Chronicle Live is reporting today that Sammy Ameobi could be set to get a new contract at Newcastle, with his current deal running out in the summer.
Sammy Ameobi after scoring at White Hart Lane
At the beginning of the season it was touch and go whether Sammy would be staying at Newcastle, but after a string of good performances it looks like Sammy will be staying on Tyneside.
He has played 19 times this season with two great goals at Tottenham and at Hull, in games that we won with good second half performances and Sammy scored his goals in the second half in both those games.
One thing that worries us about the 22 year-old is that he picks up a lot of niggly little injuries in a season – much like his older brother Shola, in the 14 years he played in the Newcastle first team.
Sammy was not in the squad for the game at Crystal Palace on Wednesday night – but he seems quite calm about his contract situation:
“What comes will come, at the end of the day,” he said. “I’m just taking it game by game.”
Sammy made his first-team debut in May three years ago under Alan Pardew, when he was a second-half substitute against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the 2–2 draw.
He has now played 58 times for his home town club with 4 good goals, and played 5 times for the England U21 side.
He joined the Newcastle Academy in 2008, when he was 16 years old.

Comment #82Transfer/ tequila- I don’t think he is lazy but he does seem to lack stamina. He would be in my starting team because we lack creativity and Sammi does have a few tricks and runs. Needs to improve his final ball and pass the first posted defender.

Aaron’s looks a good prospect and I agree on his qualities but again Ferguson was exactly the same just at LB rather than LW nothing came from it in the end
And his injury issues are laughable really but what’s new at Newcastle

Comment #86The toon players are reminding me of the Liverpool side from a few years ago. Terrible against the lower half sides, but always managed to impress when playing the top ones.
Smacks of players playing for themselves, not the the club. Hoping to impress others that may be watching!

Comment #90Remember first seeing Sammi come on in the second half away to Chelsea a few year ago and thought what a great prospect but for me he hasn’t progressed enough.

Comment #91Luuk De Jong scored a hattrick for PSV today against AZ. He has 19 now this season in 23 games.
While his brother has been signed permanently and is missing an entire season through injury, the brother we sent packing is now tearing teams apart.
This only happens to us.

Comment #93one fine day …it was tongue in cheek mate 🙂
TS…it would be great if the decision alone rested on the medical team (if they are qualified to make that decision)

Oh of course would need to be fully qualified but ultimately we want the safest decision for the player. Like I say players as managers will take risks for all kinds of reasons, medical teams probaby wouldn’t as they could face professional (even legal) discipline for not following established protocol.

Comment #97nut meg …Spurs did by no means spend that Bale money successfully!
…it’s been 11 years since they appointed their first DoF and what a bumpy ride it has been.
I agree a club needs a stable youth setup these days that won’t change every 2 years when the management changes. But it’s s huge problem that players get tied down for up to 6 years and managers only live yo see out a third of that.
What’s the hierarchy with in that system and what about communication? Who has the final say since the managers job is on the line.
There are going to be many opinions about this but I am not sold on the concept. By the way that doesn’t mean I believe the manager should be in charge of everything.
Within the PL there are alternatives – just look at Swansea!
