I Have Had No Contact With Newcastle

The St. Etienne head coach Christophe Galtier has been strongly linked with the Newcastle head coach job since late December, and it was rumored that some of the Newcastle hierarchy – maybe Chief Scout Graham Carr –  thought he would make a good head coach for Newcastle.

Christophe GALTIER

Christophe Galtier – no approach from Newcastle

And in early January when Newcastle were being linked with the French coach,  St. Etienne slammed the reports saying they simply were not true.

Christophe has been interviewed by beIN sports, and he has made a little bit of a mockery of the stories linking him with the Newcastle job.

This is some of that he has said:

“I have not had any discussion or any approach from Newcastle.”  “I read this when I was on vacation. My kids sent me a text in English for a laugh and I didn’t understand. The text said ‘read the papers!’”

“I have had no contact with Newcastle and I am not out of contract, my only goal is to succeed in St.Etienne . The rumours of my departure to Marseille? More fantasies peddled by some. I’m not going to Marseilles – period. “

And Galtier only last week said a similar thing to RMC, that there had been no contact between him and Newcastle:

“No, I have not been contacted,” “I am under contract, so my future can go through St. Etienne. “Things are very clear between my leaders and me.”

If we are to believe these reports (and why wouldn’t we?), Newcastle have not contacted either St. Etienne or Christophe Galtier about the head coach position at Newcastle.

And while we were linked with a number of continental coaches like Frank de Boer and Remi Garde among others when it was clear that Pardew was leaving in late December, it’s now beginning to look like Mike Ashley may stick with appointing another Englishman to the vacant position in the summer.

Maybe Steve McClaren or John Carver – or somebody right out of the blue – which is exactly what happened with the appointment of Alan Pardew in December of 2010.

What do you think?

Carvew has the job and will keep it unless he messes up spectacularly, which I can’t see , if he gets us between 15th and 8th he will have succeeded in the slugs plan.
If by some miracle he gets them playing incredibly well and looking like European qualification is possible, he will be told to try some of the kids to see if they’re good enough, and if they’re still doing well , hel be told to only start with 9 players in case they get injuries.
We don’t want to be in that European competition do we John

    We won’t be relegated.
Even if we end the season bottom of the form table.
John will be credited with doing his best in difficult circumstances.
Then, perhaps after a cursory “search” for a replacement taking a month or two, he’ll be given until Christmas to see what more he can get out of the promising squad of existing players he knows and works with well.
Or maybe we’ll bring in Frank de Boer, spend £30m on players and blast off from the profitable launchpad we have patiently and skilfully assembled after waiting seven years to strike when the time was right.

I’m sure the club’s medical staff are told to have different ‘fitness’ criteria for cup games.

This will cover the club from any disrepute charges.

Aim some flack at the club’s doctor. It is his/her signature that says whether a player is available for Carver to select.

What we are seeing here is what we all feared! No one was interview for the position. Penfold never said they had interviewed any, just that they had had 80 applications!

…lets face it those applicant could be fellow bloggers and just Ian’s alias 😉

JC will be head coach – Ed, why do you keep on thinking McClaren will come?

Well well well; So all the talk on here for the past week has been directed at Ashley, (rightly so), and as the hate for him begins to build up pops Carver with a doozy of an interview, that plonks him directly in the firing line between the fans and Ashley, (well done Bishop).

All the talk has now swung to Carver.

Last time when all the talk was about boycotting and protests it got deflected by Charnley’s Chronicle interview.

Carver will be told what he can and cannot say at these interviews, and no doubt Bendy Wendy will be on hand to cut out anything not on the agenda.

There is a pattern here, and it is always designed to protect the Fat Man at the top.

Once again the Head coach has sold his integrity for 30 pieces of silver and the NUFC job.

On Santon, as I said last night the club will have been sweating on getting him fit for January, as he will have already been earmarked for sale.

At times the usual suspects on here really remind me of the plotters in “Life of Brian” the anti roman front for palestine or whatever they were called.
Working each other up into a frenzy of fury against gawd knows what !
Even quite erudite and clearly well educated people like BandB get caught up in it.
People in groups are quite strange.

What I don’t do is to make knowingly specious comparisons like the one you made this morning suggesting that Carver’s Sossoko statement was no different logically from Wenger’ welcoming Ramsey as a new signing after a prolonged injury.
You yourself know it is a specious argument. But you deployed it knowing other’s on the blog would buy it.
Which makes you a very shrewd propagandist.

So much for ambition – SNAFU, nowt’ll change as long as Ashley’s got control.

Jesper – Could be anyone who ends up in the job but Id put my money on Shteve as first choice – think he is interested too whether Derby go up or not.If JC has a good end to the season though he could get it i suppose.

Think the Purples plan is what we are still going to see with regards our team. I think if we are going to keep wanting to break even each year, then without the revenue from Europe etc then this way is the only way to do it.

However the only way it will work is if we get a group of kids come through together who are good enough to handle the PL so it allows rotation without jeopardising the PL status.

In the past few seasons the kids havent been good enough to do this so the cups were sacrificed. Now with the amount of kids coming through who have already contributed this season in the PL, I think next year we will see the club make a go of the cups and possibly Europa without the fear factor of the consequences of extra games.

or it means they can sell more first teamers and let the kids take there place keeping the squad thin and unable to compete in the cups because they don’t make the club enough money

Jonas santon raylor mbiwa left already do you think they will be replaced plus who ever we sell in the summer sissoko tiote. and any1 with one year left on there deal that we can shift

There’s a flaw in that plan, I don’t know of any PL club that has a clutch of players coming through that can play at PL standard. The problem is LOYALTY.

When a player has developed enough to be in contention for the first team, he either wants a new pro contract with his club, or he will move to another club.

For this reason development squads a changing all the time. Clubs manage to bring through one or two who they deen first team players, the rest are moved on to make room for younger players to develop.

Streete is already eyeing a contract with Rangers, and Bigi has already stated his intent to look farther afield if he cannot get first team footy.

Jeff’s MO has always been to suggest that all debate, dissent and argument is contemptible and laughable and utterly pointless in face of the power of Ashley.
Which he why he evokes the comparison of the Life of Brian, and why he knows it will stick.
Unlike a lot of people on here, I have never tried to dismiss Jeff as thick. He argues his corner very shrewdly.

Raylor left already?? Better tell him not to travel with the squad on Sunday then…

jonas – sorry but he hasnt contributed as a winger for years – much happier him leaving and us haveing Cabella, Sammy, Aarons, Obertan, Perez as options for the wings.

Santon – considering our wages limitations, no point having a reserve taking home 40k a week – for me makes sense to get rid, bring a young guy as backup to Haidara and use the wages saved from HBA/MYM/Jonas/Santon etc to put towards a decent CB and CF ideally.

Not saying we will defs get them in as I know how unreliable our management are.

Time will tell, if we see what you are saying in the summer then I will agree, im just willing to wait and see what happens as I think we are in a slightly different shape this summer compared to the last few.

our problem with developing kids is getting them out onloan the squads so thin there kept on the bench with us
look at Sammy he is 22 and only played about 54 first team games he made his debut 2010-11 season that’s really poor amount of games when he has played around 18 this season
the same thing is happening to Armstrong and others

My take on the squad right now is:

    Krul/Janmaat/Colo/Saylor/Haidara/Tiote/Colback/Sissoko /Cabella/SDJ/Cisse.

Before this season how many other players did we have in our squad, the younger ones, that we would be confident could hack it in the PL? Very few, some had potential but there was no guarantee they would be able to.

For me, added to the purples I think we have the following who have shown at times this season that they are at the level where they can come into the side and handle it:

    Elliot (?)/Willo/Dummett/Abeid/Anita/Obertan/Aarons /Sammy/Perez/Abeid/Raylor

then there is Riviere, Arma, Gouffran who are neither here nor there right now and Lascelles and Darlow to see how they are etc

For me, i think our squad is better for depth now than previously.

Yes we still need a CF and ideally a dominant CB to replace Colo but the core of the squad have now shown they can handle it whereas at the beginning of the season there were big question marks hanging over a lot of them.

Street, bigi etc Im not event counting, same Jonas, Satka, Good.

JD – whilst 40K is a hell of a lot a week it is a pittance to any team that has ambitions – you know speculate to accumulate. I find it sad that people on hear are more bothered about the finances than success on the pitch – I guess getting Messi in for £100M would be seen as a backward step for you!!

100% agree with you, we do not develop the players in the right way, The Rangers five for example should have been on loan all season.

It true mate Ashley’s profit will come first. His idea is not to buy first team players, but to buy the cheaper development players and bring them through, but that is a huge risk, and the result of that thinking show in the poor cover our squad has especially after January.

He will only buy first team players (purples) out of desperation rather than out of need. In the summer we will lose some and bring in a couple (maybe), but I suspect we shall also sign some development players as we look to lose a few at the end of this season.

raylor out of contract end of the season do you think he will be replaced

there wont be a top defender or striker bought into the club

at the beginning of the summer we still had10mill profit sat there we then spent what we made if you believe the club, this jan we have saved loads on wages and recouped 8 mill so where is this centre back we need or the striker there is cash there and that’s not including the extra tv cash
so the fee is there, there’s room in the wages budget where are the players???

were a team that leak goals and struggle to score its not like there not needed
ashley is hoping we finish below 10th so he don’t have to pay out the bonuses

I dont mind the fact that we are looking to stay as a club that will break even every year and that we spend what we can afford.

Why would it make sense to have a 1st choice defender on 15k and the reserve sat there on 40k when that wage could be better used in an area where we dont have cover – ie CF or CB.

Until our revenues pick up that we can afford to have people sitting around earning that much without playing then I dont think its a bad idea to move them on.

Considering we also have jonas, Raylor, gouffran, Anita allegedly earning more than 35k a week and hardly contributing, i would rather clear them out and use the wages for new players.

Obvs it depends on actually getting those new players in but thats what im willing to wait until August to see.
