This 22 Year-Old Ticks All The Boxes At Newcastle

22 year-old Luc Castaignos has had an excellent season playing for FC Twente in the Eredivisie,  and he’s scored 13 goals in 24 games so far this season

luc Castaignos

Luc Castaignos – Newcastle are number one?

Chief Scout Graham Carr has kept tabs on this player for over two years now, and he had a hiccup in his career when he left Feyenoord for Inter Milan in the summer of 2011, and stayed there only a year when he played only 8 games and scored one goal in Italy.

He was only 18 at the time and he then joined FC Twente the following summer, and he has a good record of 44 goals in 99 total appearances for his current club.

Castaignos was brought into Twente as a replacement for former Twente striker Luuk de Jong, who had signed on at Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2012, after Newcastle had been trying to sign the same player.

Luc started his career at Feyenoord as a 14 year-old in their Youth Academy, and he made his debut in September of 2009 replacing Leroy Fer in the second half in the a cup game at Harkemase Boys, when he was just three days short of his 17th birthday.

While at Feyenoord he scored 15 goals in 42 appearances and he has played for all the Dutch Youth sides including 15 appearances with six goals for the Dutch U21 side.

Luc also holds the record as a top scorer for the Dutch U17 side scoring 13 goals in only 17 appearances.

The 6’2″ tall 22 year-old seems to tick all the boxes for Newcastle, and we certainly need at least one good striker brought into the club this summer, and Luc would be a very good acquisition for the club.

What do you think?

Season tickets still up for renewal couldn’t have anything to do with this report as well, could it?

After the new TV deal the PL will be an even greater magnet for promising/proven continental players. MA has previously bought players in for £10+M (Colo) and £9M (Cissé) and seems to have been carefully husbanding the club’s resources. I think the most likely scenario is a big name continental coach in the summer with an adequate fund for key players of quality. If I was into mindreading and conspiracy theories like the pessimists here, my optimistic daydream would be that a new coach has already got an under-the-table agreement and is secretly part of the scouting discussions. Ah well, just fantasising.

Ahh yes, transfer talk has begun early this year. Everyday from now until the start of next season we will hear the same drivel of managers and incoming players. Some will lap it up as gospel and sign up for another year as this year it might just be different….and so the cycle continues!!

You say if you were into “mind reading and into conspiracy theories like the pessimists on here then…..”

Read your comment back, Colo was bought very early on and Cisse in pards 1st full season and a year on from selling a striker for 35m. Logic would say that we are going to sell a big player for around 15m/20m to fund most of the incoming for the new season.

As for new manager, really? Your no different to the mind readers and conspiracy theorists you were trying to have a go at. They talk about doom and gloom because that’s how it is….you put your head in the sand and try to put a positive spin on things!!

Doubled the debt and spending less and less.

can’t believe how dishonest carver is turning out to be.

First the lies about fielding a weakened team in the cup and now the guff about not playing Guti for now when everyone knows that would trigger a contract extension.

    I see carver’s lips move but it’s still pardew’s lies I hear.

When you think of the other vile individuals ashley has brought in like wise, llambias, JFK twice, pardew, wonga etc it makes you sick to the stomach.

From top to bottom these people really do treat us as incredibly thick over and over again.
Then again 52000 give them license to.

Makes me think how hard it is to score in the eredivisie with Luuk de Jong now back and scoring plenty of goals for Eindhoven after not having much impact here.

It’s a shame for LDJ, he came to us when he had very few games and fitness would have been an issue. Then he was asked to play a less attacking role then he’s used to.

Newcastle fans are partly to blame for the mess we’re in.
MA is just a business man, making every penny he can by cutting costs to a minimum to maximise profits.
Fans have a choice how to spend their money, they know how the club is run, they know that the football is poor but 50,000 still support the regime financially.
    What do you expect?
We all know the club has no ambition.

You don’t hear Pardew’s lies when Carver’s lips move.

Give Pardew his due, when he told fibs, his language was much more guarded and used political (as in double-speak) language when doing it whereas

I imagine Sissoko, Krul and possibly Tiote will leave in the summer and half the cash we get will be used on bringing in a few players with the rest banked for training ground improvements…. we’ll have the best training ground in the world at this rate , we seem to spend 20 million a year on improvements

Think strikers need a strong and high shots on target percentage to do well here! Chances are few and far between! Demba Ba has one of the highest shot chance conversion rates in Europe snd that showed whilst he was here. Saying that when be was at freiburg papiss cisse rarely missed….
Surprised we haven’t been linked with Gaetan Courtet. Hes a striker that could be used well in our squad.
Sampdoria paid £12m for Luis Murial in jan. Would have been a superstar here

Always thought Newcastle and WBY seema match made in heaven…
Hes a free scoring french ligue 1 striker on low wages, under 25 playing for a club that traditionally gets fleeced when selling players…. The same club that sold sissoko for £1.8m…

Indeed – Colo/Cisse were not bought this year. That’s what I meant when I wrote “husbanding… resources”. The pessimistic conspiracy theorists claim that Mike Ashley is just pocketing unspent money. I don’t see that in the published accounts: “£50M into owner’s pocket…” Of course he could pay off more of the debt, but it appears the money is in reserve for spending at some point instead.
Concerning mind-reading and conspiracy theorizing, there’s a huge gulf between “I think” and the usual “that’s how it is [and it’s never going to change under Ashley]” statements.
I only “think” things may happen the way I suggested, but I’ have reasons. If all Ashley wants is free advertising, why would he want to make NUFC a mediocrity and a laughing stock? He’d be dragging down the SD image. As I wrote a couple of threads back, SD is his bread and butter, and NUFC is just the Marmite. He needs people to love or respect NUFC rather than hate or despise it.

I have to agree with Boydonegood concerning MA’s financials and I don’t believe he’s here to ruin us or this club in fact I think what he’s doing is very good for this club think about the past transfers on players like Owen, Sisxco, Lugue Smith ect,ect to name a few and what pathetic wages they were on and there worth in value and contribution to the team?

now look at the players that came in on the cheap, Sissoko, Haidara, Gouffran, Perez ect,ect better players than the ones stated above, on lower wages and contribute more to the team.

Reading this Chronicle article (Ed’ll be knocking out a post now) and looking at Charnley’s comments in particular, one must wonder whether he’s living on another planet?

    http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-say-want-improve-8715238

We know the board’s been supportive of Pardew and Carver of late but sometimes as kick up the offending arse is more appropriate – especially as fans don’t like this bullshit.

Ok, Carver’s appointment lasts until the summer but holding out the carrot of appointing him full time was absolutely stupid. He’d have been better announcing that Carver’s an interim appointment until a new HC joins in the summer. That would have offered at least a glimmer of hope but what’s we get? Same old crap.

    Charnley – wake up!

We know Charnley said he’s gonna communicate more with fans (forum meetings reduced to three a year?) but he’s just pushing out the party line with nothing that says that Ashley intends to demonstrate some ambition by appointing a credible HC and making some serious investment in players.

why are we screwed if because Villa are up for sale for 150 million?

what does Villa have that out stands us, we have a better reputation, better players and better capacity, any other billionaire would see advantage with us rather than Villa.

Villa maybe up for 150 million but it will take another 150+ million to make them successful

villa might be only 150mill but they lose about 50mill year and there are about 90 mill in loans as well

even if the 90 mill is included in the 150m its still losing 50m a year add that to fact they need to spend a fortune on players
if the Ashley wants 300 for us were a lot better prospect

FDB, Gaiter, Garde anyone of these will probably come to Newcastle next season, doesn’t this alone show ambition?

I can’t see Carver staying on for full time head coach, I also don’t see Beardsley and Stone staying on since these 3 head coaches would want there own staff to come in.

maybe just maybe this is why we haven’t spent much in the last transfer window?

I’m actually surprise MA hasn’t used his SD as our shirt sponsor but maybe just maybe he’s waiting for everything to come together at Newcastle with a very good head coach who can utilize youth players into the first team to give us squad depth that can compete in Europe.

he may not be able to use his own SD boarders to sponsors us in Europe but with his own logo on our shirts this could benefit his business and Newcastle in a hit two birds with one stone scenery.

the only problem with this though is once Wonga is pushed away the naming rights for SJP will go back to SD arena

club statements saying no participation in cups because there is no money it
there was money available in the summer and the last 2 jans yet here we are in desperate need of players and all we seeing is a squad devoid of depth and quality all done to keep wages down
