As expected, Dave King has won the battle today at the Rangers Extraordinary General Meeting in London, to gain control of Rangers FC, and the club has issued a statement to that effect.
Dave King – in control of Rangers FC
Dave King, Paul Murray and John Gilligan have been voted onto the Rangers Board, with the Rangers shareholders voting to remove existing board members Derek Llambias and Barry Leach, who are two of Mike Ashley’s people.
It was really a no contest, with only 15% of the Rangers club’s shareholders voting to keep Llambias and Leach in power, with 85% backing Dave King’s bid to claim control of the iconic Scottish club.
This was the expected outcome today and Dave King has said earlier this week he expected a landslide victory – and he was right on that.
Here is some of the Rangers statement to the London Stock Exchange this afternoon:
“The Company announces that it was notified today that Alexander Easdale holds 5,256,110 Ordinary Shares in the Company, equal to 6.45% of the issued share capital of the Company.”
“Mr Easdale also holds voting rights over, but does not own, a further 11,301,276 Ordinary Shares, representing 13.32% of the Company, meaning that in total he holds voting rights over 16,556,736 Ordinary Shares, representing 20.32% of the issued share capital of the Company.”
Dave King now thinks it will take as much as £30M to put Rangers back to being in contention again for the Scottish Premier League and playing in the Champions League again.
So Mike Ashley will still have opportunities in the future to stay involved with Rangers, because of the loans he can give to the iconic Scottish club, and Dave King says he thinks he can work with the English Billionaire.
But as Rangers’ fans have seen in the past – the loans come with some significant benefits to Mike Ashley.
The group headed by Dave King – Rangers First – had their spokesman Ricki Neill make a long statement after the vote today – here is small portion of that statement:
“Rangers First members voted in favour of Dave King’s General Meeting Resolutions so we are delighted with the confirmation there is a change at boardroom level at last.”
“Our club has been abused by those only interested in themselves for long enough, and the rehabilitation of Rangers begins today with the appointments of Dave King, Paul Murray and John Gilligan.”
“The Rangers supporters have voiced their discontent at the way the club has been run in recent years, but we are confident the new board will treat the club and supporters with the respect they deserve after years of being taken for granted.”
“Rangers First has gained around 13,000 members and acquired a 2.46% shareholding in the club, and I would like to thank all those who have signed up to our initiative.”
“Rangers First was never about just buying shares and voting for change at the General Meeting.” “We are here for the long haul. I firmly believe our fan ownership model can help make a positive difference to the club going forward and we want to work closely with the new board for the good of Rangers Football Club.”
“Supporters have been embarrassed by the lack of corporate governance at the club in recent times, but we have cause to celebrate today as men of impeccable corporate pedigree and genuine Rangers supporters are now in control of the club.”
It’s going to be interesting to see if Mike Ashley stays with his Rangers initiative for the benefit of his Sports Direct business – we think he will.

Just catching up on this evening’s posts and am lost in the “realpolitik” you mention. On the one hand you suggest that the club statement was designed to lessen the inevitable ban but then argue that in fact the ban suits the regime’s future intentions. Surely if the latter were true then wouldn’t they have been better to have not bothered with attempting to mitigate his length of ban?
Anyway shows how unprofessional the club and player are – Man U show once again how to run a club responsibly (ie totally for their own good!) 😉

I know. You, BoyDoneGood, ToonDarnSarf.
Always “lost”
It’s a canny little insult, like.
I sometimes wonder why anyone pays me for it.
I admit I should have inserted the word “However” at the start of my second point.
For the Pharisees.
I was merely pointing out that every cloud has a “silver lining.”
Or “looking for positives” .in your lingo.
Nice to see you back.
You do pop up at odd times!

Still lost. Can’t see the silver lining or the positive only an apparent contradiction. Must be the time of night 🙂

And before you waste half an hour wilfully misrepresenting me, can I point out that several others weren’t at all “lost”.
And that whatever you write, I will profess myself “lost” to make any sense of it.
I’m often “lost” when reading science or philosophy.
I have to say my first instinct isn’t to assume it is because the writers are a bit thick.

Have to disagree. This view is absolutely wrong. Far too cynical from you – and as nihilistic as you’ve ever been. I do believe that Cisse is genuinely ashamed of himself and said the right things for the right reasons. He doesn’t come over as a value free human. The recognition of his being a role model so letting the kids down was a considered comment. He could have tried to blag it like Van Gaal and Jonny have done. He could have pretended he has such moral fibre he couldn’t possibly have done such a thing, or he was really gobbing at the sky. The Manure response is what should have pressed your button, as that utter hypocrisy is contemptible. I’ve noticed that Martinez is another one who always tries to make excuses too for unprofessional conduct.
Having said that – the club doesn’t seem to be very quick witted when it comes to PR and I doubt they’ve got the capacity. The cock up theory usually trumps the conspiracy theory for all but those with extreme paranoid tendencies – which isn’t a usual feature of your posts.

Are you going to claim, as Dulcinera did last week to Thump that you’ve
been posting as Dulcinera …like..forever?
Tell me your old name, and I’ll respond.

I was expressing an opinion in my initial post. Without malice.

I’m not justifying what he’s done and I hate this rubbish of “he’s a professional” first of all he’s a human being, who will react to things like most people or human beings would, he doesn’t have a thought of “wait I’m a professional I must not do this”.
He was irate with Evans and reacted, as I say we all would react in the situation….We would react differently, I wouldn’t spit back but I would react, as would you.

Comment #101Cisse knows he’s messed up and at least had the decency to apologise before getting charged and in hindsight when things settled down, says alot about him as a person. Unlike Evans!!

Comment #102Anybody can screw up in the heat of the moment but its what you do afterwards that matters. Scholes should be ashamed of himself for his Evans whitewash character reference, and Evans just comes over as a chancer. Cisse did admit it, and made no excuses.

Comment #104I have never forgiven Martinez for claiming black was white over McManaman’s thuggery. Reckless tackles studs up and/or over the ball that are leg breakers are much worse than spitting imo, as they can be career ending – but the old elbowing runs it close.

Don’t misunderstand my post, I agree he acted on the spur of the moment and out of anger. As a professional in the public eye he will have to take the flack, But this is not slating him.
He came out and apologise, he understands the circumstance he has put himself and the club in, as a role model he will also understand the anger of some towards him.
That is part of his punishment; as you rightly say you and I would have acted differently, ( more than likely with violence) which could end up with a court appearance that would be our punishment.
I agree with an earlier post, Cisse would have been better off if he knocked Evans teeth out.

Comment #106Cisse, maybe trying to soften his club fine with his hands up statement, thing is we all know there is no room for Hockling at fellow players, he therefore cannot play for the club that pays his wages so I feel the fine should hit him heavy in the pocket I reckon half hus wages for the 7 week period, that could be 175k and i hope it does happen. Also that awful character Johnny Evans knew what he was doing, those Mancs may not even fine the fella who will not hold his hands up, all so very unsavoury.

Comment #107Spitting on another individual is a big no no on my moral compass.
He only admitted it because he was caught red handed, he couldn’t deny it.
He shouldn’t be praised for admitting it or apologising for it.
I agree with some others and hope he gets a huge fine.

No probs mate I get what you mean but it’s certainly unlike Cisse to have done what he did do. I remember when Rijkaard did it to Rudi Voller twice at the world cup!!
Imagine I’d Evans was racist towards Cisse, Evans would get a lesser ban. For all the FA’s rhetoric towards Fifa it’s clear as day the FA are just as much messed up. Costa with 2 blatant stamps got 3 matches!! Cisse for spitting is going to get 6 or 7.
