Both Karl Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles played the whole game in Nottingham Forest’s 2-1 home win against high-flying Bournemouth last night, and new manager Dougie Freedman is starting to turn things around at Forest.
Jamaal Lascelles being congratulated after scoring equalizer
The game didn’t start well for Forest as they were 1-0 down after only 3 minutes with a goal from Andrew Surman, but Newcastle player Jamaal Lascelles equalized on 21 minutes and then captain Henri Lansbury, the former Arsenal player, put them ahead just before half time.
And Forest were able to get a victory that took them into 9th place in the Championship on 47 points.
But that’s still 12 points out of a playoff place with Bournemouth slipping to joint 4th place on 59 points.
During the latter days of manager Stuart Pearce in charge, both Darlow and Lascelles lost their first team places, but since the former Newcastle left-back was fired in early February, things are starting to look up at Nottingham.
Pearce was replaced by former Crystal Palace and Bolton Wanderers manager Dougie Freeman, and both Newcastle players have regained their places, and Forest are unbeaten in their first five matches under Freedman.
In fact they have four wins and a draw in those games, and their goal difference has also improved by +8, so Dougie has taken 13 points from five games, and Forest are surging up the table.
Let’s hope they can keep it up.
Jamaal has played 17 times for Forest with one goal this season, and goalkeeper Karl Darlow has made 31 appearances.
Karl Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles are on loan for the season at Nottingham Forest, and are expected to join Newcastle’s first team squad in the summer, and fight for their first team places at Newcastle.

Comment #41Does anyone know if there was training today ahead of the crunch match on Saturday?
And if Tim Krul and Jack Colback were present?

Sorry, to summerise, I hope it is not possible that a total of seven clubs could gain the necessary points to put us in to relegation.

Comment #49Of the 12 games left I guess we will achieve the following results, however, the bottom 5 will, I feel sure, produce the bottom 3. Those 5 also have tough games to play and I just cannot see us not remaining in the Premier League.
Villa (H) 3pts
Man Utd (H) 0pts
Everton (A) 0pts
Arsenal (H) 0pts
Sunderland (A) 1pnt
Liverpool (A) 0pts
Tottenham (H) 0pts
Swansea City (H) 3pts
Leicester City (A) 3pts
WBA (H) 3pts
QPR (A) 1pnt
West Ham Utd (H) 1pnt
The bottom 5 are:-
16 (16) Sunderland 26 4 13 9 22 36 -14 25
17 (17) Queens PR 26 6 4 16 27 45 -18 22
18 (18) Burnley 26 4 10 12 25 44 -19 22
19 (19) Aston Villa 26 5 7 14 13 36 -23 22
20 (20) Leicester City 26 4 6 16 24 42 -18 18

It would be almost miraculous for all of these teams to completely turn their season around and climb above us in the table. We have 32 points which puts us 10 points above a relegation place, we are almost safe as it is. As long as we keep picking up a few point we will not be relegated.

I don’t think it matters if they were drunk or even if they had been drinking.
If I were in charge of training this morning I think I’d rather see a photo of them swigging champagne outside a party in Darras Hall after midnight this morning.
Colback won’t be playing, so I suppose having been banned and disciplined he’s entitled to go partying 300 miles away on a schoolday.
Is it possible that if there was training today they could have possibly turned up rested and ready?

Comment #53Lindisfarne . Thanks for that . My theory is , if we play as bad as that every week and lower sides maintain their fight and also decent football , why can’t it happen . It has every chance to happen than not .these lower clubs have managers with experience in management – we haven’t . It all depends if carver has learnt anything from the likes of SBR and dare I say it paradew ? Let’s hope he has , looked , listened and learnt – if not ????????????

Either today or yesterday must have been a rest day.
Otherwise they had to get to London, get ready, attend two parties, and then get back to Newcastle.
Not much resting in that.
Carver says they are sweating blood. It was on that press release half the team took turns to read out on Monday.
It doesn’t sound like it.

Comment #69Graeme —–looking at your predictions , I believe you have fell into the dangerous trap of predicting 3 points for wins against “so called “lesser sides and losses against top sides . Imo that won’t hsppen . If we lose against villa on Saturday , that’s your theory down the swanny . another prediction list will need to be drawn up .

I have no problem with people letting their hair down.
It is just so utterly at odds with Monday’s message that it was all hands to the pumps.
“Couldn’t wait to get to the training ground.”
Or off it, by the sound of things.

“Last season when we were staring relgation in the face”?
I dont remember that last season. I remember us being in 5th at Christmas a couple of points off 4th.
We had such a lead on the rest of the mid tablers that we didnt have to turn up for the whole second half of the season and we still finished comfortably above the relegation zone.
Before we shipped Cabaye off we were not doing too shabby at all. We are far more in danger of relegation this season given how tight it is at the bottom.

I enjoy your general optimism, I think 8 of the squad who played in the latter half of last season have now left the club. The lack of a consistent team has constantly been revealed by the inconsistency in performances and results.

Comment #77Stuart No9 @ 69 – you are correct, but I still think we will get 12 – 15 points from those games; I also believe that we will not be in a relegation battle at the end of the season.
I dont think the bottom 5 can improve sufficiently to overtake us and 40 points will not be required for safety, it will be a lot lower. Just my opinion though, it’s not based on any science lol!!

I wondered what you meant by “front to back quicker” then I found the quote lol. Still it doesn’t make sense, surely he meant back to front? Surely?
“After that result last weekend, I was desperate to get back on the training pitch,” he told reporters. “We will hopefully put it right this weekend. I let the players suffer on Monday a little, but everyone is in good spirits now and Saturday is an opportunity to put it right.
“I’ve seen the difference in Villa straight away under Tim. They are going front to back a bit quicker. Villa have got a new lease of life and more energy.”

Head coach John Carver has recalled young winger Callum Roberts from his loan spell at Gateshead to provide additional cover given our mounting injury problems.
The 17 year old had originally gone out to Gateshead on a loan spell until the end of the season but having made just three appearances, being substituted at half time in the game against Nuneaton and then appearing as a sub against Kidderminster Harriers, it sounds like maybe the spell could’ve gone better for him.
In any event he’s meant to have been brought back as an additional number so we will now see if he played any part in our remaining twelve league games.
