There is not good news tonight for Newcastle fans, as Cheick Tiote may be out for the rest of the season with the knee injury he picked up while playing for Ivory Coast in the African Cup of Nations.
Cheick Tiote – has had scan on knee
Cheick has had a scan on the knee, and we should know within the next 24 hours on just how bad his injury is.
The 28 year-old defensive midfielder did not communicate with the club while he was at Equatorial Guinea so our medics are just now trying to ascertain how bad the injury is.
There are rumors the injury could be so bad that Cheick may have already played his last game for Newcastle, and he could miss the final (vital) 13 games of the season.
Whatever happens, there is a very good chance that Cheick will be sold in the summer.
Cheick will likely be out a number of weeks in the best case scenario – but we’ll know soon enough.
We have already lost center-back Steven Taylor for the season, which means we have only two experienced center-backs available – Colo and Willo – with Newcastle not bothering to bring in any cover last month.
And we have lost Siem de Jong probably for the season on Tuesday when he suffered another collapsed lung, which is very worrying from a medical viewpoint, so there’s a creative player who has not been available for us this season.
With Newcastle not bothering to bring in any players last month, and not bothering to replace Alan Pardew with an experienced coach, it’s really hard to think the powers that be at the club care too much about where we finish in the league table in May.
Le Charnley says top ten is still the minimum requirement for the club, but he’s done nothing to assist in that goal.
The sooner we get to 40 points the happier we will be.
