America Beckons For This Disappointed And Sad Star

Hatem Ben Arfa has made his statement today, and the good thing is that he has not announced his retirement, which was one of the things rumored last night after his agent had said the Frenchman was contemplating retirement, but he has announced he is leaving Nice.

Ben Arfa – when things were going well at Newcastle

FIFA refused to let him play for Nice this season, after he had played for Hull and played one game for the Newcastle U21 game and FIFA classified that as an official game – which was simply ridiculous, but Nice lost their appeal to the FIFA.

Players are only allowed to play for a maximum of two different clubs in one season.

This is what the 27 year-old has said today:

“Today I’m finished with Nice, but maybe that won’t be for ever. I want to thank everyone here – it’s a real regret that I can’t continue, but sometimes you have to accept it and move on.”

“Today I’ll try to be positive and see what I can do. On Monday I was on the floor but coming in to training today has made me feel better. Now I just have to do the best I can for the future.”

“The solution may be to go abroad. Would I go to Russia? I’m ready to go to the North Pole just to play football again. But for now I can’t really speculate – I just have to think.”

“I won’t say I’m sick of French football, because there are good people here – I’m just disappointed and sad.”

There have been some rumors that Ben Arfa may try his luck in the MLS over here in the US.

Certainly he would be huge hit in America, and players with the abilities of a Ben Arfa are what the MLS are looking for – it’s called entertainment.

ben arfa very sad

A sad Ben Arfa today

And the MLS season will start shortly, so maybe he is negotiating a deal with an MLS club – which is why he has left Nice?

It would be a good move for Ben Arfa, and he could make some decent money in the US – and could become a star again?

We really hope this lad can recreate his career somewhere – anywhere!

Ah good, a whole new continents worth of managers to fall out with. He will be a good player there, if he ever sorts his head out (i have my doubts)

Why would he be sick of French football? Wasn’t it Fifa who blocked the move?

Anyway, Benny has been covered to death. Don’t you dare leave us with this thread Ed 🙂

Do they have football teams in the North Pole? Perhaps he can start his own and achieve global domination. Speaking of domination….you got your keks mark.

Funnily, Dominica IS one of the endless supply of middle names I was burdened with. It’s the one I never talk about 🙂

Wasn’t it the keks and not the mask his cheeks stretched lmfao. Or are they the cheek baring kind with plenty of “give”

Ok I’ll stop now as I’m feeling slightly nauseous.

Seconding Ibizatoon on the thread topic Ed.
If we are left with a fifteen millionth rehash of what the Crystal Palace manager did or didn’t do to this unemployed French footballer, people will start making their own entertainment round here.

Now following the Lampard method, he could ‘go’ to the MLS and then be loaned to Citeh ala Lampard

Welcome! I just remembered when I once changed my nickname, I got blocked out whilst the change was checked by Ed…he was quick this time!

Lesh…Would he still not have played for two teams? Lampards situation was / is a little different.

What bugs me about their ruling is that even if he came back to NUFC, he’d only be able to play for the reserves (if they’re going to swear by their own rules). Whatever you think of Ben Arfa, FIFA have took the utter p!ss out of him here.

    Jeff,

I don’t know. I was only 12 or 13 at the time, and just did as I was told.
It was something to do with the Dominicans I think, and St Beatrice, who was the newest saint at the time (or one of them).

Thump…Rules are are well and good, but sometimes common sense needs to prevail. Sadly, that never seems to be the case with Fifa.

It’s interesting that remi streete can play for our under 21’s, Port Vale and has now been loaned to Rangers. Isn’t that 3 clubs? Or is it different in the same vain as they can loan 5 players? Murky to say the least, dastardly at best.

    Maybe because streete is under-21?

And it’s not an emergency loan either, well it wasn’t stated as such by either us or Rangers. I find it strange. I hope he’s broken rules and gets held accountable.

Highly unlikely though because he’ll just claim no knowledge of the deal. Fat slug.

@Ibiza: I think Jeff may have an excellent point. This isn’t common sense, it’s a shoulder chip that Platini is nursing. Say what you like about the French, but they tend to have long memories and adore grudges.

In all honesty, though, you could list of French managers and higher ups and when named in conjunction to Ben Arfa, you can probably assume there’s been a tiff at some point or another.

    Sorry I should of explained.

Like the tom Ince transfer to derby. Even though he’s played for 3 clubs – hull, forest and now derby he got dispensation because it was an “emergency loan”

What’s the betting Streete’s will turn into the same “emergency loan” once someone cottons on.
