It seems that 44 year-old Frank de Boer may still become the head coach at Newcastle in the summer, with news tonight that Newcastle have made an approach to the Ajax manager.
Frank and Ronald de Boer
Ronald is the twin brother of Frank, and he is currently the assistant manager of the Ajax Youth Academy.
Ronald has been interviewed by Sky Sports News and this is what he said:
“They asked if you’re interested in maybe coming to Newcastle and Frank said ‘not at this moment’.” “He’s not discussing anything now, not even Newcastle. Even if a club comes, he’s not talking.”
That response from Frank to Newcastle is hardly surprising, since it’s almost exactly what he told Tottenham last April, when they were looking for a new head coach, but appointed former Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino last summer.
Only yesterday Frank on Sky Sports was saying that he wouldn’t rule anything out in the summer, and that included possibly taking the head coach position at Newcastle, and if it means waiting until the summer to get Frank in – Newcastle would be short-sighted not to do that.
After a fantastic career as a footballer, Frank went into coaching with Ajax, where he had started his playing career.
In 2007, Frank began his coaching career with the Ajax and he was put in charge of the club’s Youth Academy, and got the head coach job in late 2010 when Martin Jol suddenty resigned.
Frank has won four successive Dutch Championships with Ajax, and that’s the first time that has ever been achieved.
We think Frank would be a terrific choice for Newcastle – if we can get him.

Comment #42For the year ending June 2013 NUFC reported an after tax profit of £9.9m.
For the year ending June 2014 adding the increased turnover (recently reported and due mainly to increased tv money) to that £10 mil making around £40 mil profit in total (pre-tax).
The year ending June 2015 is looking very similar, so looking at another £40mil.
That’s going to total approx. £90 million over the last 3 years.
Some people are taking the p on here trying to smudge the figures. Our wage bill hasn’t increased nor any other major expenses and we buy generally from money generated from player sales.

Comment #46People went crazy about FDB but I am not too optimistic on him.I haven’t watched Ajax games for long time but Ajax FC itself
is a sleeping giant. They have number one
Fb academy and produced some world class players for the last 10yrs or so.They should have been one of biggest club in the world. They sell their best players for good value but they won’t buy good players back. The money is reinvested back in youth academy or setup. No ambition to win cups outside Holland. This recycled for many years now.So what do we call them now? profit making organizxn ?
Frank was Ajax youth team coach, just like Garde. Then took over Ajax first team in 2010,
won 4 consecutive Dutch league title. But the league standard is poor there than the french league.I don’t think he has a good game setup. He plays typical straight forward Fb with good passing but usually struggle when he face different team, esp in European competition. If he come here,he may acquire good Ajax players and also can acquire good players in other leagues as well, but like I said,he is not tactician and will struggle when he face different teams. He is untested in other leagues.I don’t think he is world class coach as some expect but he is in equal mold with Keoman, Enrigue,Garde etc…
Still prefer Galtier ( Tactician) or
Tuchel (the new Jurgen Klopp)all day long
But I feel we may end up with
Garde or Frank Db!!

Comment #47Ok, so there is a profit that hasn’t been reinvested in full yet, and a greater profit pending. Not defending Ashley. Just trying to see things as they are.

Comment #48The £100 million “loan” after MA took over is well documented.
I have seen nothing to indicate that this is being repaid, for the moment, and I am more or less OK with the idea of free advertising in lieu of interest.
So, what about the losses when we were relegated?
Serious question – how much did they amount to?
I have seen posts on other threads that seem to indicate some posters believe that parachute payments compensate for this. Delude yourselves if you wish, but relegation costs multi-millions.
It was MA’s decisions that led to our relegation but, as with any business, you look to good decisions to make up for the bad ones.
You can’t argue that MA should fund the losses from relegation from his own pocket unles you accept that he can pocket all profits that arise from good ones.
As I see it, MA is keeping the costs of transfers in and out at evens and using the profits to pay back the costs of relegation.
I don’t have a problem with that in principle, although I would prefer to see more ambition and repayments over a longer period.

Your nostalgic picture of scenes of the past and the people’s game doesn’t completely inspire me 🙂 Like an old school rock concert, the chance of getting a bottle thrown on your head, or somebody’s vomit on your shoes, or in a good fight, does add aura and an edge and even excitement. But, in truth, it’s good that PL football has moved from that.
Local pub games still feature some of that, if you’re interested 😉 And you get to watch that nostalgic level of football too!

Comment #50Oh, and I concur with A-C’s comments above regarding the £11 million that was repaid some time ago and the £18 million that was due to be repaid more recently, but deferred as the money was not there.
As long as the far greater profit this last financial year (results predicted but not finalised) also go to pay off the relegation costs, I don’t have a big argument.
It may be frustrating that a multi-billionaire owner doesn’t have the same ambitions as us, but that’s life.
And – I wouldn’t really be comfortable with an owner a la Chelski/ManC/PSG (although I would be happy to volunteer to polish any cups!)

Comment #51No matter what people think that Mashers policies are for the good the bottom line is that he isn’t bothered if we win a trophy or not, that should be a concern to any fan.

Comment #52I would love to think that those speculating about the signs being given off by Ashley are right, that he may be losing interest inNufc? If so, then why not give him a little more of a shove in the right direction? Keep away from Sports direct. A campaign of No buying of the next home shirt. Publicise it, talk to all your friends and families, colleagues. And most of all, don’t renew those season tickets. You could still even go to selected games when it suits.ts rarely sold out in advance now anyway. If nothing else its registering your discontent

Ha yeah, obviously there was a tongue in cheek element to the ole nostalgia. But what I was saying was at least there was soul in it. Owners and some managers were annoying in those days too of course.
Aye, I do go and watch non league, local and even kids’ football and its great. But the toon is what I grew up with, infected by being taken by a family member at a tender age. I won’t stop hankering for a day when the players, the club and the fans have a connection and at least some similar desires. Its just in me…
I do wonder when I look around SJP on my occasional visits, what people are getting out of it at the moment.

I don’t believe that MA doesn’t want to win a trophy, but at what cost?
Would you accept an FA cup at the expense of relegation?
I wouldn’t.
And it’s happened quite often.
I don’t see that problem of qualifying for EL.
We can play the youngsters in the early rounds, as we did last time we qualified. Not big money, but I don’t think we would be out of pocket, and we wouldn’t compromise our PL status.
Later rounds can be taken as they come, depending on circumstances.
We have a good squad with some deficiencies, notable CBs, CF and Coach..
We would not be far away from EL qualification were it not for injuries.

How many times has the FA Cup winner been relegated same season? Since the Prem started, once. Wigan a couple of years ago. For finalists relegated, there is just Boro and Wigan in the Prem history.
Don’t buy into the nonsense the club said in their forum.
League cup has a slightly more troubled, but still not bad enough to say cup finals lead to relegation often.

Comment #57Head coach will have a say on signings, but not the final say! So basically Carr makes all signings aye? Then why give us bollox of we’re saving any signings for the summer so the new head coach gets the full benefit! Sureley He would get more benefit of a squad that had bonded over half a season?

I’ll take that on board.
I don’t have stats.
FWIW I was NOT happy with the setup against Leicester this year, although I think the failures of previous years were down to our poor performances rather than weak team selection.

Id accept the league cup and relegation, never mind the FA cup. Because you know what, I’d have a lovely memory of a day out at Wembley in the sunshine and the joy of seeing my team lift a trophy. And when I’m old and dying in my bed it will be that memory, not the relegation of a few years back or any relegation to come, that will be with me in my final moments. Those images will warm me in the December days of my life.

I don’t get where you are coming from about the loan.
There was a 70mil bank loan when ashley took over which the ub were paying off year by year. Instead ashley loaned us the money which he then doubled due to the losses around relegation (which he oversaw) so the club owed him 140mil (now 129 as he took 11 back)
If he were to sell the club he’d want the value of the club and the value of the loan, making us less interesting to buy.
He claims advertising as the club say they can’t sell it (nothing to do with interest on his loan as people say. Check the fans forum minutes the club published).
So what he has done is come in, doubled our debt despite earnings from tv doubling in that time, has no real structure at all to pay this debt off and he benefite from free advertising at the expense of the club.
That’s the truth of it all.

I’m totally with you on a cup and getting relegated.
Something our club also fail to mention when discussing this is that the teams who have been involved in finals and gone down were the teams people had been predicting to be relegated anyway.
Why don’t they imply the reverse logic. Some of the teams who have won the cup have also won the league and gotten into the top 4. It’s an equally as stupid statement to make.
