In the first game since Dave King gained control of the club at last Friday’s EGM in London, Rangers could only draw at home with Queen of the South, and they remain 2 points behind Hibs and a massive 22 points behind leaders Hearts.
Haris Vuckic scored after 77 minutes
Haris scored the go ahead goal after 77 minutes but Rangers were unable to hold onto the lead and Smith equalized with four minutes to go in normal time.
Haris played the whole game for Rangers last night and was the best player on the field, but none of the other four Newcastle players who are on loan at Ibrox are available to play, with all of them being injured.
Haris Vuckic was lucky not to get booked (or worse) last night as his frustration got to him and he threw an elbow in the face of Iain Russell, but referee John McKendrick did not appear to see the incident.
And there were boos around the stadium at the end of the game as Rangers fans were not happy with either the performance or the result – and 35,018 were at the game.
Haris signed a five and a half year deal at Newcastle in January of 2011, shortly after Alan Pardew joined the club so his contract runs out a year come June.
Rangers only hope of getting back to the Scottish Premier League for next season is via the play-offs and that’s certainly possible, especially if the Newcastle players on loan can get fit soon.
