a way which made him look worse due to defensive midfielders not covering as much as the should. Having Jonas burn himself out by babysitting him was a waste of a winger and showed the flaws that the team couldn’t be organised well enough to cater for his forward runs.
Other highly rated defenders aren’t as strong defensively either, which is Santon’s weakness, but they have a better way of working as a team to nullify threats, whilst using the player’s plus points to improve the effectiveness of the team.
On where could he, would he, should he play, he was on Radio Newcastle before saying his favourite position was left-back as he can cut in. That’s not to say he can’t play right back or as a winger, he doesn’t mind playing there, it’s just that left-back was his favourite position.
Again, I think he’s a classy player and could be utilised well to a team which enjoy possession and goes forward.
To me, Santon on the ball is the opposite of PD or MW who are panicky and uncomfortable. That in itself can lead to turnovers of the ball and is at times an eye-sore to watch them play.
Don’t forget the numerous man of the matches Santon has had earlier in his time here.
Some don’t like him, I do. With an alternate improved defensive defender, you may also get a poorer player going forward, and on the ball. It’s just pros and cons and how the team plays.

Comment #54Wow, if Santon is the best defender in the league, then MA is a jockey, I K ow it’s a wind up but howa man, watch the cup tie v Brighton last year and Lua Lua done the kid for 90 mins, also he promises lots going forward, then it sizzles to nowt, he is a failed winger playing at fullback, when fit of course, cash in.

Comment #55At the beginning of the season they brought in a new guy who was supposed to address the number of soft tissue injuries….It looks like it’s progressively getting worse. There must be some connection to the training surface or something missing in the warm up to games because it’s been a systemic problem for years

Comment #64I know it’s frustrating but you can’t blame MA for the way he runs the club. Loads of fans complain 24/7 but what do they really want? 52,000 pack SJP which means they are happy to hand over there hard earned cash. The future of the club is in the fans hands not MA.
A boycott of one home televised game would send out a massive message to All.
People would rather complain than show there true feelings.
Like I say you can’t blame Mash there’s money to be made.

Comment #69Now that both Haidara and Dummett have played at LB it’s safe to say Santon is better than the other 2. I mainly say this because the other 2 are naturally left footed yet can’t cross to save there lives. All 3 are poor defensively but Santon is better on the ball and in going forward!!

Comment #72Santon was bought because he was injured, if he was valued at the 5M we paid for him while he was fit he wouldn’t be here, like always Mashers took a punt on him because his injury had him valued cheaper than what he normally would have been worth.

Comment #75My opinion on Santon is that he can be our first choice left back provided we play to his strengths by pressing high and attacking from the off .
Pardew played him in a team that sat back and invited pressure and that’s why he was found out so often .
