Newcastle Head Coach Devastated And Annoyed By Defeat

Head coach John Carver cannot have been too happy at the end of this game, and it was terrible defending by Mehdi Abeid and Tim Krul that gifted Ashley Young with a goal and three points tonight at St. James’ Park.

ashley young after scoring gifted goal

Ashley Young after being handed a gift goal after 89 minutes

Neither side played well and it wasn’t a good game to watch by any means, but Newcastle could have still won this game if we had taken the three or more good chances we had to score – but we didn’t take any of them and we denied a stone cold penalty after just 10 minutes which could have turned the game in our favor,.

John Carver wasn’t the only Newcastle fan that was devastated when the final whistle was blown tonight.

This is what Carver said after the game to BBC Sport

“I’m devastated, I’m annoyed. I needed five to 10 minutes to calm down. Our guys gave every inch. But when you play Man Utd you have to concentrate for every minute and we didn’t.”

“I think we had the best chances and you have to put one of those away. You just wonder if they will hit you on the sucker punch and they did.”

“I’m devastated for our guys. The goal at the end the way it came, young Abeid has learned a harsh lesson, he is learning the game.”

The result keeps Newcastle 11th in the Premier League table and every team beneath us lost tonight,  but a win could have taken us within one point of  West Ham in 10th place, who lost again – 1-0 at home to Chelsea.

Stoke beat Everton 2-0 at home, and are now 7 points clear of Newcastle with a better goal difference – so that top ten spot is looking hard to achieve now – unless we can start winning some games and  catch West Ham.

This is John Carver’s coaching record after tonight’s loss.

Complete comedy show at the back again! 3 chances to clear a simple ball, complete and utter shambles.
Now on to Carver, does this man honestly believe he deserves the job? Really!!?
The 1st sub, Perez on Rivierre off WTF! Rivierre was actually causing them trouble but Carver takes him off when Clearly Overran was as much use as tits on a tractor.
The 2nd was Jonas no complaints, great to see the man on the park and played better than most of the sh”t that was on the park.
The 3rd Goofy for Sammy, why was Overran still on the park!! player?? Jesus!! The man is clueless, has no awareness off the ball, panics when he has it and falls over with thee slightest touch.
Why is Williamson a pro player!!?? Every time there’s a clear chance to give him the balll with no pressure on him he points to another player, like he’s scared of getting the blame for conceding a goal, sorry Williamson but most of the time it is your fault, no forget the sorry, you useless, brain dead, slower than my granny, oh no there’s a player 10 yards away coming to get the ball from me, better punt it up the park and get the heat off me, die Williamson! Die!

If Carver ever was up to being a Prem manager he would have proved his worth by now – he’s had a long enough career as No2. But that’s all he is…..

    Just got in from match
Poor game – any decent TOON team from the past would of taken Man utd to the cleaners they were poor – pity we matched them.
But should of won if we had taken our chances.
carver – what the F**k are you doing keeping Overated on – he was a complete waste of space – should of taken him off and put Perez up front with Cisse and Riviere then I think we would of won.
Sorry to say Taylor looks finished as a full back – got to play him midfield if anywhere looked slow and easily got turned.
Is Sammi – Nzogbia’s brother, I was calling him Sammi insomnia tonight – half asleep most of the game. No one stood out – Krul for his double save but then cocks it up at the end Abeid had a good game until the end. Riviere had a decent game but should of done better just before half time – Ain’t seen the tele so cannot say what happened with Cisse/evans spitting.
All in all a dsiappointing game and result
May should of had a pen first half

Sorry you had to pay to watch that drivel, I watched it on a dodgy stream, no point getting sky in my flat, can only get the 1 cable in so no recording or anytime option, not worth paying an engineer £2000 to fit a bigger lnb for the building. Is the atmosphere as bad as it sounds to us not at the stadium? Sounded like a morgue until Jonas came on.

I was already late for work when they scored so figured I may as well hang round in case we scored the equaliser.
At least it wasn’t the drumming some expected. That was more to do with how crap they were. Far from the usual 6 goal thrillers of that fixture from years gone by.
thought he was gona bring Obertan off when Goof was coming on. Couldn’t believe it was Sammy. Not that Sam had been a lot better than Obertan but he always has more potential. Think Obertan will struggle to get back to where he was before the injury. It took him 4 years to get there in the first place. Riviere was looking better than he’s looked for us so far. Granted that’s not saying much. All in all nowt to write home about from anyone tonight.

I am so sick and tired of hearing this crap from Newcastle managers…this team was set up to draw and was told that a draw is what we can expect as being a great result…look at how many times Obertan, Sissoko, Abeid, Ameobi preferred to defend rather than attack…Ameobi was brilliant in his defensive work tonight, Goufran came on and did nothing attacking wise, in fact he was caught up in the Manu Goal defending when he should have been no where near that position….why take off Riviere who was getting in to great positions why not add Perez to the attack and taken off Obertan, which would have created something eventually, Obertan was doing nothing attacking wise in fact he was failing to even get a simple cross in without hitting his first man. I don’t even know if you can use the word “ironic” that the goal eventually came from the left side because Carver took off both Ryan and Ameobi who were holding their own and replaced them with Goufran and Jonas who failed miserably to control Januzaj and Rooney in the last 15 minutes of the game thus allowing them the space to score the winning goal.

Putting the last 2 games into perspective: Saturday was truly pants and we won. This game not brilliant but was markedly better and we lost.

Both teams set out there stall and you could see the tactics each was deploying. They were better at executing their plan as they are skilful players, we not so good. Man U players always seemed to be able to make space and have time on the ball and ours always looking rushed and unable to dictate play.

Ultimately for all of their possession Man U only looked like another “pass it sideways” team like Swansea and I thought that we were desperately unlucky to lose.

Abeid played better than Saturday’s disgraceful performance though the first 15 mins for him were rocky and of course the last minute fiasco with Krul. If other players had been “Pardewed”, has he been “Carvered”?

Of course tonight may not help Ashley decide to break out the check book. Manu U pay players 250,000 a week, have spent £150m or so recently and although a better class of player don’t look to be that far ahead of us.

Overall not a brilliant advert for premiers league football.

So van gaal says it wasn’t a penalty and that man utd dominated and Carver says we were brilliant for 89 minutes…. Both deluded as each other!
Worst man utd team i can remember in my lifetime. Hes got world class players and no clue how to get the most from them.
Carver…. the only positive is hes probably ruling himself out of the job. Ashley won’t hire him if he thinks that tv money will be at risk, hes not stupid! The carver spin is probably so that wel be so happy the job doesn’t go to Carver we won’t kick off when mclaren, or david oleary or redknapp take the job

I thought we played very well when we didn’t have the ball but couldn’t put 3 passes together when we had it. A draw was a fair result. I don’t want to see Carver get the job but he’s doing okay for me. I think that was a much better showing than Pardew would have served up.

    Fellow bloggers.
We are in no way the team we want. That is not ever going to happen as long as Ashley continues in self profiting.

Today was the first match in the last 4 or 5 ( Everton last game) but what I did see was a team hell bent on running to make up for lack of talent
I still feel Abeid had a great game against permed haired hightower of Man u….

If others thought differently that is opinions. Football is like that.

What is worrying is this was a home game against the worst man u team I have ever seen in 30 years.

We gave them all the ball and waited ……

They were there for the taking if we had two decent attackers….We have one ! Cisse is a 25 goal striker alongside a Beardsley/Joe Cole/ number 10
Don’t let him think about it – he will miss. Half chance finisher.

But we are never going to buy the other player because fat mike knows best.

I think there’s merit in sticking with Carver. The side are putting in despite little to play for. We seem to be set up well and playing with discipline. Theres economic merit in him being given the nod, as well as continuity.

The side is lacking a bit of quality. It was the same under Pardew, its the same now. We aren’t bad, but we just don’t stack up against the better sides, and of course our season has yet again been compromised by injuries beyond a normal degree.

    Just watched the game

I still don’t see why people think Abeid is so good. His passing and vision are not what you’d expect from an elite midfielder.

I also don’t see what the fuss is about Carver. Only Krul, Janmaat and Sissoko could feasibly be starting at a top 5 club from that lineup he has.

Carver can only set the shape..which was fine today. The players were the problem.

Ok, maybe I’ve calmed down now.

First the negatives. We can’t play toe to toe with the top teams so we need 3-4 top players this summer. We are capable of silly mistakes. Abeid could’ve easily booted it anywhere.

The positives. Stone wall pen would’ve changed result… It was OUR throw before their goal. Siss held his own. Krul is tops. Colback is really necessary…
