Newcastle were linked with 17 year-old Jorge Mere of Sporting Gijon in the January transfer window, and the defender is one of the best young players in Spain at the moment, and he’s very comfortable on the ball and a very good technical player.

Reports in Spain last month suggested that Newcastle were keenly interested in signing young players there, and once they are brought to Newcastle they can improve with the right coaching – much the way Ayoze Perez has made such rapid progress this season.
And it seems the success of Ayoze Perez at Newcastle has caused the club to do more scouting in Spain.
There was also news that Newcastle were interested in 18 year-old winger David Concha of Racing Santander.
David has played 23 times for the Santander first team with 3 goals and 3 assists, and he made his debut for Racing in December of 2013, when he had only just turned 17.

This season David has played 21 times for the club, scoring two goals, and he usually plays out on the wing for the Spanish side.
Concha has visited St James’ Park this season, and he was at the derby game against Sunderland in October, and both youngsters have played for the Spanish U19 side,
The deal Newcastle tried to do in January was to sign the two teenagers and then loan them back to their Spanish clubs for the rest of the season.
Maybe Newcastle decided to let them play in Spain until the summer, and then sign them at that time, but we hope some deal has already been agreed with their clubs.
Newcastle were favorites for a couple of months to sign 18 year-old MK Dons midfielder Dele Alli for around £4M in January, and then loan him back to MK Dons for the rest of the season.
But Tottenham came in at the last minute and did the deal with MK Dons for their top youngster.
Dele’s one excellent youngster who we missed out on last month, and we hope that Newcastle can sign these two Spanish teenagers in the summer.
After spending no money in January, selling one player and loaning out six more, Newcastle need to spend some money in the summer transfer window and show some ambition.
We hope that’s what happens.
