Player Makes Emotional Plea To Newcastle

We learned yesterday that Jonas Gutierrez proposed move to Velez Sarsfield in Buenos Aries broke down, and he did not join the club he played for at the start of his career from 2001 through 2004, before he moved to Real Mallorca.

Jonas Gutierrez – will he play again for Newcastle?

Now Jonas is back in Newcastle and it’s not surprising that he wants to play for Newcastle again before his contract runs out at the nd of June.

Jonas has appeared only twice for Newcastle since the summer of 2013, and the rumor was that if Jonas reached a certain number of games for the club they would have to offer him a new deal.

We don’t know if that’s true, but another clause could be that if he reached a certain number of game then Newcastle would have to pay him a bonus, and we know that Newcastle are good at one thing – not spending money.

It’s hard to know if his contract is the reason he’s played only twice for us in the last 18 months and of course in that time he successfully fought his testicular cancer, and fans would love to see him in the black and white shirt again.

Jonas has played 194 times for Newcastle with 11 goals.

This is what Jonas said:

“I have played in a World Cup but if I play again for Newcastle then that will be the best moment of my career,” To get back after the cancer and chemotherapy, to put all that behind me, would be a huge moment. I feel really good. Maybe in two weeks I will be at 100%.”

“The welcome from the fans from the day I arrived has been special. So if I come back and play for Newcastle then, of course, it will be the best. It will be emotional.”  “I haven’t been to the stadium. It is hard to go and not be involved.”

“For now, I prefer to watch on TV at home. But, of course, I want to return to the first team.”  “When I was told about the cancer I went home to my dad and cried,” he said. “Then it was hard to find my hair falling out.”

“But I was always positive and I told my family and friends, ‘Listen, the most important thing is to be healthy again.’  Fighting cancer made other problems seem insignificant.”

There are so many ways that Newcastle United can become a better club under current owner Mike Ashley.

As well as being a lot more ambitious and being willing to spend a lot more money on the playing squad, the club can start treating their fans a lot better and have some heart.

Newcastle should play Jonas Gutierrez when he’s fit at least once at St. James’ Park in front of the supporters – and to heck with his contract – if that’s why he hasn’t played for so long.

The fans will then have a chance to show the Argentine they love him and thank him for the seven years he’s been at the club, and also honor him for his courageous fight in beating cancer.

That’s what Newcastle should do.

Everything at the Newcastle club doesn’t always have to be about money.

You’re right Ed. It’s a disgrace to let the lad go without a farewell and a thanks for his years of service, especially after beating cancer and seemingly doing his absolute best to return to fitness. It clearly means the world to him.

    Our club is a disgrace.

Jonas isn’t good enough. Not now. But then used correctly he does have 100% commitment as would be as useful as Gouffran or sammy in some games who can be either brilliant or awful.
In the u21 games hes played hes been head and shoulders above Taylor and Obertan and Arma who also played.
Thing is jonas has experience, fight, attitude and leadership qualities. Something we distinctly lack at times. Hes not the standard i’d like, but in our threadbare squad surely theres a place for someone able to play RB, LB, LM, RM, CDM, CM snd CAM. Not like we’re inundated with top players. We’ve got half a squad.
Personally find the clubs treatment of jonas as pretty poor

I think JC will give him a subbing cameo
However it’s no good giving him the last 5 minutes if we are getting tanked off a team.

He could do a job in centre midfield or as cover ahead of Janmaat on the right or Hadeira on the left. Deserves at least a 45 minute cameo before the end of the season. Lets get 10 points on the Board asap then give him a game.

A slightly biased article there by any chance Ed?

Treat the fans better AND have a heart?

Don’t wish to appear heartless (well actually I don’t really care), but what happened to only playing players who are good enough?

What happened to fielding the strongest team?

What happened to trying to win every match?

There must be a reason that Jonas is listed in the squad of 25 but please tell me this isn’t it.

Jonas should be shown far more respect, he was a key player in are rise up from the championship and a vital player in are 5th placed season. He could have left for better teams during that period but stayed with us. He’s made as much a contribution as any player in recent years and reading some of the disprespect he recieves is hard to read. Granted his final season before joining norwich with us was very poor and his legs had gone, but he ssill had some decent outing , he just never should have played every single game the way pardew had him, he went totally out of form and was a shadow of the player who had been with us up to that point. Pardews also impacted his game poorly as time went on with the defenssive instructions. One of the best outlet players and dribblers Ive seen.

Or, an alternative to playing Jonas in a formal match, the miserable gits could arrange a testimonial for the lad.

Why don’t they just let him come onto the pitch so the crowd can show him their appreciation for his achievements either just before a home game or at half-time? I’m amazed they didn’t do that as soon as he returned after his treatment.
