This Available Top Manager Too Big A Personality For Newcastle

The former Liverpool and Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez is in the last season of his contract at Italian club Napoli, and will probably become available in the summer.

Rafa Benitez – available in the summer

With Newcastle going to appoint a new head coach in the summer, we are continually linked with Rafa, who is a very good manager.

He had a successful six year reign at Liverpool from 2004, and they won the Champions League in 2005,  with that dramatic win on penalties over Carlo Ancelotti’s AC Milan, after being 3-0 down at half time.

This is what Rafa said in his press conference yesterday about leaving Napoli:

“I do not know when my farewell will arrive.” “It could be between three to five years, or even just one. Regardless, I will certainly always give 100 per cent for this team until the last day.”

“Everyone knows that my contract expires in June, shortly we’ll talk but now it is more important to talk about the team, my personal issues do not count.”

Newcastle  could offer the job to Rafa but quite honestly even if we did, we’d be surprised if he would want to come to Tyneside.

Maybe he would be more keen to manage a London side like West Ham, with Sam Allardyce’s contract up ion the summer and West Ham going into a bad slump at the moment.

QPR will also be looking for a new head coach but even if they stay in the Premier League, we doubt that Rafa would want to join a club who have never been in Europe and have struggled in the Premier League for a the last two seasons.

Not sure where 54 year-old Rafa will end up in the summer, but he will get offers – that’s for sure – but we’d be surprised if he got an offer from Newcastle.

The Spaniard has too strong a personality for what Mike Ashley is looking for, and Rafa also likes to do things his way and spend big money on top players.

That will definitely rule him out at Newcastle. 😀

The trouble is, everyone gets there hopes and expectations up or lifted every summer, just to be let down by budget or no signings coming in.
I’ll be surprised if Carver doesn’t get the job full time. He’s the cheapest option who’s very happy working under MA rules.

Might as well put “Anyone else” in there and get the same results.
