Galtier’s Future At St. Etienne Is Increasingly Uncertain

St. Etienne captain Loic Perrin doesn’t know whether his head coach Christophe Galtier will be at the club next season.

Christophe Galtier -Saint-Etienne

Christophe Galtier – over five years at St. Etienne

St. Etienne are 4th top of the French League but are now 7 points behind 3rd placed PSG after they have lost their last two games 1-0 – at home to PSG on January 26th and at Caen on Sunday.

It’s interesting that Frank de Boer’s Ajax have also lost their last two Dutch League games 1-0.

St. Etienne are now 9 points behind top of the table Lyon.

Galtier has been with the head coach position at Newcastle, but has said very little about it other than he will be at his current club through the ed of the season.

Club captain Perrin does not know if his head coach will remain at St. Etienne for next season:

“I do not know if he will still be there next season,” “I think it depends on results, ambitions, maybe offers.”

“Given the fact that he has done a good job it would not surprise me if he is approached.” “But then, he’s good here.”

The Marseilles born 48 year-old Galtier has been at St. Etienne since 2009, and has done an excellent job with little money available at the French club,  but he has managed to get the very best out of the players he has available.

That’s a top requirement at Newcastle, since he will not be much involved with players being brought into the club and those who are  sold.

But that’s no different than his current situation at St. Etienne.

Christophe would seem to be  a good choice for the Newcastle head coach position in the summer, and certainly better than the two current favorites Steve McClaren (6/4) of Derby County and caretaker manager John Carver (3/1).

Galtier is currently down the list at 20/1 in 10th place in the betting on SkyBet.

    Oh man Ed!

So what you are telling us is that something that bloke doesn’t know about is EVEN MORE unlikely to happen than something no-one talks about?

    Nighty bye bloggers.

No one currently in position will want to think about this until the end of May 2015 at the earliest.
Please put FdB out of your mind , there is no chance of his coming to SJP
    I see it as this
Carver has the whip hand and is currently favourite , however having the whip hand (mixing my metaphors) could be a 2 edged sword if he fails to get decent results.
2nd favourite is S McClaren because of his contacts and dealings with NUFC in the past.
After these 2 there are many games before decision time and much could change and candidates not even thought of could emerge.
In short – it’s Carvers to cock up.

Think we’re nailed on to take McLaren! Wouldn’t shock me if its already agreed! Hes close friends with Carr so chances are at least he’ll want the players we sign unlike pardew!
The joke of it is Derby (who i fully expect Schteve to get promoted) will probably go out and appoint a manager wed have wanted.
De Boer has defintely got his eyes on Barca! If he wanted to be newcastle manager hed be here already! ajax season has been over since December. PSV are miles ahead and personally i think cocu is a better shout for manager

Sorry, but nothing is ‘nailed on’. Nothing, that is, except JC until May. Anything else is unhelpful, pure speculation – and probably wrong.

No decent manager/coach will want to come to Newcastle as there’s too much bad press now the whole world sees us as a joke club with no ambition.

Actually it’s quite unique for an owner to use a PL club as a cash cow. Even Ashley expected to have to plough in 20 mil a season.

Very depressing when you are a rich club but don’t want success!

We’ve got JC till the fat man sells up and as long as we’re mid table PL he ain’t gonna sell up! Catch 22 ! There must be a way! This can’t go on ffs !
