It sounds like he has been sounded out but neither party has looked at each other in earnest, and of course he might then run a mile when he sees us for what we are, warts and all, but then again maybe not. If he did come, it would be quite a coup and represent a major step forward in terms of the clubs relationship with its fans, as he is an impeccably schooled and accomplished football man, but it’s one thing declaring an interest, quite another entirely getting him in place, and another again translating that to success on the pitch in this league. But really, he is the guy you’d want.

But if he were to come here – or any other candidate for that matter – they need to pan out a deal now, even though he won’t start before the end of the season!

…anything else then the candidate or our club are just stringing us along

You would honestly hope Ashley has looked enviously at clubs like Southampton , Swansea and Ajax etc where they have a manager who can get the best out of players to sell for crazy prices but can still play good football that keeps the fans onside , bring through youngsters etc

Pardew failed at this spectacularly but if we did get a decent manager the whole atmosphere could change in an instant

We can only dream as it will probably be Carver permanently

@santon: In all fairness, Pardew did build bridges from the academy to the senior team, but I feel that was more out of necessity than desire. Now we need Ashley to keep that focus on the youngsters and keep the first team competitive – similar to what we did with Sir Bobby.

Of course, that would make sense, and at this club that’s difficult to come by.

Come on Frank you know if makes sense.
Shirt revenues would go through the roof, you can see it now,
DB 7 would be a good one.

The interview is a ‘come and get me in the summer’ if ive ever heard one.

He says liverpool asked, spurs enquired then mentioned ‘these three clubs’ at the end included newcastle followed by ‘i am ready’.

Only fear is he is the logical choice for next barca manager and we could wait and not get him.

It’s crazy how we are the 19th richest club in the world but we can’t compete with the likes of Hull, Southampton are even WHU.

so this is how MA & CO works things out —-

    — billionaire owner

    — 19th richest club

    — Skint!

The following conversation was recorded by the bug that the mag planted.

MA: Right penfold it’s sorted me ol mukka

    P: What is your highness?

MA: I’ve told you before haven’t I, don’t call me that unless we are indoors!

P: Sorry your highn….I mean lordship.

MA: Right I’ve had enough just drop it.

    Please: Drop what? The soap?

MA: No no. I give up! I’ve sorted out the Frank De Spencer rumour to coincide with our little titbit about getting a new man in the summer.

    Please: Your dumping me?

MA: Fcukoff numbnuts. I transferred some cash into an offshore account for our *wink wink number one target Frank so he’d say he’d be open to the possibility of coming to us but not just yet. I even went as far as to post him some vouchers with stunning savings at SD stores. Gullible geordies aye my little mate.

P: Best mates forever and always but I’m slightly worried if you get caught because isn’t that illegal your holiness? What if someone finds out?

MA: Illegal? ILLEGAL? Nar, I do what I want when I want plus it was transferred from your personal account so I’m good.

    P : Thanks boss.

The mood in penfold’s old storeroom immediately brightened up. In the background what can only be described as a popping sound could be heard. Make of those strange noises what you will.

From what I saw/heard I believe that he doesnt want to manage us. As soon as Newcastle were mentioned he instantly stated that he had previously had interest from Liverpool and Spurs (bigger clubs). That tells me that he thinks he can do better then us, which- in my opinion- he can. He probably thinks he has a good chance at being the head coach of Barca hence mentioning the Spanish league. I dont blame him, who would want to manage us? We are a last resort to him, not bothered though, at least he didnt laugh in the interviewers face when he mentioned us. He just kind of said ‘no’ discreetly. Could be wrong like, but I agree with others saying it will be Carver if he. keeps us up. Wouldnt suprise me.

You’ve no doubt heard of the phrase ” don’t s**t in your own backyard” ……. well, I’m pleased to say that the magnanimous saviour of Glasgow Rangers has just indeed done that big style with his appalling handling of the USC redundancies in Ayrshire.
Politically his back will soon be against the wall and the whole of British Football will want to run him out of our wonderful game.
Mark my words … he’ll be off sooner than we can all imagine.

I haven’t watched the video cos I don’t have sound at the moment. Be great if we do get him but if others mentioned are out for him too it’s unlikely.

What’s the craic with the redundancies then? how much crap is he in?

I think you’re absolutely right – I got exactly the same impression when I watched the video.

He also made it pretty clear a couple of weeks ago that he wasn’t really interested. When asked about Newcastle, he said:

“I’m honoured, but it is not a club I aspire to manage”

    Canny

It appears one of his companies, USC (a branded liesure goods retailer) has appointed an Administrator after the brand ‘Diesel’ called in unpaid debts (Ashley? Unpaid debts?). It seems the store chain have had rows with Adidas among other big names about USC stockpiling goods which were bought in bulk with heavy discounting. Over a 1000 scots’ jobs at risk and the Scottish press refer to staff being informed of them without reasons being given.

As ever, communication’s a problem in that business too!

On 3 November, 2009, Curbishley won his case for constructive dismissal against West Ham United. After the ruling, he said: “I am obviously delighted with this result. I very much enjoyed my time at West Ham and never wanted to leave, but on joining the club I insisted that my contract contained a clause confirming that I would have final say on the selection of players to be transferred to and from the club.”[22] West Ham paid him £2.2 million in compensation.[23]
