Lee Charnley Interview Only Made Things Worse – Poll Results

It was good to see that Lee Charnley finally talked about the Newcastle search for a new head coach when he was interviewed on Tuesday night in the Chronicle.

Lee Charnley – Newcastle’s Managing Director

But there is communication and then there is the message you are communicating.

Newcastle have been poor in communicating although the Managing Director didn’t agree with that view, and said he thought it was just how they communicated that was the problem.

But then there is the message you are communicating, and Lee is very good in explaining the way that Newcastle are being run – and what he said guaranteed there will be no changes in the way Newcastle are run when the new coach arrives.

And while the coach is one of four who will decide on transfers he does not have the last word.

So nothing much has changed – and that’s reflected in our poll results when close to 70% felt worse about Newcastle after Lee Charnley’s interview.

As we said there is communicating and then there is the message you are communicating.

Unfortunately under Mike Ashley both are not good.

From now until the end of the window we will have shite like the last story out from the PR gurus at NUFC to ensure we show that we are actually trying to bring players in. The manager debacle has been put to bed, now let’s ensure we feed the gullible masses BS so they buy/renew season tickets

No doubt we’ll release a statement about being the 19th richest in terms of revenue generated and how this will give us the platform to build on as of next season!!! Come all….We accept all kinds of gullible geordies!!

    definitely went wrong

all he did was confirm that the club wants somebody who will develop players (never said the team) and will not complain when said players are sold.

nice little production line with no intention stated to progress the club and win things,

The fact they claim we made progress in the last 4 years under pardew ruins any credibility

While AP could handle this type of interview, I don’t think JC can. So LC into the breach. As usual with reporters, good writing but bad questions. Why not ask if mgt sees positions that need bolstering or are just fine. If the club is now a business, then LC needs to demonstrate why customers should buy the NUFC product.

Haha, Sherwood comes out and says he isn’t interested, but was clamouring for the Palace and West Brom job. More likely to be that he hasn’t had his call returned when ringing to apply for the job.

As others have said, Remy has played for QPR and Chelsea, so a non starter there.

Odd that Colo hasn’t gone on the Dubai trip for personal reasons, yet was at the Under 21’s last night. Maybe there is something in the Colo and Jonas rumours.

    BeeGuy,
You thin that the Chronicle were given a choice in the questions they could ask?

They have only just got back in, conveniently around a similar time to the club needing to push some propaganda…

we lose a couple end of the season I think raylor is one of them but next season we will lose a lot

such bad planning we lose colo will saylor in one window there is no point in giving any of them a new deal colo to old saylor injury prone willo useless
there are a few other as well

the squad will need significant money spent on it just to maintain us being in the prem soon if all these players walk I presume they will as no1 seems to be sorting out contracts

We’re never going to hear any truth again, when they do find a manager who has no say in transfers and might have to wait two seasons for replacement players, when he’s asked any question about anything that’s not on the approved list he’s just going to say ‘I don’t get involved in that’. Instead of the club giving us no reason to disbelieve them and providing a manager with the tools to give an honest interview, they’d rather give him a list of things he’s not allowed to talk about.

If Charnley believes that they were communicating maybe he was right.

However, when club communications come from a manager who’s credibility is questioned by fans, then it’s never going to be taken seriously and disregarded.

If Charnley earnestly wants to communicate, then he needs to think seriously about the vehicle for that communication. A club’s Head Coach will not be perceived as a figure of authority when it comes to matters concerning things which are out of his sphere of control. Transfers and transfer policy are prime examples of such topics.

Charnley needs to recognise the importance of good communications and either man-up and deliver it or formally give the task to someone who does and will be able to speak with authority.

Asking a Head Coach to be the Club’s mouthpiece is simply unfair on the incumbent and abdicating responsibility on Ashley and Charnley’s behalf.

Other club chairman speak to the media, why not ours? Could it be because they’re frightened of the potential for backlash from what they’ve got to say.

Charnley may be a shy little bunny, but as MD, CEO whatever his title he’ll be getting well paid for, he must accept that communication is a key part of his role.

If he’s not up to going public, then he’s not fit to be in the position he’s in.

So if they say something they are damned if they don’t they are damned.

The only thing missing was regarding goals. But if they had said CL we would’ve laughed. And surely nobody ever said let’s be mediocre. If anyone did, he is an idiot. The only one I remember is AP. He’s setting himself similar goals elsewhere.

    lesh,
What ever people on here think of Pardew, from what I gather the majority of footballs media think that Pardew had his hands tied and that he was hamstrung and hung out to dry on numerous occasions by Mike Ashley. This will not be lost on any future managers considering taking the job and after Charnleys ‘interview’ I bet a few alarm bells have been sent ringing, PR has never really been Mashers strong point.

Cyrpus…They will always find themselves in a damned if they do, damned if they don’t position until they actually start producing on what they say.

Very few believe anything they say anymore. That’s not because that’s how we like it, but 7 years experience.

They have missed opportunity after opportunity to make actual proper gestures, rather than just words.

For me, it just shows a lack of care towards the fanbase. They may well think we’re all stupid and expect too much, but is there really a need for them to treat us that way?

If he’s not up to going public, then he’s not fit to be in the position he’s in.

The major cause of ineffective club communication derives from the owner, Ashley who’s perceived as a greedy, untrustworthy individual who appears to have no on the field ambition for the club.

Ashley has a lot to answer for and is the root of fan scepticism. He needs to demonstrate some empathy with the fans and demonstrate some ambition by buying Loic Remy for example rather than borrowing him.

Now if Ashley wants to tidy up the club’s image, he needs to tidy up his own as a start.
His PR person, Bullshit Bishop has a major job on his hands with Ashley and if he can do a job with him, then he’s up for running an ISIS charm offensive.

Charnley needs to get a grip of reality and get his backside along to the Fan Forum and go there to listen and hear and participate rather than stonewall and be negative, acting as an Ashley messenger.
