Newcastle Offer International Midfielder To Arsenal

The Mail is reporting that Arsenal have turned down the chance to sign Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote in Jnauary.

Cheick Tiote – in Ivory Coast colors

There was news in the summer that Arsenal were interested in signing Cheick, who is currently on International duty for the Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations.

The Mail says that Cheick Tiote has been offered to the Gunners and Newcastle want the deal completed before Monday’s night’s deadline, when the January transfer window slams shut.

It’s likely that Newcastle will sell Cheick in the summer, since he has not been in good form for Newcastle this season, although Arsene Wenger is looking for a strong midfield player who will give the Arsenal midfield some bite – which it doesn’t have at the moment.

However, Francis Coquelin was recalled from his loan spell at Charlton Athletic in early December,  and the 23 year-old French U21 International has played extremely well for Arsenal in defensive midfield over the last several weeks.

And maybe that is one reason Wenger seems not to be interested in Tiote.

The fee being quoted for Tiote is around £12M – and we paid £3.5M for him in the summer of 2010 when we signed the 48 times capped Ivory Coast International from FC Twente, after he had been scouted for a couple of years by Newcastle Chief  Scout Graham Carr.

We don’t know if it’s true that Newcastle have really offered Cheick to Arsenal – we doubt it – but it wouldn’t surprise us too much if he moves on in the summer.

Cheick’s contract at Newcastle runs out in June of 2017.

    Off to market;
    Pick up a bit of young, cheap livestock;
    Bring them back home;
    Fatten them up for a season or two;
    Sell them on back at market for a good profit
    and then start all over again… going to market …..
    I wonder whether John Calver realises that he is nothing more than Head Shepherd … and not Head Coach.
    Poor bugger … what a fool.

    Tiote is far too slow for Arsenals quick flowing football and hes worth no where near 12mil

    It’s not Newcastle offering Tiote to Arsenal it will be his agent -that is what they do.

    Wenger has decided to wait until summer for Morgan Schneiderlin who will cost 3 times as much but is 10 times better

    The actual story in the press said discussions had been held between Tiote’s agent and Arsenal, with a view to them signing Tiote this window. Arsenal said they will wait until summer to get a “Top Notch” player on board.

    Might be a clever ploy. Offer them Tiote then hopefully they will forget about Moussa.

    the bookies have them as slight favourites and most pundits (I’ve seen three) have it down as 2-1…

    Lawro’s prediction: 2-1
    Mark’s prediction: I don’t really know much about the other matches apart from Chelsea’s, so basically I sat with my little brothers Dave and Justin and went through it with them because they are both football fanatics, and one of them is an amazing mathematician. A lot of work has gone into these answers, looking at statistics and averages and things like that. We came up with a draw for this one. 2-2

    I am also going with a draw. Would love a win. Settle the nerves.

    And so it starts? The fat, greedy slug is desperate for more money he is now offering players to other clubs, I swear this pig would sell Ol’ Grandma Ashley if it meant an extra couple of quid in his sky rocket.

    I think Ashley should sell Sissoko as he would get a lot more for him than Tiote. Selling both would be good business and the boss could replace them in the summer with some Frenchies. The boss knows how to maximise profits and stay in the league. We should be grateful for his business acumen and the saving of the Toon. Every day under his guidance is a blessing.

    wenger should get Harrison Reed from Southampton he closes players down very quickly and gives the ball to people who can cause problems. The lad is a future England player without a doubt
