Caretaker manager John Carver has just named the Newcastle side for the home game against Stoke City this afternoon and as half expected it’s an unchanged side.
Newcastle (4-3-3): Tim Krul; Daryl Janmaat, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Massadio Haidara; Moussa Sissoko, Vurnon Anita, Jack Colback; Remy Cabella, Ayoze Perez, Sammy Ameobi
Subs: Freddie Woodman, Paul Dummett, Mehdi Abeid, Gabriel Obertan, Yoan Gouffran, Emmanuel Riviere, Papiss Cisse
Stoke (4-2-3-1): Asmir Begovic; Phil Bardsley, Philipp Wollscheid, Marc Muniesa, Marc Wilson; Steven N’Zonzi, Glenn Whelan (c); Jonathan Walters, Stephen Ireland, Victor Moses; Mame Biram Diouf
Substitutes: Jack Butland, Andy Wilkinson, Geoff Cameron, Wilson Palacios, Steve Sidwell, Charlie Adam, Peter Crouch
Referee: Kevin Friend (Leicestershire)
It looks like Mike Williamson is in there to combat the height of Peter Crouch, who of course starts on the bench, and it’s a strong Newcastle bench with Paul Dummett back, although Jak Alnwick must have picked up a knock, with Freddie Woodman the backup goalkeeper.
Wonder when we’ll see Papiss Cisse starting again for Newcastle?
It’s going to be a difficult game for Newcastle, since Stoke have won six of their last eight games in all competitions, and lost only once at the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal.
We really need all 3 points this afternoon, but we’ll also take a draw.
