Newcastle were wise to put out a statement of their own after Papiss Cisse essentially admitted his guilt at spitting at Manchester United defender Jonny Evans on Wednesday night at St. James’ Park.
Lee Charnley – issued excellent statement from Newcastle United
After Papiss apologized – seemingly to everybody affected by the incident including any children watching the altercation, he put himself in a good light by accepting the FA Charge that was made against him yesterday.
On the other hand Jonny Evans has denied he did anything wrong, and has been back up by Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal.
This is the full and excellent statement that Managing Director Lee Charnley issued last night on the Newcastle United web-site:
“Both ourselves and Papiss agree that this kind of behaviour is not acceptable.” “In life, when you do something wrong you have to front up, admit your mistakes and accept the punishment.”
“Papiss was proactive this morning in making a full and heartfelt apology, which he did in advance of any notification from the FA regarding this charge.”
“This was something he felt strongly about and we fully support him in quickly accepting the charge.” “Papiss is known to many of our region’s schools, community groups and junior football teams for his involvement in the work of the Newcastle United Foundation.”
“He has this evening expressed to us his strong desire to engage in additional community activities during the period of his ban.”
“He is particularly keen to use his position as a role model to encourage young and influential fans to engage in sport and learn lessons about the importance of fair play and personal conduct.”
It’s very good and reflects very well on Papiss Cisse as a man that he will do extra community work with the Newcastle United Foundation during his ban.
Given the good work that Papiss will be doing during his ban, that could even offset the extra game he is likely to get because of his previous three game ban for elbowing Seamus Coleman in the Everton game in late December.
Maybe he will now only get a six game ban after all, after being so contrite and forthright, and Cisse has quickly fessed up to what he has done.
And Newcastle United have also shown they have been forthright and honest with the FA – and that will only help Papiss Cisse.

I think your team @37 is right (Abeid RM / Colback LM). I have noticed that Obertan has been playing higher up the field than Sammy taking the formation into 433 but unfortunately Rivi has not made much use of the space on the left flank. Perhaps against Everton Sammy will get forward more to the goal line and keep Coleman from bombing forward to much.

Why bother with either? Raylor is out of contract as well, and there haven’t been any noises offering him a new deal so far. I’d imagine they are not keen given his fitness record. Haidara is likely to be back for the next game so he should be left back. If not him, then Anita or Colback are better options there then either Raylor or Jonas.
I wouldn’t play 442 either. Not necessarily because it is outdated, but more because we don’t have the players for it. Any formation can work as long as the players are right for that system and the team has worked in training in operating within that system in defence, attack and in the transition periods.
I think at the minute we are best suited to a narrow 433/4231. We have very few out and out wide players, Janmaat is our most effective attacking option down the right flank. A midfield of Colback and Abeid with Sissoko wither there with them, or just ahead depending on which of the two. I’d then have Cabella on the right and Sammi/Rivi/Aarons on the left, but tucked in rather than as wingers.

Comment #44Haha, just seen Sissoko says that if Rivi gets 1 he will go on to get 10-15….
That is despite his goals per season in France reading 1,10,8,5,9, 13. Only 36 of those have been top flight league goals.

I think the same Riviere gets 1 he’ll get half a doz this season. I’ll get shot for saying it but there is something there I like – just needs a goal

4231 with Gouffran up front then?!! Otherwise that allusive centre forward that we are missing and never seem to get over the line, quite literally in the case of Chucky.

Comment #51Riviere is living up to the billing he got from French media when stated we had spent far to much money on him. He is so poor it’s unbelievable, has he missed a sitter in every game he’s played in?

Comment #56He accepted the ban because he had no choice Ed, simple as that. If you where Jonny Evans you would contest the ban too. Yeah he probably meant it but they can’t prove it.
I’d be surprised if he gets banned to be honest.

Comment #57Belfast; they don’t have to prove he meant it just prove he did it. He spat at Cisse, case closed. If he worms his way out of this it will be a disgrace.

It appears to be a co-owner of the Strawberry Place land that’s to be sold off.

Comment #60Have to agree with the minority about Riviere, there’s something there, movement is decent, doesnt tend to give the ball away cheaply. He’s def not a no.9.
He’s either a Heskey type who does a lot of work for a strike partner. or he might be best suited to play on the right or left of a front 3. Jury is out on him but he could come good.
For the most part the summer signings have done alight, Colback is decent and has added some goals to his game, Janmaat is good but is sometimes let down by having to bail out Williamson. Perez has been a great find.
De Jong, very unlucky with injuries, there’s no doubt he has quality but it’s getting him onto the pitch and into the right formation.
Cabella has shone glimpses and under the right coach should shine next season.
The only dud was Ferrerya, complete waste of a loan, the money used could have gone towards a much needed cb.

Comment #62With Cisse’s ban for the next 7 games will leave us relying on 0-0 draws to pick up any points until he returns, we haven’t got any other goal scorer in our squad.

Comment #64Wonder if Ferrerya will get a place in the squad, due to lack of options. Or are we more likely to bring in the giant lad in the youth team who is hitting some form lately?

Comment #65Belfast; Cisse would not have the benefit of the Manure publicity machine clicking into overdrive to defend him. The Manure friendly media are falling over themselves to defend Evans. He is guilty, has not shown any remorse quite the opposite and therefore should be hit with a lengthy ban.
I’m not defending Cisse he should get whatever ban is appropriate. I do think a six match ban for spitting at someone is a bit strong, while throwing a punch gets a three match ban.

The difference is, Rangers fans (like Celtic) are made up of people who are in it for more than just the football, its more like a common cause (to hate catholics / protestants etc.) Therefore they are bound by more than just the sport, making it easier for them to get on board with each other.
We have a group of people who are just in it for the game. Some are happy with it, some aren’t and each thinks the other is wrong. It doesn’t help that we have complete egomaniacs running the fan clubs either, as this drives people further away from any positive movement.
We need someone to come forward, with a brilliant idea, and a humble attitude. The closest we got was sackpardew, and they’ve long since vanished.

Comment #67I persume the first thing they’ll do is probably pay Ashley his loans back and try and get out of the merchandising contracts with sports direct. Ashley was basically running the club when he only has a 9% stake in it.
Be interesting to see what else they find.

If our aspiring Head Coach’s any good, then we should expect to see Chucky in the squad and putting the ball away. If not, then either our scouting’s not up to standard or Carver’s not up to the job.
Or Ferreya’s arrival was a favour for an agent?

Comment #69Yes, it’ll be interesting if Ashley’s kicked out of Rangers.
It’s just a pity there wasn’t someone around who would buy him out of NUFC!

Rangers supporters are able to have more influence because the club is not solely owned by MA and have shareholders with larger voting rights. Unless someone is willing to pay MA at least £150M for an equal stake in NUFC then he can continue to do what he wants, with very little regard for supporters.

Comment #72I know Rangers is co owned, but their fans have been voicing there opinions an want the likes of DL off the board, also they’ve been boycotting games, they’re forcing change.
Newcastle fans USED to protest, now Mash does what the fk he likes, he even changed the name of SJP and people accepted it.
Our clubs in a mess, Carver shouldn’t be coach he’s just a cheap option and our over rated squad is a joke, yet people flock to watch dross.
Does Mash know what fans want? There’s no evidence they want change.
