Remi Garde was in Manchester today in his job as a Canal + pundit, and he was there to report on the game between Manchester City and Arsenal – which Arsenal did very well to win 2-0 – and their defense actually played well today.
Remi Garde – drops hints on French TV today
He was asked on the air by his colleagues about the rumors that he was the hot favorite to be Newcastle’s new head coach, and to that he answered:
“I can’t say anything today.”
Maybe tomorrow?
Remi Garde is expected to have talked to Lee Charnley and others at Newcastle at least twice over the last week, and he has been the favorite for the job for the past couple of weeks.
Currently he is favorite on SkyBet at 13/8, with John Carver at 2/1 and Steve McClaren at 5/2 – so Remi’s odds have lengthened and Steve McClaren’s have shortened over the last couple of days – McClaren was at 5/1 on Friday.
As the broadcast went on today Garde is said to have dropped hints – according to the Mirror – that he could soon be in the Premier League – and you’ve got to believe he at least thinks he is close to getting the plum job at Newcastle.
We don’t think he will have been offered the job yet – but if that’s true about dropping hints – he must at least think he’s in with a very decent chance of getting the job at Newcastle United.
Of the three top favorites for the job, the only one we would be happy with is the Frenchman, and we don’t think John Carver or Steve McClaren would be popular choices with the fans – or good ones for the club.
According to the Chronicle today Lee Charnley is closing in on his top choices and coming to a definitive decision – but that could still take a couple of weeks.
Somehow those two things don’t seem to be compatible – closing in on a decision but it could still be two weeks away – but we’ll see.
We’ve heard absolutely nothing from Newcastle about the vacant head coach position since they announced Alan Pardew’s departure on January 3rd.
What do you think?

Comment #3Just can’t see this happening. I like him as a manager, hes got good ideas and is very tactically astute, his style of play would go down well at newcastle. But when, under Ashley, do we get whats good for the club? Or even less what we want??

Comment #4Laudrup’s odds have come in to 5’s and 6’s from 40s and 66-1 from just this morning whereas Ranieri is still between 33’s and 100-1.
Wonder if today’s been a big interview day. That is they’ve all been watching that over hyped film 😉

Comment #8Laudrup’s style of football would be massively welcomed here. Swansea played like barca at times under him, although I heard his attitude at times was pretty poor, refused to train in the rain in the 13-14 season

Comment #21Basically, the club are ding their due diligence with a new manager, but as the new head coach will not be responsible for bringing in new players, why are we not bringing in a couple of new players especially a new decent defender and decent striker who are desperately needed and who we need to fill the giant vast space of CB and CF

Comment #24We’re not bringing in players because that costs money IIYT @21. And Carr hasn’t found the next inexpensive buy yet. Especially at CB. We will dither away the entire window and do nothing to strengthen the squad.

Comment #25I think Garde would come, many places report he wants to work in the premier league and we offer him a good chance. He isn’t proven yet so wouldn’t imagine he get a top job if one was on offer, most of the better clubs are secure with their manager.
I have a feeling he will come in. In the summer I think De Boer will go to southampton so wouldn’t wait for him.

It means if you bet £4 you get £11 back. (£7 winnings plus your £4 stake).
The lower the odds the more likely something is.
For example something with is 4/7 would mean you need to bet £7 to get £4 winnings plus the £7 stake back.
A lot of places offer the odds in decimal and not fractions now, so 7/4 for garde would be 1.75…… that’s an easier was as it means the closer the number is to 0 the more likely something is.

That’s fine with me, just means we need to be aware and plan for that to get the next one in.
Look at southampton, they do it with players and manager, pochettino did well now koeman has taken them on.
Swansea usually do ok too, martinez, rodgers, laudrupp…just missed a bit with monk although he is ok.

Comment #36A lot of secrecy at the club I mean.
Sure we’ll find out when the transfer window closes, it’s a case of keeping people’s minds occupied on the future coach rather than new signings.
