There was some very good news for Newcastle today when caretaker manager John Carver said that both Siem de Jong and Mehdi Abeid returned to training today.
Siem de Jong – back in training today
Siem has played only twice for Newcastle since signing for us form Ajax in the summer and it will be great once he’s back in the side.
He was injured in training in September when he tore his thigh muscle – but he looked a very good player in pre-season for us, and he could get some goals for us.
And Mehdi Abeid has been outstanding for us this season, and broke his toe when on his first International call-up for Algeria in mid-November so it’;s good to have him back.
Mehdi Abeid – will be great to have him back
Mehdi (wisely) withdrew from the Algerian squad last week for the African Cup of Nations but it looks like both Mehdi and Siem will be available for our game at Hull City on Saturday 31st January.
We actually prefer Mehdi to Cheick Tiote in defensive midfield – and Mehdi has really looked like a very good player this season – he’s really improved from his season on loan at Panathinaikos.
We should also be getting Rolando Aarons and Ryan Taylor back in full training sometime this month too, so when they are all available we should be able to field a strong team – and hopefully we can start getting some good results.
Gabby Obertan is also back running, and will resume full training in about two weeks time.
This is the update that John Carver gave today, although no news on Rolando Aarons:
“Siem de Jong and Mehdi Abeid trained for the first time today -Mehdi is further ahead than Siem.”
“Gabriel Obertan is around two weeks away from joining in with the team – he is in great condition and has worked really hard.”
This is really good news for Newcastle – especially when we need some. 😀
