88% of our readers don’t want to see John Carver appointed as the permanent head coach, with over 9,500 fans voting, and John doesn’t get much better results about being head coach through the end of the season.
John Carver – fans don’t want him as head coach – either way
To be fair to Newcastle, we are assuming this appointment is only through the end of the season, and that will enable the club to appoint a top coach at the end of the season, when a lot more coaches of quality will be available.
And we are also assuming that Lee Charnley will have done his homework and already have a coach lined up in case John cannot get the results for Newcastle and we drift too close to the relegation zone – it’s called planning for things that may happen in the future – in other works – planning 101.
Here are the two polls we put out on John – the first one was put out January 2nd.
And here is the poll we put out on 13th January – unlucky for some – asking whether you wanted John as the caretaker manager through the end of the season.
There still to vote in both polls if you haven’t already done so – one vote per reader.
Since John has the job through the end of the season (assuming we don’t get into any trouble with relegation), we hope Newcastle fans will support him as the head coach.
Things are not good at the moment at Newcastle, we know that, but we just have to hope we’ll make a stellar appointment in the summer.
And a win at Hull on Saturday would certainly help.

Comment #81I don’t want him either. I don’t want him this way, I don’t want him that way. I don’t want him in a car. I don’t want him at the bar. I don’t like him with a ball. I don’t like him when we fall. Does he please you when he goes? Does he suck the owner’s toes? Only Dr. Seuss really knows.

It’s all a big sick joke, there’s no De Boer or Garde coming in, they’re praying Carver can guide us to about 13th to tenth so that they can say he deserves another shot at a top ten finish.

Comment #83Odds are we’ll stay up. I think we’ll keep our best players unless someone bids £21m for Socks and then hopefully we’ll get a decent manager in the summer. I wish everyone would relax a bit and stop screaming Fat Cockney Ba@@ard all the time. By all means be angry about the things he has done, but being angry about the things he might do is getting old.

You could well be right there. We know he can’t resist doing the very thing that the fans want the least.
Sick to death of the ongoing Pardew arguments. All it takes is one post and out come the dormant case files.
But the fact is, it turns out we’d probably have been better off if Pardew had stayed til the end of the season, Ashley continued his evil preparations and sold up in the summer. New owner to appoint a proper replacement. Instead of this mess.
Say what you like but you’ll not convince me we’re not in more danger of relegation with Carver in charge. And as for being willing to accept relegation for change – thats just ridiculous. Its imperative we don’t go down. If we do its threatening to become another Leeds!

Comment #89Why are we after another centre mid….its the one position on the pitch we actually have plenty of cover.
Good to see us target areas where we might make a profit and not where we actually need support.

Comment #92Sing @ 84. I think you’re right (“we’d probably have been better off if Pardew had stayed til the end of the season”). It’s a fair bet that one of the very good reasons he wanted to go so much was the poison that was aimed at him by some idiot fans. People should try being a bit more measured. Most of those left commenting on here don’t even know what that word means. Moderate voices get shouted down and the mob takes over.

Comment #93I don’t want Carver but I want him to do very well. He genuinely cares about the club and has made the right noises about how he wants to play.
I don’t think he has it in him, and he isn’t a name which will attract players to the club, but I want him to succeed.

Comment #100TS @95 I suspect that has a lot to do with it. Ash will pocket a nice bit of dosh in the summer on Tiote and Sissoko and spend 4 or 5 M on a young midfielder. That should leave him with at least 15M profit. Very tidy.

The inept ones results over the four years he was here speak for themselves mate. Carver may end up being worse, but he could surprise us all too.

TS is what I’d call a moderate mate he doesn’t get shouted down, the issue I have with the pardew love fest is that after 4 years he leaves us in the very same position as when he took over. I’ve made my opinion on him based over that period, it wasn’t something that came to me over night mate.
You write down all the pros and cons of his time here and I bet you get more cons than pros….I’m off catch up tomorrow.

Comment #106There was no option to keep Pardew until the summer, he was here for the long-term.
He went after Palace agreed compensation or he stayed…
The team already looks improved under Carver… how anybody could be pining for Pardew truly amazes me.

Comment #109Why would Ashley employ an ambitious manager when the only ambition he has is for the club is to stay in PL. In my mind the next bloke will be a second rate yes man.Best to think that way as to not be disappointed.Agree with many on here.

I worry about what I’ve seen from some of Carver’s tactics and substitutions as well though. I don’t think its right that Pardew has been blamed, after he left, for how Carver has set up, for some of the niavity he has shown because he was his assistant. Surely he was in an ideal position to hit the ground running, having watched how Pardew ‘got it wrong’ for so long. He’s worked with the players for ages. No excuse not to get it right fro the off more or less? And the results have been awful since he took over, Now he has the helm? Wgat a waste of time its all been

We’ve had plenty of bad managers, pardew no worse than a fair few, the problem is he didn’t play great football and was so far up Premier Mashers backside it was laughable.
The football was dreadful to watch the majority of the time and when he did stumble on a working system he’d change back to the old ways as soon as he could, some players could play bad for months and not have to worry about being dropped.
Some things, like cups, weren’t entitely his fault as even carver had to field a severely weekend team but a lot was his fault.
It’s Ashleys fault we are in this situation, not pardew, not carver, no Charnley and not the fans. He makes yes men appointments in key areas just to make his life easy, we need to stand against him.

Comment #114Firebug. I didn’t say I wanted to keep Pardew or that you are/were an idiot. I said some of the poison that Pardew was subjected to was out of order and that the people that dished that out are/were idiots.
Anyway, that ship has sailed, for better or worse. If someone offered me £3-4m to take him I’d have snapped their hands off just like MA, with or without a replacement planned. I’d have taken the gamble just like MA.
