Newcastle Linked With Peru International Forward

There is a report in the Portuguese newspaper A Bola,  that Newcastle United are interested in signing Sporting Lisbon winger/striker Andre Carrillo in January.

Andre Carrillo – 23 year-old Sporting Lisbon forward

The 23 year-old is certainly the right age,  and he can play as an out-and-out striker or as a winger,  so he is quite versatile, and the report is that Newcastle are willing to offer €10M (£7.5M) to the Lisbon club for the player.

Carrillo joined Sporting Lisbon from Alianza Lima in Peru in the summer of 2011,  and signed a five year deal at that time, and he has so far made 139 appearances for the Lisbon side, scoring 14 goals and having 29 assists, so that’s a decent enough record for the 5’11” tall forward.

This season he has six goals and 11 assists in 26 appearances for Sporting Lisbon.

Andre started his senior career back in 2009 with Peruvian side Alianza Lima, and he played 20 games for Alianza with 3 goals and 2 assists before moving to Lisbon.

Newcastle have been linked with Sporting Lisbon winger Diego Capel for about a year now, but the 26 year-old has not been playing well this season, and perhaps Carrillo is the one Newcastle scouts have been watching all along.

In March of 2011 Carrillo made his debut for Peru and so far he has 21 caps with one goal for his country.

The news from Portugal is that Sporting Lisbon only own half the rights to the player, and they are pushing for more than €10M – but we’d be surprised if Newcastle are willing to go much higher than €10M for the 23 year-old.

We would be surprised if we buy anybody for anything. A club with no soul.

What in the crickets… I’m used to paper talk linking players to us but actually stating that we have bid. Its seems we have bid for 3-4 players this week after we said we wouldn’t.
I don’t know what to believe. They don’t usually go as far as actually bids being made. NUFC must be testing the waters with these bids then…

I am not buying this link one minute…maybe Penfold is trying to give us some hope (something to cling to)

…how about buying a physical CB or a prolific goal scorer

We are hoping we buy nobody. We think we have bought enough crap for one season (Cabella and Riviere totalling about 16 million) and we think the shitty buyers at the club need a rest. We think we have bought two or three good players in the last few years (Cabaye, Debuchy, Sissoko) who we sell on on for a profit and lots of crap players. Usually French. We think the crap buyers, whoever they are, need a rest until the summer so they can recharge their batteries and buy more crap players.
