French Club Admits They Cannot Keep Newcastle Target

Newcastle have been tracking Marseilles winger Andre Ayew for over two years now, and news from France that his club Marseilles say they can do nothing to stop the player leaving this summer.

André Ayew

Andre Ayew – Marseilles helpless to keep him

There are various reports that his contract runs out in the summer, but there were also reports in December that he signed a one year deal and he confirmed that.

We will assume that news is not accurate and that his contract runs out this summer.

The latest news today is that a spokesman for his French club Marseilles has released a statement saying there’s not much the club can do to keep the winger/striker in France, because of their poor financial position.

This is what a spokesman for his club has told le10Sport:

“It is absolutely right to expect to achieve a high level of remuneration. We will have a discussion with him, because he is very important to us. But we can’t do anything,”

Andre wants to move to England, and there were reports that Tottenham, as well as Liverpool and Newcastle were interested in signing him last January.

The situation at Marseilles is that they are so short of money and that Andre could even be asked to take a pay cut, which he is not willing to do.

Andre could stay at Marseilles, but only if they offer him a big wage increase, but it appears they are not able to do that because of their financial situation, and Andre will certainly not take a pay cut to stay on in France.

This is what Andre said recently about the financial situation at Marseilles:

“Marseilles has financial worries, and they cannot pay certain wages. I am at the OM , I can still be there tomorrow. In my head, everything is open.”

“Whether to go, I will. But I like the OM . There will soon be a meeting. A pay cut to stay in OM  ? No, a player wants to progress in all aspects . “

There have been reports that various clubs have been negotiating with the star winger, and one of them is Newcastle, with Liverpool Tottenham and perhaps Arsenal being the other clubs.

With Marseilles having to fix their poor financial situation they are looking at reducing the wages of several of their players, and they could then elect to leave the club for clubs who can pay their wages.

29 year-old striker Andre-Pierre Gignac is one of their players who could seek a move away from the French club, although he is probably too old to be considered by Newcastle.

With the wage cut policy at the French club, we could even see Newcastle moving in and trying to get some good deals on some other players in the Marseilles’ squad.

Marseilles are currently second top of the French League two points behind Lyon and level on points with PSG.

It’s now looking like a three horse race for the French Championship this season, with St. Etienne now 8 points adrift in 4th place.

The first thing that jumps in to my mind when reading this article is , if Marseilles are in such a bad financial situation , what central defenders do they have ?

They have Nkoulou. He is absolutely class, very pacey, exactly what we need.

The club seems completely afraid to buy CBs though. It’s quite bizzare.

I’ve no doubt that given our fast deteriorating credibility and profile that the lad’ll end up at either of Spurs or Liverpool – probably Liverpool where there’s the chance of winning things.

Reverting to Charnley’s plea to support Carver and the good work he’s doing, here’s an extract form a post I’d submitted before Charnley’s utterances: –

‘…….. I’ve no doubt that Carver’ll be appointed as Head Coach even if we finish below tenth spot.

Charnley’ll probably spin out words to say that Carver’s done his best under extremely difficult circumstances and the Club will support him by strengthening the squad……’

The background to Carver’s permanent appointment as Head Coach is beginning to be prepared!

    Media manipulation at it best!

Pay attention at the back……. judging by the media rumour mill, it’s clear we need wingers and a full back and that’ll be it, CB shortage or not!

I can,t say i,me really surprised if what is written in the Piece!

As to the player, well if his wage demands are so high, then he will be at Liverpool or Totenham by the summer and another one of our long-term targets will be playing somewhere else!

We are a Joke, and have been for some time now !

centre back shortage ???? are you sure
colo wilo taylor dummett good satka

it was clear when they let mbiwa go with no replacement they think we have enough
what annoys me more is the lies of we couldn’t get a replacement over the line
just say we have enough cover and move on

Willo and Colo getting on a bit (Colo’s contract coming to an end this season?), Taylor and Good injury prone and that leaves Satka and Dummet.

Is that enough cover at CB?

Cudda, wudda, shudda. It’s always the same old tune when it comes to newcastle buying a player. We watch them for 2 years spending money on scouting only to be outbid by 10 pence because we won’t pay a bit over the valuation. It must be a Joy for other clubs like Swansea, QPR or Leicester to know they only have Newcastle to beat. Once again, I repeat, a drastic change of direction on club business will put this right and only one man can sanction it. We all know his name !

    @10:

Yes, i was screaming about Wilfred Boney for almost a year and a half before he went to Swansea. He,s spent two seasons with them until being sold on to Shitty for more than twice as much as Swansea paid for him !

We pissed around for almost a year trying to get Beftame Gomis, not as good as Boney but the problem was again Piss-Poor negotiation and small change !

Another we almost got was Loic Remy, who we eventually got on Loan but were screwed by QPR and Sloppy Chops, and our doomed transfer policy and the fact that we have an owner who is a Twot ?

I wander how many more prospective targets who we have will go elsewhere?
