John Carver has just named the team for the tough game at the Etihad this afternoon and John is playing some of his experienced players in the starting line-up.
Newcastle will play in the familiar 4-3-3 this afternoon:
Newcastle: (4-3-3): Tim Krul; Daryl Janmaat, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Massadio Haidara; Moussa Sissoko, Vurnon Anita, Jack Colback; Ayoze Perez, Papiss Cisse, Yoan Gouffran
Substitutes: Freddie Woodman, Ryan Taylor, Mehdi Abeid, Gabriel Obertan, Sammy Ameobi, Adam Armstrong, Emmanuel Riviere
Referee: Chris Foy (Lancashire)
That’s one forced change from the side that drew at Crystal Palace 10 days ago, and Vurnon Anita comes in for the injured Remy Cabella.
In fact it’s quite a strong team for today, and it’s good to see the subs bench so strong with Ryan Taylor, Mehdi Abeid, Gabby Obertan, Sammy Ameobi, Adam Armstrong and Manu Riviere all available.
If Coloccini or Williamson are injured, then Janmaat will play at center-back and either Ryan Taylor or Vurnon Anita will play at right back – probably Ryan Taylor.
The midfield three will be Sissoko, Anita and Colback, and let’s hope Jack behaves himself today, because one more yellow card and he misses the next two league games. 🙁
This is going to be a very tough game for Newcastle, but the lads have to show that they are improving with the work being done by John Carver and his coaching staff this week on the training field.
Anything out of this game at all would be very good.
Four in five readers think we will lose this game this afternoon.
If we can get a point it would be a very good result.
Howay The Lads!!
