Tim Krul was easily Newcastle’s best player last night in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at St. James’ Park.
Young scores winner after 89 minutes
But then it was a double mistake right at the end of the game, first of all by Mehdi Abeid who decided to play the ball back to Tim when their were Manchester United players like Wayne Rooney very close by.
Tim wasn’t expecting the pass and he couldn’t control the ball quickly enough, and only managed to kick it straight to Ashley Young – who couldn’t believe his luck and put the ball into the back of the night.
It was horrendous defending but in reality both Tim and Mehdi had good games last night, and especially the Newcastle goalkeeper who has shown himself to be a good goalkeeper again this season.
It was an initial mistake by 22 year-old Abeid, but youngsters make mistakes as they learn their trade and it;s just unfortunate it happened like it did – but the French Algerian is still going to become a very good player at Newcastle.
We didn’t know whether this would affect the voting but it didn’t seem to affect it much, and Tim got 28% of the vote and even after the mistake he was still our best player by some distance.
There were a lot of votes for Jonas Gutierrez (18%), who made an emotional return to the Newcastle first team after 65 minutes, and got a magnificent reception from the sold-out Newcastle crowd.
Moussa Sissoko is in third place after another good display in the middle of the park, and captain Coloccini had another steady game at the back for Newcastle.
It’s just a pity that goal was conceded because it could have been our second successive clean sheet, but it just wasn’t to be.
Next up is a game at Everton a week on Sunday, and The Toffees are really struggling this season, and we must go all out for 3 points in that game.
We’re helped by Everton having a Europa League game the previous Thursday night.
