Gouffran, Cisse Both Start At Palace – Ryan Taylor On Bench

Crystal Palace .svgnufc emblem

John Carver has just announced the side for tonight’s game at Selhurst Park against Alan Pardew’s new club Crystal Palace, and Papiss Cisse and Yoan Gouffran are both in the starting line-up.

Newcastle: Krul; Janmaat, Coloccini (c), Williamson, Haidara; Colback, Sissoko; Cabella, Perez, Gouffran; Cisse.
Subs: Woodman, Dummett, R.Taylor, Abeid, Anita, Obertan, Riviere

It looks like a 4-2-3-1 formation with Jack Colback and Moussa Sissoko the two holding midfielders, and Papis Cisse the lone striker up front with Ayoze Perez in the withdrawn striker role.

It doesn’t look a bad team, and the bench is quite strong although we see the untested Andy Woodman is again the back-up goalkeeper.

There are two changes made from the team that started against Stoke on Sunday, with Yoan Gouffran coming in for the injured Sammy Ameobi, and Papiss Cisse comes in for Vurnon Anita.

And it’s great to see Ryan Taylor back on the bench for tonight’s game and we could see him come on in the second half.

Mike Williamson keeps his place in an unchanged defense, which looked a lot more solid against Stoke City and we’re not too surprised that Carver didn’t make any chances.

This is what John Carver has said about Alan Pardew and the game tonight:

“He has a fantastic record at Crystal Palace, with four wins out of five in the league, but hopefully I will take the smile off his face this week.”

“We are both professionals and we both want to win every game we go into.” “It will be competitive – we will be toe-to-toe in the technical areas, don’t worry about that, but afterwards there will be one big cuddle.”

“Our record there is excellent.” “We’ve already been there once this season, and won in the cup after extra-time.” “It’s a stadium that will be lively and we will have to deal with fanatical support, which we all know about.”

“But let’s not forget a lot of Geordies live in London. Our support down there for the cup game was superb and we need the same again.”

Most fans expect us to lose this game tonight.

The very last thing we want to happen tonight is to lose this game, and if we can win this game it will be 7 points form the last three games and a good return.

2 up front and inside forwards rather than out and out wingers could actually do the trick
    Quite a bold selection

Regardless of Cisse and Gouffran playing I still think we are going to be beaten.

I predict we’ll be industrious and attempt to go for it. But lack of quality will let us down and we’ll get done on the counter and from a set piece knocked into Dann at the far post with Gayle getting the rebound.

In reality this match doesn’t determine whether NUFC were right to ditch Pardupe, but it is being framed that way.

Let the Battle of Gloat Hill commence! Who will gain the high ground, NUFC fans or Pardew. Imagine how smug we can be if we throttle them….. on the other hand imagine Professor Smug himself Pardew if they win 😆

With both Perez and Cisse on the pitch and adding Cabella we should score a few.

    2-1 for Toon.

Tonight I think we are going to get a twanking somewhere in the order of 3 – 0 or 3 – 1.
The tattered remnants of the pro Percy Brigade will make individual appearances to have a last crow in support of their false hero.

If Sammy isn’t injured, then good on Carver for dropping Sammy from the squad. Sammy has a serious professionalism problem… the guy just does not seem bothered.

With Aarons’ and Obertan coming back, he can only blame himself if he has missed his chance. He came, got his chance and strolled around without a care in the world.

Guess we had better thrash them then 😀

I think 2 – 0 to the Toon, But if we are playing for smugness the lads had better go for it 5 – 0 Toon.

The team selection slightly reminds me of England at the World Cup, with four forwards trying to play varying roles. I hope for a better result than what happened in Brazil, at least JC is going for the win but at the risk of the midfield being over run.

@AncientC – He hasn’t been dropped, Sameobi has picked up a knock.

Good changes to the team. Perez has the talent and work rate but being a lone striker over the last month has left him exposed. He needs to have Cisse with him in the middle or shifted out to the wing.

Still not convinced by Gouffran although he has looked much better since Pards left and Carver took the shackles off. I’d rather see Obertan and Perez on the wings and give Cabella the No. 10 spot.

Mister Tuff that can`t possibly be right you have assured me on many occasions Pardew is the worst manager in the PL and clearly we have a better squad than Palace.
I would have thought you would have bet every single bit of cash you could raise we would win.
For me I think we will win.

    Thus speaks P45:
“Much was muttered and written during my time in the North East,” Pardew added, “and as this is the first chance I have had to talk directly to the Newcastle supporters and the players who worked so hard for me since my departure, it is a great opportunity to reflect on a period that was much discussed and unfairly judged in my opinion.

I still think that Dummet given a run in the team at CB will prove worthwhile.
He can also turn quicker than Williamson
    Just my opinion

    Crystal Palace
    01 Speroni
    02 Ward
    04 Hangeland
    27 Delaney
    34 Kelly
    42 Puncheon
    18 McArthur
    28 Ledley
    11 Zaha
    29 Chamakh
    09 Sanogo

Sissoko is not the most combative of defensive midfielders so Colback will have to put in a lot of tackles, a worry knowing that he is prone giving away free kicks and yellow cards.
