Newcastle To Sign Two Spanish Players This Summer

Newcastle were linked with 17 year-old Jorge Mere of Sporting Gijon in the January transfer window, and the defender is one of the best young players in Spain at the moment, and he’s very comfortable on the ball and a very good technical player.

Reports in Spain last month suggested that Newcastle were keenly interested in signing young players there, and once they are brought to Newcastle they can improve  with the right coaching – much the way Ayoze Perez has made such rapid progress this season.

And it seems the success of Ayoze Perez at Newcastle has caused the club to do more scouting in Spain.

There was also news that Newcastle were interested in 18 year-old winger David Concha of Racing Santander.

David has played 23 times for the Santander first team with 3 goals and 3 assists, and he made his debut for Racing in December of 2013, when he had only just turned 17.

This season David has played 21 times for the club, scoring two goals, and he usually plays out on the wing for the Spanish side.

Concha has visited St James’ Park this season, and he was at the derby game against Sunderland in October, and both youngsters have played for the Spanish U19 side,

The deal Newcastle tried to do in January was to sign the two teenagers and then loan them back to their Spanish clubs for the rest of the season.

Maybe Newcastle decided to let them play in Spain until the summer, and then sign them at that time, but we hope some deal has already been agreed with their clubs.

Newcastle were favorites for a couple of months to sign 18 year-old MK Dons midfielder Dele Alli for around £4M in January, and then loan him back to MK Dons for the rest of the season.

But Tottenham came in at the last minute and did the deal with MK Dons for their top youngster.

Dele’s one excellent youngster who we missed out on last month, and we hope that Newcastle can sign these two Spanish teenagers in the summer.

After spending no money in January, selling one player and loaning out six more, Newcastle need to spend some money in the summer transfer window and show some ambition.

We hope that’s what happens.

Let’s face it, everyone and their dog knew we were going to have problems with so few defenders. Dummett getting injured for 8 weeks, now means we can’t afford injuries or suspensions. Likelihood of neither of those happening in the coming 2 months? Slim. Janmaat as a centre half? Or bring in Satka or Cameron? Is Good fit?

The club would be crazy if they weren’t considering looking at the list of free agents that may be eligible – although can players still be registered if they arrive on a free now? I guess they must if rumours of Nene joining West Ham are correct.

Yobo was one that stood out for me, well past his prime, but would be good enough to start for us, or more likely provide experienced cover if required.

Kyle Cameron, one of our youth team/Under 21 central defenders. Recently being talked about as moving into the first team pool, and recently praised Carver for the attention to detail he pays with those coming through.

I have only seen him play a couple of times though, so can’t really comment on how good he is.

    Jeff,
Not sure, the Aussies rate him highly, but his loan spells were hardly what you would term huge successes. At Bradford he played in less than half the games while he was there, and started in just 7. Was largely ignored in their league campaign, only making 3 appearances.

At Dundee things seemed to go better, starting his first 5 games there, but then injury has meant he hasn’t kicked a ball in anger in senior football since.

I’d say he is worth giving a chance to if he can get to full fitness, Willo isn’t the answer, so we might as well give others a chance in the right games.

    Jeff,
That is what I look for in a footballer. None of this scruffiness. That is why I loved football in the early 1900’s, everybody was so well groomed and presented! 😉

    SITC,
We will probably look to bring Shambles in to add to the coaching staff. Worked with Sir Bobby, tick, played at Newcastle, tick, knows Carver already, tick. Welcome our new head of Defensive play development.

I know Ed’s keen to maximise hits on the blog, but surely the headline (Newcastle To Sign Two Spanish Players This Summer) would be less misleading were it written as a question – Newcastle To Sign Two Spanish Players This Summer?

The ajax of english football only problem we have is you have to be successful for other clubs to want to buy your players ( tiote for example) penny pinching with managers cost you more in the long run. Mike you have to spend money to make money. If Mike had gone out and got De Boer hed have inside knowledge on player development and a who who on up and comming players. Carr dosent always get it right. afilmatano, reveire, chucky etc. Big difference is clubs like ajax and benfica who find and develop stars all the time have no other income its their bread and butter nufc will recieve record amounts of money frm tv this year yet the outlay will be that of a club just comming out of the championship, in some cases even been outspend by smaller lesser clubs. Bottom line Mike is if you want nufc to be that club that all the big clubs have on speed dial you have to put the infastucture in place starting with John Carver and and his back room staff and getting them out the door.

Unless, of course a ‘big club’ fancies either of them. No disrespect to these two Spanish lads who I’ve never heard of, but we’re becoming a club of scavangers. And as soon as a bigger beast comes into view, we hide behind the nearest rock.
I do hope the irony will not be lost on Charmless and Monster Mash if Bony puts a couple past Krul on Saturday. Not only did we miss out on a player but Mashley missed out on 15 million profit! Laavvittt! I expect Carr must sometimes wonder why he bothers, too.
