Remi Garde was interviewed yesterday in Eurosport, and was asked about Lyon being top of the French League after their 1-0 win at home to Nantes on Sunday, and Remi’s former club are now 2 points ahead of money bags PSG after 26 games played.
Remi Garde – I have a duty of confidentiality to Newcastle
Obviously in the last three years PSG have made a big mistake,  and haven’t spent enough money on their squad. 😀
Remi was the Lyon head coach for three years from the summer of 2011, and left the game last May for a one year break.
While at the club he brought through a number of good young players like Alexandre Lacazette, who was a target of Newcastle’s last summer and who has scored a fantastic 25 goals for Lyon this season in his 30 total games played.
And he admitted that in his last season at Lyon, Alexandre had bitched to him a bit:
“With me he bitched a little when I first played him on the right, but that greatly advanced him in terms of the number of games he was able to play. “
Lyon won seven titles in a row from the 2001-2002 season, and this is what Remi said about 3rd placed Marseilles, who  are still a threat after getting a 2-2 draw last weekend at Christophe Galtier’s St. Etienne:
“It is premature to dismiss the OM, especially in view of Sunday match in Saint-Etienne ” .
Remi was then asked about his future and he mentions Newcastle in the last paragraph:
“I cannot say I’m desperate to return to the coaching bench, Â far from it. But I can easily say that I loved this coaching experience. I needed to recover and rejuvenate myself.”
“But I had probably caught a virus to start this profession. It is not excluded that I return one day. ” Starting next season?” Â “I have contacts that are not always known.”
“I also do not really want anyone to know. I do not close the door to anything, or to take another year off, or dive into a project that would suit me “
“I have a duty of confidentiality in this matter to Newcastle, Â then I’ll be very honest and very integrated with respect to the leaders of Newcastle, I cannot say more. “
It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that Remi has already been offered the Newcastle job, but has been told to keep quiet about it until the end of the season, and it’s not the first time he’s mentioned the confidentiality he has with Newcastle.
What we’ve learned about Remi over the last few months is that he is a real gentleman, and did not want to take too much credit for the Lyon success this season, and he says new coach Hubert Fournier has done very well and he thinks Hubert is a very good coach.
What we need at Newcastle is a good man-manager and an excellent coach who can bring the best out of our first team players and bring through the youngsters.
From what we’ve seen and read about the 48 year-old Frenchman, we would be delighted if Remi Garde is the new head coach at Newcastle.
And from what we’ve read he would take the job if Newcastle offered him it in the summer.
His appointment would really lift the Newcastle fans and maybe the players too.
What do you think?

Comment #4Well, reading the press at the time he was the only one who was spoken to by the club at a meeting in London.
Maybe an agreement was reached between both parties then & there.
All this waffle about due diligence, and having six candidates to talk to sounded just like that; Waffle!
Not going to be to optimistic, just in case, but the way our club works, (everything has to be cloak & dagger) it sounds like it could be a done deal.

If lilo was coaching Heardman he would start by screaming “Get yore ‘air cut you ‘orrible little man ”
(Heardman is 6’4″ and an Andy Carroll lookalike)

Partly, but he did feature a bit for the Under 21’s last season as well. He is older than Arma, 19 I think, and far more of a physical presence.
I think we are fairly safe now, so would prefer the club to give people like Heardman, Arma, Satka, Roberts a shot. Not all at once, and not in all games, but giving them an opportunity to prove their worth and help their development is better than sticking with the same old same old, particularly when several could well be gone come August.

Comment #8Herdman looks a decent prospect, (like so many others before him) and has scored 4 goal in the last 6 games.
He needs a couple of lower league loan spells now, and hopefully he will be the finished product in a couple of years.

Comment #10I’m not saying they would be world beaters, they may not cut it, but we have enough who have struggled to cut it for the best part of 18months playing regularly.

I’m not sure putting any of the young lads into this first team would be of any benefit to them.
If our team were playing with confidence, passion and self belief, if the could string two passes together, and if they got forward more to support the loan striker and attacked the oppositions goal then yes I would be all for sticking the occasional youngster in for a game.
My concern is putting any youngster into this team now would be soul destroying for them.
Adam Campbell has had to go backwards to find his confidence again and get back to scoring goals.

One of the reasons Garde isn’t coming until Summer is that his sidekicks are still working for Lyon under Garde’s replacement and can’t/won’t leave there until May

Agreed; it was reported last month that if Garde was to come here he wanted to bring in some of the coaching staff from Lyon, Then it was seen as a stumbling block for him getting the job, as we assume Ashley will not want to pay off Carver and Stones 8 year contracts.

C’mon man wake up. They couldn’t announce Garde – they know there’s a great risk that doing so would affect both Carver and the players and therefore put our title run-in at risk!

Comment #19Garde hasn’t distanced himself like many others have, so he will be in the frame for the job.
Maybe there are more negotiations to take place before he can say yes or no.

It could be a done deal or more likely a leak plus conjecture – they’re still keen to get season tickets renewed and presumably ameliorate fan malcontent?

Comment #21If I remember correctly I think Garde is still under contract at Lyon… Final season…. Maybe that has something to do with the confidentiality…. Or maybe not!

Comment #23Carver and Stone will be kept on as coaches. Probably development with Beardsley.
No way will he pay off their contracts
