Unchanged Newcastle Side Faces Stoke

nufc emblemStoke City FC.svg

Caretaker manager John Carver has just named the Newcastle side for the home game against Stoke City this afternoon and as half expected it’s an unchanged side.

Teams:

Newcastle (4-3-3): Tim Krul; Daryl Janmaat, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Massadio Haidara; Moussa Sissoko, Vurnon Anita, Jack Colback; Remy Cabella, Ayoze Perez, Sammy Ameobi
Subs: Freddie Woodman, Paul Dummett, Mehdi Abeid, Gabriel Obertan, Yoan Gouffran, Emmanuel Riviere, Papiss Cisse

Stoke  (4-2-3-1): Asmir Begovic; Phil Bardsley, Philipp Wollscheid, Marc Muniesa, Marc Wilson; Steven N’Zonzi, Glenn Whelan (c); Jonathan Walters, Stephen Ireland, Victor Moses; Mame Biram Diouf
Substitutes: Jack Butland, Andy Wilkinson, Geoff Cameron, Wilson Palacios, Steve Sidwell, Charlie Adam, Peter Crouch

Referee: Kevin Friend (Leicestershire)

It looks like Mike Williamson is in there to combat the height of Peter Crouch, who of course starts on the bench, and it’s a strong Newcastle bench with Paul Dummett back, although Jak Alnwick must have picked up a knock, with Freddie Woodman the backup goalkeeper.

Wonder when we’ll see Papiss Cisse starting again for Newcastle?

It’s going to be a difficult game for Newcastle, since Stoke have won six of their last eight games in all competitions, and lost only once at the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal.

Ryan Taylor should play instead Anita. We should win today anyway 🙂

Still concerned we will lose today. Not too bothered about not changing a winning team.

    Sammy for a hat-trick 😀

Baldy is giving 13/2 for Bigi anytime scorer in the rangers game. A good bet should he start

I agree, could be a bad day for us at the back if we cannot control the midfield here. Coloccini and not been jumping and winning headers of late, and they will be up against some big men in the box.

Cannot complain about the selection much – apart from Colo/Willow – but in reality there’s not really any alternative. If they “hold up” okay i’m going for a 2 -1 win.
Please do not let that knacker Walters score.

good line up and strong bench. Anita has to perform now to keep out abeid but good competition for places in most areas at last.

Raylor, De Jong and Aarons to come into contention too.

Attack attack today, get the crowd behind the side and lets get some goals

Shawcross being out and Crouch on the bench should help too.

The key thing for us is not giveaway free kicks anywhere in our half.

My only worry is we do not seem to handle aerial bombardment too well every game under Carver we have conceded or look ropey from long balls flicked on Burnley , Southampton and Hull all looked dangerous doing it

Colo needs to get his finger out and Haidara and Janmaat need to be awake for the 2nd ball

Sissoko needs to up his game as well for a big man he hardly ever wins headers

Mark…a fortnight is just a word I would love to have in Danish 🙂

…do miss England at times. It is my second home (even though I only lived there for a year)

I had a friend who did study in Southampton for a year and who later moved to Glasgow. He is back in Copenhagen now though.

For me the differences between Denmark and England were minimal! Culturally we are not that different.

Also, have you noticed that Sky often have a quest and/or guest commentator who previously played for the opposition when we play at home.

I think I have only seen Rob Lee and Saylor as guests.

Having a strong bench is as important as the first team out. So at least we have options.
Its a tough one to call today, with us being so unpredictable. Williamson Colo partnership a bit worrying.

I have a few Danish friends and have noticed that they seem to pickup the local English dialect very quickly more so than other foreigners.

Jan Molby could easily be mistaken for a Scouser.

Lovenkrands has a rank Scottish accent haha! And Schmeichel had a pretty plain accent too come to think of it.

My long term ex was Danish and she spoke English perfectly without much of an accent.

Doesn’t it make you feel inadequate as an Englishman?

Absolutely mate, but as we know they will go down around our box the our players are going to have to be focussed.

I still think a hard fought 2 – 1 win for us today, but lets see.

433 and 4231 are the same formation in reality, just depends how far advanced Sissoko is.

Would like to see Dummett, Abeid and Cisse in but not going to grab the pitchforks yet.

Think we should win, but you never know, I lost enough money on Man City not beating Hull yesterday so cant count my chickens.

I have a feeling we are going to have a bad day with Colo at the back
I wouldnt be surprised if we conceded 3 or 4 goals today
If Moses is back to full fitness he is going to terrorise Janmaat on the left
Lucky for us Crouch is on the bench so long balls into our box shouldnt be an issue

I remember a Panorama programme yonks ago where a camera crew spent a week with SBR when he was a young manager at Ipswich.

Two things stick in my mind

1 …..How hard he found it , telling young apprentices (thats what they called them then) , that , they were not going to make it as pro’s.

2….. You never ever ever change a winning team…a lesson learnt by JC methinks

the starting line up is ok, my issue is cisse, top goal scorer, not known to be injured as far as i know, why leave him on the bench?

obtan, cisse (sammy in my case) and when he comes back, de jong.

I do still want a quality striker to come, when looking at the bench, as long as we don’t sell any of the forward line, i’ll happily take this set of attackers into next season. The player we can’t afford to be without next season is 2 new CBs.

our only decent CB is an injury prone saylor, i might not be like toonbrother but even i would love to see a new CB arrive and take his place as well ate arrival of a new C for willo.

Glad Raylor didn’t get a start, he’s good to have around for the younger lads but wasn’t good enough for this level before his injury and can’t imagine much has changed since!!

The best news for us is that both Bojan and Arnautovic are injured for Stoke!!

it should be a good game, it could have been just a one off but last week he had a much more attacking game that pardew ever had, we won’t need that sending off for lots of goals.

enjoy the game back on at half time
